“Mr. Knight. You’re here so late. I didn’t think that there was anyone in the building anymore except for us guards,” a man voice said.
A guard came? Seriously?
I couldn’t quite hear Reiner’s reply, but I could hear the guard quite clearly because he was speaking in a loud booming voice.
“I came to check because I thought I heard the sound of someone…like a woman…crying or screaming?” the guard said although he sounded unsure.
Did he hear me just now? Was I that loud?
“No, I didn’t hear anything. I’m working here alone, and I haven’t seen anyone or heard anything,” Reiner replied smoothly.
“Is that so. Maybe it was just my imagination. I’ve already checked the other floors…I’ll keep checking just to be on the safe side. Thank you so much and sorry for disturbing your work,” the man said respectfully.
After a moment, the door closed and then the door that I was pressing my ear against suddenly opened. The sudden disappearance of the door made me lose my balance and the dizziness that I felt from overexerting myself during our sexy operation just now made sure that I landed face first on the ground. The sight of black leather shoes greeted me when I opened my eyes. Glancing up, Reiner was looking down at me with a very suspicious look in his eyes.
Slowly he crouched down and continued staring down at my face with his face resting in his hand. If he could spare the time to stare at me, he could have helped me up instead.
“Instead of just staring at me, why don’ you help me up?” I demanded.
“You look like a sexy mess so I couldn’t stop myself from staring,” Reiner admitted with a non-guilty chuckle.
I reached up a hand and urged him to help me up. He took it with a smile before he half pulled, and half lifted me back to my feet.
“Had fun listening in?” Reiner asked teasingly.
“Don’t make it sound like this is my fault…” I retorted before I pulled a face at him.
This all started because Reiner started seducing me so suddenly like that and we ended up going all the way in the office…and on my desk of all places. Now when I work there, I’m going to just think about…arghhh!
Despite our argument earlier and what he did, I couldn’t find it in me to get mad at him. Honestly, when did I ever get really mad at Reiner. Now that I thought about it, maybe it wasn’t possible for me to really hate him for anything. Reiner carried me to the sofa and that was where we were now sitting side by side. The atmosphere between us suddenly got quite awkward and it seemed like neither of us had anything to say to each other.
Maybe we should just go home? It wasn’t like we were going to get any more work done at this point. Just when I turned to suggest that idea to him, Reiner spoke up first.
“I’m sorry about earlier. You’re right. We should talk it out…” Reiner said softly.
“Oh, no. It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have screamed at you like that and…I know that you mean well…” I replied, shocked at his sudden apology.
I hadn’t expected that he would apologize so directly like that, and it really caught me off guard. It was partly my fault so…
“I know that you don’t like it, but I really can’t have you working at the bar anymore. It’s not an order but…I would appreciate it if you would stop working there. You know, more like a favor for me so that I wouldn’t have to worry about you being out late all the time…” Reiner said calmly as he reached out for my hand and held it in his gently.
“Ok…” I mumbled in reply. He was right, it was probably better this way.
Now, the hardest part was how do I tell everyone that I had to quit and so suddenly? It weighed heavily on my mind and heart. Suddenly, I started feeling very down and depressed about all this.
“I’ll go with you. What about we go to the bar together on Saturday? We can tell your boss and your colleagues there that we got married. I’m sure that they’ll understand why you can’t work your parttime job there anymore,” Reiner suggested before he offered me a small and hopeful smile.
It was clear that he was trying his best to make compromises and it was probably time that I did the same as well. We’re married now so I should respect some of his wishes. Concentrating on my career and my future might not be a bad thing for me either.
“Ok. Let’s do that. Thank you, R…” I replied before smiling at him.
He leaned in and kissed my cheek softly and I found myself smiling and blushing like a young fool.
…
Just like we had agreed, Reiner drove me to the bar on Saturday so that I could talk to everyone before opening time. I was nervous all throughout the drive to the bar as I dreaded the hard conversation ahead. Kat would be mad for sure, and I couldn’t blame her if she would feel that way.
“Don’t worry so much about it. If they’re really your friends then they would surely understand,” Reiner said as if he knew what I was thinking.
“Yeah, I guess…” I replied vaguely as I stared out at the scenery that was passing by.
Unfortunately, it didn’t take us long to arrive at the bar and there was more than enough time before opening time. Reiner did not agree to let me work at the bar tonight either. After much discussion, I had to be satisfied with eating our meal there before heading back.
“Natalia! I didn’t think that you would turn up,” Kat cried out with a mix of happiness and surprise as she came running towards me.
I almost fell backwards when she charged into me to give me a tight hug. Her enthusiasm only added to my anxiety because I was about to disappoint her with my announcement. After Kat took a step back, her eyes travelled from me to Reiner who was standing behind me.
