Contracted to the wrong Alpha
Chapter 43
Lex’s Pov
****
I raked my hands on my hair fluffily as I strode downstairs. The sun gave a glow in the house making everywhere bright as I slowly sipped the hot coffee from the mug.
The house was quiet and silent save for Jerry who kept making clacking sounds in the kitchen.
My body tensed up when I realized that Lilia wasn’t there, I could feel it.
Dread washed over me as the first thought that came into my mind was the fact that she fled again and immediately I’m on my phone, calling my beta desperately and feeling pissed at my reaction.
I was still trying not to believe the fact that I jerked myself out thinking about her! It’s absurd but the feeling was out of this world.
If only I hadn’t tasted her, if only I didn’t know what she felt like then I wouldn’t have been battling with these confused emotions swirling all over me.
“Where the fuck are you?” I growled at Raven and he released a frustrated sigh at the other end.
“Lex’s Enterprise.” He blurted out and I wonder if that was supposed to be a joke or a serious statement.
“And what business do you have there this early when you’re supposed to fucking check out the things I sent you last night!” I tried not to yell, the moon is my witness.
“I was dragged out by Luna because she has some bullshit to complete! I don’t know what’s so important but she begged Alpha and you asked me to make sure she’s fine.”
He retorted back as if he was also trying not to lose his cool and I bit my lips in frustration, almost groaning.
She didn’t have to take the job so seriously, I would triple her pay if that’s the issue but she’s way too serious right now.
Releasing a shaky breath, I nodded.
“Fine I’m on my way ”
“You just got back last night, I think you need rest.”
“I’m fine Rave, just get me what I want.”
I scolded and he sighed.
“About that” He paused and clicked his tongue at the other end.
“I discovered that she’s a rogue.”
My heart plummeted in tumbles of beats and disappointment.
“How, She’s Tyson Conor’s daughter.”
I gasped in shock.
A rogue can’t be my Luna, No! The pack would officially go berserk and do something despicable to her for hiding her identity.
“She’s not their real daughter Alpha, from my research last night and the little question I asked around. She was cursed and cast out a rogue but Tyson took her in as his and away from the Pack. That’s why she wasn’t able to get married to Jax Kenzie of White Crisp Pack.
Those two were betrothed since kids”
He said another bitter blast of truth that had my heart clenched in disappointment.
Fuck!
Why be a rogue?!
I can’t explain why I’m even overreacting but I can’t help it.
“A soul shouldn’t hear this Raven.”
“What?” He gasped.
“Are you still going to keep her? You know it’s dangerous! You can’t be with her during the full moon Alpha or you will dest”
“I know!!” I yelled before he completed his statement.
“The full moon is in three months and I’ll be far away from her. Just don’t let a word slip through or Alveria will use the whole Law in her hands to make Lilia miserable ”
I told him and I could swear I heard a chuckle from him.
“You care about her.”
“I don’t!”
“You do Alpha, you’re bending your rules not to ever interfere with any lady’s problem, I heard about the clash you had with Alveria and now you’re trying to protect her despite knowing that she’s a rogue!!”
I swallowed and nodded, folding my hands painfully tight.
He’s right, I can’t lie anymore and if I tell myself that I’ll face my business, it’s the biggest Lie of the century.
Lilia was making me not think and it’s hard.
“I only broke one rule, don’t remind me.”
“Alright, just know that you will hurt yourself by getting attached to a lady who has zero interest in you. See you later Alpha.”
He cut the call and a wave of nausea hit my stomach at the last statement.
Why the hell won’t she have an interest in me? Like why?
Irritation flowed through me and I dropped the coffee on the table and headed to my room to dress up for work.
*****
I rarely come on occasions like this especially when I’m supposed to be at the back so I don’t get surprised at the surprise on their faces.
My impatience grew when I couldn’t find Lilia around. I’ve been here for more than thirty minutes and not even a whim of her scent swirls around me.
I took the bottle of water on the table and stared at my assistant who kept presenting the records of each department for the week but I didn’t even catch a glimpse of what she was saying.
“The only challenge we had was the fact that a large amount of money in circulation has stopped flowing and I’m uncertain if it has to do with any pending documents or proposal that’s yet to be signed.”
Now that caught my interest.
“Why would there be an obstruction in the flow of income? That’s absurd irrespective of any pending proposal.”I asked my Personal assistant.
“I’m sorry sir, but unfortunately; it’s the challenge we are facing. Ever since we heard about the withdrawal from Brooklyn affiliates, this has happened.” She explained and I shook my head.
“Brooklyn is a tiny moth to stop any flow in my company! Pass my laptop.”
She bowed and did that and the door opened, making me nervous at the thought that it was Lilia only to see my worst nightmare.
“Lex baby!” Isabella sang out and I stifled a groan and maintained a cold demeanor but she threw her arms on my neck.
“I miss you so much baby, are you finally back? What about the Pack? Dad says we were supposed to get”
“What are you doing in my company Isabella?” I asked coldly and she shifted uncomfortably and stood up.
“Your contract term is over, get the fuck out!”
“You don’t have to be rude, my love, I thought we could renew it again with a better agreement.”
“You have dozens of things to do with your career, don’t loiter around in my company Isabella, and for a quick reminder, I’m married!”
I spat out and swatted her hands away from me.
“You and I know that she’s just a useless commodity to maintain your position as an Alpha, stop acting as if she’s your mate or real Luna but I can give you anything you want hmm?” She whined with what she thought was a seductive voice and it took her reputation, her dad’s, and the self-control in me not to fling her across the rear transparent glass out of my office.
My assistant was gone and all I could do was glare at her angrily for her to flinch and retreat.
“She’s Luna and that was what fucking matter!”
“But”
The door opened and a loud cackle of disbelief erupted from my throat as Lilia walked in.. fuck! Her scent.
But something made me react differently, my throat could burst out in fury because what in Goddess name is she doing?
A wheel of coffee and a file in one hand, she was shocked to see me too as she almost spilled the hot coffee on her clothes and I growled.
“Be careful!”
“I know right? She’s so clumsy and stupid! She was almost arrested yesterday but I saved her ass and she’s not even able to write a simple query of fifteen pages.
Why on earth do we even have a wolf in our midst?” She turned to Lilia who looked like a runaway model in her cream-coloured pencil skirt and her black chiffon top that had her two buttons undone, revealing a little part of her cleavage.
Why is she so beautiful? Her hair fell on both sides and she bit her lips nervously and bowed. My head, heart, and ears keep ringing at the statement Isabella made.
Xander was growling.
“I’m sorry.” Lilia apologized.
“Have you served the others? Please get out and don’t ever come here if you don’t want to get fired. This is out of bounds”
I Vibrated, my teeth grinded against each layers and my eyes burned.
I opened my mouth to say something but Lilia’s expression stunned me.
Expressing with her hands and mouthing at me to keep quiet or she will kill me.
Her hands were clasped together and she stare at Isabella who was now taking a sip, I took a step to fling the wheel of coffee away and to growl into her ears that she wasn’t a fucking slave but Lilia didn’t want that.
“Don’t say anything, Lex, just don’t do a thing?”
Her voice was like a warm blanket wrapped around my body through the mind and sparks flowed through me.
“What the fuck flower!”
“I’ll explain everything but right now let me do my thing please…”
“I won’t accept the fact t-”
“You don’t accept anything, you’ve never done anything I say or requested and I know you will prove that too but we’re not in the pack right now for any shitty Alpha role, let me be Lex. I’ll explain to you later.” She explained and turned to leave, her words causing a deep piercing pain but I pushed it back.
“Fine, don’t forget to come back to me Flower.”
I told her and watched her leave as if a part of what I was used to was leaving.
Whatever she has to say better be a good reason or something would happen.
