The price of the truth

Harrison stood at the door, his hand resting on the handle. I could feel the tension in the air, the uncertainty of what was about to happen weighing heavily on him.
He turned toward me, his face hard with determination. “I’m going to the police station to see Luca. He’s the only one who might have some answers about Blackwood.”
I nodded, trying to hide the worry that was creeping into my chest. I knew this wasn’t going to be easy, and I couldn’t help but feel nervous. But Harrison had to do this. We needed answers.
“Be careful, okay?” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “Please don’t do anything rash.”
Harrison gave me a small smile, his eyes softening for a moment. “I’ll be fine, Emma. Don’t worry. I just have to make sure Luca talks. If he knows something about Blackwood, I need to hear it.”
With that, he turned and walked out the door, his steps steady and sure. I stood by the window, watching him leave, my mind racing with thoughts of what was to come. Would Luca really have the answers we needed? And what would happen if he did?

The police station was quiet when Harrison arrived. The air was thick with tension as he walked up to the front desk, his expression serious. The officer behind the counter looked up, his eyes narrowing as Harrison approached.
“I’m here to see my brother, Luca,” Harrison said, his voice firm.
The officer hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “He’s in the back, in a holding cell. You can go speak with him, but make it quick.”
Harrison nodded and made his way down the hallway, his footsteps echoing in the empty space. The cell where Luca was held came into view, and Harrison stopped in front of it. Luca was sitting on the bench inside, his arms crossed, his face set in a scowl.
“Luca,” Harrison said, his voice low. “We need to talk.”
Luca looked up, his dark eyes meeting Harrison’s. “What do you want, Harrison?” he asked, his tone sharp.
“I want to know about Mr. Blackwood,” Harrison said, his eyes locking onto his brother’s. “You know something. I know you do.”
Luca’s gaze hardened, but he didn’t speak right away. Instead, he stood up slowly and walked to the bars of the cell. He leaned against them, his arms still crossed, as if weighing his options.
“Why should I tell you anything?” Luca said finally. “You’ve always been the golden child, Harrison. The one who always gets what he wants. What’s in it for me?”
Harrison didn’t flinch. He had dealt with Luca’s attitude for years, and he knew how to push his buttons when needed. “I’m not asking for myself. I’m asking for Rachel. And for Emma. For Ethan. Blackwood is still out there. He’s dangerous.”
Luca’s expression shifted for a moment, something like hesitation flashing across his face. But it was gone just as quickly. “You think I don’t know that? You think I don’t care about Rachel and Emma?”i might have hurt Emma and Rachel in different ways but now im a repented petson Harrison.
Harrison stepped closer, lowering his voice. “Then help me. You know something about Blackwood. If you tell me what you know, I’ll get you out of here. I’ll make sure you’re not stuck in this cell any longer.”
Luca didn’t say anything for a long moment. He stared at Harrison, studying him with a mixture of skepticism and curiosity. Finally, he spoke again, his voice quiet but steady.
“You’re asking a lot of me, Harrison,” Luca said. “But if you really want my help, there’s something you need to do for me first.”
Harrison frowned. “What’s that?”
Luca smirked, his eyes glinting with a hint of something darker. “Get me out of here. I’ll tell you everything you need to know, but I’m not going to do it from this cell. You get me out, and I’ll talk. Deal?”
Harrison hesitated. He knew the price Luca was asking wasn’t small. It wasn’t just a matter of pulling some strings to get him released. There would be consequences. But Harrison didn’t have time to play games. They needed answers, and they needed them fast.
“Fine,” Harrison said, his voice sharp. “I’ll get you out. But you’d better tell me everything. I don’t have time for half-truths.”
Luca gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. “I’ll tell you everything. But you better keep your end of the bargain.”
With that, Harrison turned to leave, his mind already working on how to get Luca out of the police station. He didn’t have much time to waste.
****************************
It wasn’t long before Harrison was back at the station, speaking with the right people, using every bit of leverage he had to get Luca out. He couldn’t afford to waste time. The longer Blackwood was on the loose, the more danger Rachel and the others were in.
By the time Harrison was finally walking out of the station, Luca was free, his hands unshackled, his expression unreadable. The two brothers walked together, the weight of the situation hanging between them.
“So, you’re really going to tell me everything?” Harrison asked as they walked to the car.
Luca smirked. “You’ll get what you asked for. But first, we need to find somewhere quiet. Somewhere we can talk without anyone listening in.”
Harrison didn’t argue. He drove them to a small, secluded cabin just outside the city. It wasn’t much, but it would be enough for what they needed to do. Once they were inside, Harrison locked the door behind them and turned to Luca.
“Now, tell me what you know about Blackwood,” Harrison said, his voice firm.
Luca sighed, running a hand through his hair as he leaned back in his chair. “I’ll tell you everything, but you won’t like it, Harrison. Blackwood… he’s more dangerous than you think. He’s not just some random criminal. He has connections. People everywhere.”
Harrison’s heart sank. “What do you mean?”
Luca’s eyes darkened. “He’s tied to some serious people in this city. Powerful people. People who will do anything to protect him. I don’t know all the details, but I know enough. Blackwood’s got a network, and it’s bigger than we realized.”
The weight of Luca’s words hit Harrison hard. They were in deeper than he’d thought. This wasn’t just a matter of stopping one man-it was about taking down an entire organization.
“I’ll need your help,” Harrison said, his voice low. “We can’t do this alone. You know these people. You have to help me get to Blackwood.”
Luca met his gaze, his eyes cold. “I’ll help you. But remember, Harrison-this isn’t just about getting him off the streets. It’s about surviving. Blackwood won’t go down easy. And if you’re not careful, you might find yourself in his crosshairs.”
Harrison nodded. He knew the stakes. But they had no choice. They had to stop Mr. Blackwood, no matter what it took.
The conversation continued for hours, with Luca revealing what he knew about Blackwood’s connections, his dealings, and his past. The more they talked, the clearer it became: Blackwood wasn’t just a threat to Rachel and Emma. He was a threat to everyone they cared about.
