Callie barely understood, but she was stunned. In the light, she saw his left leg in a cast, realizing he had difficulty moving.
Yet, there was a girl sitting in the passenger seat, confidently playing with her phone as if she hadn’t heard anything.
“What kind do you want?”
“Anything will do.”
Callie was unsure and finally handed him a pack of foreign cigarettes along with the change.
Getting closer, Jamir finally saw the girl clearly. Her eyes were bright and innocent, her cheeks glowing with youthful softness, and she had a faint fragrance.
He paused as he looked at the items she handed over, then smiled after a moment. “Would you like to join us for a late-night snack?”
Seeing her confused expression, Jamir patiently repeated it word by word.
This time, Callie somewhat grasped the meaning. Seeing that the girl still didn’t react, she straightened up and waved her hand. “No need.”
She refused decisively, picked up her textbooks from the bench, turned around, and disappeared into the dark night.
The girl in the passenger seat finally put down her phone and looked at Jamir with a smile. “She doesn’t appreciate your kindness.”
“No taste.”
He said this, but afterward, Callie would often deliberately pass by that convenience store for a long time. Perhaps at the age of budding love, she harbored some romantic thoughts. However, that flamboyant boy never appeared again, like any insignificant stranger, meeting once and never seeing again.
Jamir saw Callie again in late spring, during the peach blossom season. His friend’s club went to the mountains as volunteers and dragged him along.
He was a junior in college. While many were still anxiously listening to those noisy concepts for exams, Jamir had achieved incredible results in his field of study and was even chosen by his mentor as a close disciple.
He had a lively personality. In high school, he frequented nightclubs and wouldn’t go to bed before dawn. In college, with so much freedom, he was even less likely to stay put.
So Jamir’s name was well-known on campus, but few had seen him in person.
When Callie pushed open the bus door and got on, Jamir was lazily leaning at the back, introducing himself. Many were already excited just hearing his name.
The creak of Callie pushing the door open caught Jamir’s attention.
He paused and looked over at her, and everyone else followed his gaze.
The bus wasn’t big, and there weren’t many people. Callie immediately met his deep eyes, her heart tightening.
Jamir’s face was too striking. Staring at someone could be intimidating.
His eyes were very bright, as if he had seen a rare treasure. After a while, he looked away and continued talking as if nothing had happened.
Callie let out a long breath and quietly sat down by a window seat.
Soon after, the bus started moving. People’s attention gradually shifted from Jamir to other topics.
The bus slowly left the city’s hustle and bustle. The further south they went, the more captivating the scenery became. Callie held a heavy DSLR camera, silently recording the view outside the window.
Suddenly, the seat next to her sank heavily with a large force. Callie turned back in surprise and was met with that strikingly enviable face.
