Just as Agnes had waited long enough and was about to go to the study to call him back, she reached the door and opened it. Tom appeared outside, seemingly about to come in. At the moment the door opened, their eyes met. Both were dressed in comfortable, loose-fitting home clothes, exuding the fragrance of a recent shower.
It was already very late, and Mrs. Brown had long since gone to rest in the next room.
“Um…” The girl snapped back to reality and softly explained to him, “I thought you would spend the night in the study, so I was going to…” call you back.
Tom didn’t speak; he just looked down at her with his absolute height advantage, his gaze deep and gentle. The indoor lighting was soft as the girl bravely looked up at him.
After a moment, she stepped aside to let him in. Tom took a step inside and said gently, “You sleep on the bed; I’ll take the sofa.”
The girl closed the door and turned to look at his back, blurting out, “You should sleep on the bed tonight too.”
Tom stopped and met her gaze. His eyes were calm, without any hint of surprise or other emotions.
The girl quickly pointed to the small sofa and explained, “I just think you would be uncomfortable sleeping there. You’re so tall; you can’t even stretch your legs.”
Tom stared at her intently, finding her anxious explanation truly adorable. Her thoughts were pure, yet she was afraid he might misunderstand her intentions.
In Tom’s eyes, she was as innocent as a child, without any ulterior motives.
“If I sleep on the bed and you also sleep on the bed, can you accept that?” Tom asked her.
The girl looked away for a moment before meeting his gaze again. “Yes,” she said, then pointed to the bed. “This bed is so wide; it must be two meters wide? We can each have half.”
“Okay,” Tom agreed with a slight smile. “Thank you for your trust.”
The girl’s eyes flickered as she said, “I’ll go brush my teeth.” Her heart was already pounding like a drum.
After leaving the bedroom, Agnes took deep breaths to calm herself down and control her racing heartbeat. Seeing him made her cheeks flush; sharing a bed with him…
