“I’ll be waiting to comfort you when you come back home,” I told him encouragingly.
“That’s probably the only thing that I have to look forward to for today,” Reiner muttered.
He always hated it when King’s business partners came around for meetings or a visit because they were a very demanding bunch. According to him, it sucks out a lot of energy from him to deal with them and he was amazed how King could tolerate their demands for so long. Of course, they contributed a lot of revenue to the company so there wasn’t much that we could do but bear with them.
“Don’t sound so gloom and doom. You’re making me feel bad for you…” I teased him.
“I’ll try to be home early tonight,” Reiner promised.
“Thank you. I’ll wait for you,” I said with a smile.

“I love you too, R…” I said gleefully.
After sending Reiner off to work, I headed back into the mansion to deal with my own work. Since working with the orphanages could be done remotely, I could work from home on some days rather than going into the office. I still went to the office on days when Reiner had a more relaxed schedule so that we could spend more time together.
Working at home had its own set of pros and cons. I could relax at home while hosting efficient meetings with the people that I worked with across multiple orphanages via video conference; however, it could get quite lonely sometimes.
The weather had been depressing for a few days with rain falling on most evenings and all night long. It didn’t help with my mood at all. By the time that it was the end of the workday, I was fidgeting and feeling restless as I waited for Reiner to return home. Although I knew that he would realistically be back early in the evening, I still found myself waiting anxiously for him since late in the afternoon. Because I was trying to be an understanding wife, I didn’t give him a call.
The sound of the front door opening caught my attention, and I was up and out of my seat immediately. I did tell Reiner that I would be there to comfort him when he came back so I had to keep my word. Working hard to clear my work so that I didn’t have to work overtime today was all for this purpose.
“R!” I called his name happily as I ran towards him with outstretched arms.
Reiner was still standing in front of the door when I threw myself into his opened arms and hugged him tightly. Although he had just came home from a rough day at work, I didn’t mind giving him a loving greeting like he had just returned from battling a war.
“Welcome back,” I whispered against his chest.
“It’s good to be back…” Reiner replied like he had been gone from home for many years instead of less than a day.
