Chapter 374: Sophie Walsh’s Endless Questions

After speaking, he noticed Kayden Scott remained silent. Unfazed, he shamelessly continued, “Commander, you truly are extraordinary! I thought you only knew traditional medicine, but it turns out you’re well-versed in exorcism! You’re simply…”
“Enough!” Kayden Scott interrupted sternly, cutting off the flattery mid-sentence. “Save your brown-nosing for someone else. Who do you think you are? You think I’m helping you? I’m only doing this to prevent that poor soul from delaying her reincarnation because of her revenge. She’d be doomed to wander this world forever, living a tragic existence.”
He couldn’t be bothered to argue further with Lewis Henderson, that wretched old man.
Truthfully, Kayden Scott’s intervention was purely to spare the departed spirit. She had suffered enough in life; to let her endanger her soul’s eternal cycle by killing a dying man was simply not worth it.
Kayden had already sealed her fate, granting her peace so she could move on and reincarnate. It was as if she’d been handed a golden ticket to bypass any consequences and start anew.
Returning to the matter at hand, Kayden looked at Lewis Henderson and asked, “I’m here for answers, not idle chatter. Where’s Wood Faulkner?”
Lewis hesitated visibly, confirming Kayden’s suspicions-this was all about Sariah Faulkner. Clearly, Kayden was set on her, and there was nothing the Henderson family could do about it. After all, Kayden Scott wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
“She… she went out yesterday to find a doctor for me,” Lewis stammered. “She hasn’t returned yet, but I expect her back by tonight.”
Kayden exchanged a glance with Greedy Wolf, who gave him a subtle nod. Kayden responded flatly, “Fine. When Wood Faulkner returns, notify me.”
Without waiting for a reply, Kayden turned and ordered, “Let’s go, Greedy Wolf.”
Just as he began to walk away, Lewis called out nervously, “Defender… am I… am I off the hook?”
Kayden stopped in his tracks, turned around, and replied with a cryptic smirk, “Why don’t you take a guess?”
Then, flashing a faint smile, he strode out of the Henderson estate, leaving Lewis trembling with paranoia, his mind racing with grim possibilities.
Outside, as they approached the parking lot, Greedy Wolf couldn’t hold back his question any longer. “Defender, why didn’t you just kill that scumbag?”
“Because he’s still useful,” Kayden replied nonchalantly.
“And what about the men watching Wood Faulkner? Weren’t they supposed to report if she left the house?”
“I only told them to ensure her safety,” Greedy Wolf explained.
“That’s enough!” Kayden snapped, clearly unwilling to continue the discussion.
As they reached the car, a familiar voice called out. “Kayden, you’re finally out!”
Kayden turned toward the voice, surprised to see the girl again-Sophie Walsh, still wearing her jeans and backpack, her eyes sparkling with determination.
“You’re still here?” Kayden asked, slightly puzzled by her persistence.
Sophie placed her hands on her hips and confidently walked toward him, nodding. “I was scared that if I left, I might never see you again. So, I waited.”
Greedy Wolf raised an eyebrow and whispered, “Defender, I think this girl likes you.”
Kayden shot him a glare. “Watch your mouth,” he warned. Greedy Wolf shrugged and added in a low voice, “I was just saying. But if you’re planning on staying loyal to the lady, that’s probably wise. Though… if you ever decided on having multiple wives, she’d be a good candidate.”
Kayden could easily pull off the whole “three wives and four concubines” thing if he wanted to-nobody could stop him. The laws in Seclela? Those are for regular folks. For someone like him, they’re nothing but a joke. If they actually applied to him, he’d have to wade through a mountain of red tape just to take someone out. What a hassle that would be, right?
“Greedy Wolf!” Kayden’s voice was sharp. “You’re talking too much.”
“Apologies, Defender,” Greedy Wolf muttered, lowering his head in remorse.
Kayden dismissed him with a wave. “You can leave now.” Greedy Wolf obeyed, slipping into the car and driving off.
As soon as his bodyguard was gone, Sophie’s excitement bubbled over. She stepped closer, grabbed Kayden’s arm, and looked up at him with wide, eager eyes. “So, will you have dinner with me now?”
Her boldness didn’t faze Kayden. He nodded curtly. “You’ve been waiting long enough. It’d be rude to leave you hanging. Where to?”
Sophie’s face lit up with a dazzling smile, her dimples adding to her charm. She wasn’t a stunning beauty like Georgia Adams or Wood Faulkner, but her approachable, girl-next-door appeal was undeniable.
“Thanks for not brushing me off!” Sophie laughed, her eyes crinkling into crescents of pure joy.
Kayden chuckled dryly and shook his head. Not brushing her off? If people saw us, they’d think it was her giving me the time of day, not the other way around.
Still, he couldn’t deny her sincerity. If not for that, he wouldn’t have agreed to this meal in the first place.
“So, are you a teacher?” Sophie asked, her curiosity lighting up her face.
Kayden shook his head. “No.”
Sophie’s eyes widened. “How is that possible? You teach so well-way better than the professors at my school! Seriously, your lessons were amazing.”
Kayden let out a low chuckle. “You’re exaggerating.”
“Not at all! I even heard our business professor call you ‘teacher.’ Is that true?” Sophie’s questions came rapid-fire, her curiosity insatiable.
Kayden sighed deeply. “No, that’s just a rumor.”
“I thought so,” Sophie said, nodding thoughtfully. “But then again, our professor does have a habit of surprising people. Maybe it’s true after all…” She trailed off, contradicting herself without a second thought.
“Can you stop with the questions and just take me to dinner?” Kayden finally snapped, his patience wearing thin.
Sophie’s face fell slightly, but she quickly masked her disappointment. “Fine, fine,” she mumbled. “It’s not like I’m dying to talk to you or anything.”
She pouted playfully, muttering to herself, “I’ve never chased after someone so hard before. This is ridiculous.”
Back at school, countless people tried to cozy up to her, only to be met with her cold shoulder every single time!
But now? She’s the one running after someone else, practically begging for attention, and even taking insults without a word of complaint.
Has the world turned upside down or what?!
