Elena
I open my eyes and blink a couple of times. Looking around in the darkly lit room, I see some things. The nightstand, the body cream, the wardrobe and my lovely dad’s picture stocked on the wall. I didn’t always spend my night in this room because I never liked the idea of moving into Mr. Callum’s house, but well good thing, I can recognize my things. I’m at Mr. Callum’s house, in my personal room.
The comfort of my room engulfs me and I close my eyes to inhale the fresh atmosphere surrounding my room. I expected everything I see to disappear because I’m not sure I should be here.
Wait, am I hallucinating? Am I dead? I’m not certain, I know my whole body hurts but I’m sure that I should be dead by now, because Mr. French tried to kill me.
I try to move a muscle to confirm this is real, that I’m truly alive and in my bedroom. I feel every injury in my body. My throat hurts like hell, my stomach is tight like I got tied down there. Closing my eyes, I run my hands down my face. I feel an unusual inner peace and I don’t know what the heck has happened and why I’m in this room.
I sit up, but something pins into my right arm. Pulling it from under the covers as see it is an IV in my wrist, I follow the hose with my eyes and see the machine hanging by the bed. The drip inside the bag is already halfway done.
A sound has my eyes go straight to the french door and I see a figure standing. I mentioned earlier that the atmosphere feels unusually peaceful, the white curtains gently open by the breeze. I see the figure but it’s a shadow.
“Is anyone there?” I call out but I restrict myself as my throat cracks, the sore in my throat opens like paper. Whoever is pushing the curtain open, as though he is attempting to come inside the room.
“Hey, Elena,” Says Ryan, his lips partly open as he comes in front of the door.
My hands resumed the vibration. “Ryan.” It’s all I can say as I look straight at him.
“How do you feel?” His blue eyes soften.
“What happened to me?” I ask, ignoring his questions.
“You almost got killed by my father.” he gulps roughly. I see him a little nervous. Since I know him, it is the first time seeing him nervous. He put his hands into his pocket to avoid it being obvious.
“And you saved me?” I ask, but his eyes fall on my knee. I have injuries all over my body, and a lot of bruises. I don’t recall what happened after Mr. French took me to the dark building.
“Yes, we did.” He mumbles.
“But…”
“Shh…” He whispers as he comes closer.
“Don’t get yourself worked up over anything. The most important thing is your recovery.” He says and looks over at the machine, pumping the drip into me.
“Why do I need this? I only have bruises on me.” I argue.
“You needed this. I was so scared at the state I found you in. Anyways, the doctor said you will be fine soon.” His blue eyes come back to mine and I sigh heavily.
Even though I am pissed at them all, and especially him, I don’t have the strength to deal with it right now. I guess I just have to recover like he said, to deal with them later.
“Elena.” He calls my name softly and pauses. I look at him and see his eyes extremely soft too, making him look so cute, like the most handsome man I have ever seen.
The way he looks at me creates some silly butterflies in the pit of my stomach, so I throw my eyes off him to the other side of my bed.
“I’m so sorry, Elena. I should have listened to you. I should have tried to understand what you were saying.” His brow pulls together.
“I-”
A knock on the door interrupts him, and whoever it is, I’m grateful to him for saving me from Ryan’s unprepared speech. I’m not ready to listen to his apologies right now. I don’t want to hear him say the word sorry. It’s better for me if he lets me be.
“She’s awake?” The person on the door is Ava. My stomach leaps for joy as I hear her sweet soft voice. We have only been away from each other for a short while but it feels like forever. It feels like decades.
“Ava…” I whisper her name as the harsh tears drop from my eyes. I didn’t know how I started crying all of a sudden. I missed her. I missed my Ava so much.
“Elena.” She whispers my name back, as tears roll down her cheek.
“I have to step out now, please have enough rest.” Ryan goes for the door. I notice Ava nods to what he said before he finally disappears through the door.
I would ask questions later. The reason why she didn’t protest against him coming into my room. I have no idea why, because I know as much as I hate my mates, Ava hates them too. But for the few seconds he was here, I didn’t see any sign of hate in her eyes.
Ava and I have been best friends. She hates what I hate, and she loves what I love, the same goes for me. There must be a reason she didn’t protest. I will ask later, but for now, I need to enjoy her presence.
She runs from the door. She wouldn’t want me to scream in pain. She slowly hugs me carefully so as not to touch the IV.
“It feels like a long time since I set my eyes on you, Elena.” She smiles. Her eyes are igniting as that of smoldering gold. I can tell she’s really happy to see me.
“It feels same here too.” I caress the hair in front of her face.
After she pulls out from the hug, she holds my hand and sit on the bed beside me. “Did I miss anything?” I ask, smiling.
“Not really, but we all have been worried about you.” She smiles, and she gulps, fighting the tears from falling from her eyes.
“What happened to me?” I ask, raising my brow.
“You almost died. You are lucky you have wonderful mates, like the Quads.” She is breathless as she speaks.
“Lucky mates?” I ask ridiculously. She knows what I mean by the tone of my voice.
“Elena, they’ve realized their mistakes. They were ready to give up their lives for your safety.” She says, I feel my heart beat for a few seconds and stop.
“Can we not talk about that please?” I ask politely.
“Sure.” She answers dropping her gaze from me. “Where is my mom?” I mumble. I miss my mom and I was so scared she was going to be hurt by that monster and the so-called man that deceived my mom into getting her pregnant.
“She’s healing too. She doesn’t believe Mr Callum played her.” She says sadly. I go to get up from the bed but she pins me down with her two hands.
“You are not allowed to go anywhere, Elena. The doctor doesn’t permit it.” Here she goes again, my obstinate best friend, who follows the entire rules whenever it comes to my health.
“I can’t stay here all day, Ava. I need to see my mom!” I roll my eyes at her.
She smiles, “You will have a lot of time to see and speak to her once you recover. The good thing is that she is safe, and guess who saved her?” She puzzles me and smiles again.
I forgot my mom was also kidnapped. I don’t know what happened next after the monster stole me away. All I can remember is that I begged him to spare my mom’s life and let her go.
“Well… I don’t know. Who?” I stare at her, she’s smiling gorgeously again.
“The Quads did. Also your mom knows Ryan is your boyfriend.”
“What?” I exclaim as my eyes widen.
“What the heck? How did that happen?” I question, feeling goosebumps on my skin already. Wondering how she was able to figure that out, I mean. I kept her in the dark all this time. She knows nothing about the Quads.
“Well, that’s how you know, that they are serious about you now.” She winks as she supports them.
“Stop your rubbish, Ava!” I throw the pillow next to me, to her face and she begins to laugh her fucking ass out.
It’s not funny at all! I don’t want them. I roll my eyes.
“Elena. You just need to get better and figure things out for yourself.” She rubs my hair like a beautiful kitten. I smile whenever she does that.
“Right, my whole body hurts. I need to recover.” I tell her.
“Well, I will be back. Have some rest.” She says and walks out of my room. I sigh again, feeling that inner peace, I had felt this way for a very long time. Yes, and when my dad was always with me. This was how the air felt and smelled like.
