Elena
I walk to the cafeteria to meet Ava. I see her waving at me and I notice that the cafeteria is crowded today. I kiss her on the cheek first, then I pulled her to a stand. I’m taking a proper look at her in case there is any scratch that she is planning to hide from me.
She’s wearing a black elastic gown that brings out her perfect hourglass shape. The dress is falling on top of her knees. It is turtle-necked so I roll it down with my fingers to check for any abrasions and there is none.
“Elen, I’m fine.” She grumbles but I don’t give a fuck about what she says. I have to make sure she is not hiding it from me in case the guy touched her in a way she didn’t want.
“Shh… I have to confirm that myself, don’t tell me what to do.” I hiss, tossing her around to check some more but she is rolling her eyes and letting bubbles of laughter escape out of her lips.
“Where did the guy take you to?” I ask, raising my brow. I’m curious why he got paid to take her away and didn’t touch her.
She sighs taking her seat around the table, as I wait for her answer. She starts to fidget then I see a flush on her cheek. ” He didn’t want to hurt me. He said he was not going to hurt me even in my vulnerable state.” Her cheek starts to rise. I feel like I know what is happening so I prop my hands on my jaw as I blink my blue eyes like a puppy staring directly into her shining brown eyes.
She could tell what I mean by the expression on my face. She laughs out loud as she slaps her hands softly to close her mouth.
“Okay, I’m gonna spill out.” She blushes. I feel she is having something for the guy. Could that be the reason she sat on his lap that day? I haven’t seen Ava getting so close to a guy before and now she is blushing over a mere question about why he didn’t hurt her.
“He didn’t touch me because he likes me, Elena.” Her cheek is going so red, as she laughs awkwardly.
“Did he tell you that?” I frown a bit, not giving her the chance to know I want to laugh out real hard. I know it is not funny, but Ava being euphoric towards a guy is something to laugh about.
She’s never been interested in any guy, and at some point, I was getting scared that she would remain and die single, without her mate or lover.
“Yes, he did,” she smiles as she holds out my hands, squeezing them softly. I could see from her eyes that she is already in love with him.
“Elena, when he took me away, he told me to calm down that he was not going to hurt me and he needed to say something to me. First, I was scared because I was taken away from you. Then he knelt on the floor pleading that I calm down, because he won’t hurt me even if he was paid to take me away.” She blushes more. Her eyes are sparkling and I have never seen it this way before.
“This sounds so interesting.” I smile, as I’m so eager to listen to every bit of it.
From what she is saying, I can tell already, he is a good guy, and honestly, I wish mine would be like that too. I always wish for that every fucking time.
“So, he made me wear his clothes, then he made something for me to eat. It was cookies and God, Elena, it was the best I have ever tasted.” I love it when she is happy.
As she narrates what happened, I feel my beating heart calming down because she was in the right hand and he truly didn’t hurt her.
“Ava, I can tell you love him already. I love the sparkles in your eyes. It is beautiful.” I smile. This affection in her eyes brings out the gleam from her brown eyes, it is as though there’s sunlight in her eyes and it is making them real beautiful.
“I think I love him.” She bites down her lip, not trying to laugh but when I give her that same look again, she burst out in laughter that she couldn’t control for several seconds.
“You don’t think Ava, you do love him. Do you think he is your mate?” I ask her as I bite on my fingernails, as usual. It is already becoming a bad habit for me.
“We could also choose our mates, Elena. If he wants me as much as I do, then we have no problem. We will be chosen mates and he would mark me.” She explains. I see love in her eyes.
“And do you think he wants you?” I ask to be sure again. I don’t want any guy playing with Ava’s heart. It will be too unbearable for me.
“I think he wants me too. But I don’t want to rush things. Let’s see how things fall into place.” She blushes again, making me smile as I grab her hands again, giving them a soft squeeze.
“You deserve to be happy, baby. I’m happy for you.” I lean towards her and gives her forehead a kiss.
She looks at me and suddenly frowns, “You too. You deserve to be happy, Elena. I wish your mates would play good roles in your life. You deserve their love and not their hatred.” her eyes suddenly start to soften.
I avoid her gaze so I don’t get teary-eyed, but I’m stuck. I can’t take my eyes off hers. I just stare to allow what she said to sink into me, like ice melting down to liquid.
“I don’t crave affection, Ava. You know that.” I hold back the tears. I don’t like them flowing out as though I’m emotional towards them.
I don’t think I should care if they like me or not. I have a goal and that is what is important to me right now. As I said, I don’t need anyone to feel happy.
“Could you take me home now?” I change the topic instead, so we wouldn’t be too emotional than we already are.
“Sure, and I’m happy. You’ve got your mom back. Gosh, I couldn’t believe it when you told me about it.” She chuckles again, and this is what I always want to see and not that pity face she would show me whenever we talk about my mates.
“Me neither. I didn’t believe it, even when she sent so many texts when I didn’t come back home. I started to cry too. I still didn’t believe that I truly have my mom back.”
I have tears in my eyes now, but I’m trying to hold them back in when Ava pulls me into a big hug. As I fall on her shoulder, the tears roll out immediately in joy.
