The drive to the police station felt longer than it should have. My mind was racing, and my heart was pounding. I kept thinking of Ethan-my son-and where he could be. The thought of him being out there, alone and scared, made it harder to breathe.
When we finally arrived at the police station, I followed Harrison and Rachel inside. I could feel my hands trembling as I gripped my purse. The weight of the situation was sinking in. We had come this far, but we still didn’t have Ethan. We needed answers, and the only way to get them now was from Adrianne.
As we entered the station, I saw a policewoman standing by the door. She was tall, stern, and held a clipboard in her hands. I recognized her immediately Detective Lancey, the one who had been handling Ethan’s case from the start.
“Detective Lancey,” Harrison said, his tone clipped and impatient. “Where is Adrianne?”
“She’s in the interrogation room, waiting to speak with you,” Detective Lancey replied, her voice calm but serious. “She’s confessed.”
My heart raced as we followed her down the hallway. I could feel every step echo in my chest. When we reached the room, Detective Lancey opened the door and gestured for us to enter.
Adrianne was sitting at a table, her hands folded in front of her. She looked defeated, her face pale, her eyes hollow. It was clear she had no fight left in her.
“Adrianne,” Harrison said coldly as he stepped forward. “You’re going to tell us everything now.”
Adrianne looked up at him, her eyes filled with fear and guilt. She opened her mouth to speak, but it was Detective Lancey who broke the silence.
“I’ll do the talking,” Detective Lancey said, her voice firm. “Adrianne has already confessed, and we have it all on record. She’s agreed to tell you everything about what happened to Ethan.”
Adrianne’s eyes darted nervously between us, and she finally nodded. “It’s true,” she whispered. “I took him… when I pushed Emma down the stairs, but Ethan is with Luca.”
“Luca?” I asked, my voice trembling with anger and disbelief. “Harrison’s brother?”
Adrianne nodded. “Yes. He… he promised me things. He said that if I helped him, he would make sure I got a share of the Harrison’s fortune. He told me he could give me everything I ever wanted. I didn’t know what else to do. I was scared and greedy.”
I turned to Harrison, the shock evident on my face. “Luca? Your brother?”
Harrison’s face was dark with anger. “What did he do with Ethan?” he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.
Adrianne took a shaky breath. “He made a deal with me. He told me that if I gave him Ethan, he would make sure I was part of the Harrison inheritance once he became the CEO. He promised me my own share of the business, everything… if I just handed over Ethan.”
“You sold him to luca?” Rachel asked, her voice filled with disgust.
“I didn’t see another choice,” Adrianne whispered, her eyes brimming with tears. “I didn’t know what to do. Luca said if I didn’t give him Ethan, he would ruin me. So, I agreed.”
Detective Lancey stepped forward, her tone serious. “And where did Luca take Ethan?”
Adrianne hesitated, her eyes dropping to the table. “He took him to a place outside the city. A warehouse. I don’t know exactly where, but he said the doctor would take care of Ethan. Luca said the doctor would know what to do with him, and that everything would be fine once he became the CEO.”
“Where is this warehouse?” Harrison demanded.
“I don’t know the exact address,” Adrianne admitted. “But Luca said it was a place where no one would find them. A place where they could be safe.”
Harrison’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. “We’ll find it. We’ll find Ethan.”
Detective Lancey gave Harrison a serious look. “We’ve already sent out a team to locate the warehouse. We’ll get Ethan back. But I need you to understand something, Harrison. Adrianne isn’t the only one at fault here. Luca has been behind all of this, and if what she’s saying is true, he’s been playing both sides.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. “So, it’s not just Adrianne? Luca was involved all along?”
“Yes,” Adrianne said, her voice trembling. “Luca made a deal with me. He said that once he became CEO, he’d make sure I was taken care of, and he was the one who made me shoot you Harrison. He promised me wealth and power. I was… I was a fool. I didn’t think it through.”
Detective Lancey stepped forward, her expression hard. “And there’s more. The reason Luca wanted Ethan gone is that Harrison having an heir, was a threat to him. If Harrison had an heir, it would ruin Luca’s chances of getting everything. He saw Ethan as a problem, someone who would block him from taking control of the family fortune.”
Adrianne’s face twisted with guilt. “Yes… yes, that’s what he said. He told me that having an heir would make him lose everything, and I… I didn’t know what to do. So, I agreed.”
“Luca wanted to ensure that once he became CEO, everything would be his. He thought killing Ethan’s chance of being Harrison’s successor would secure his future,” Rachel added, her voice cold.
Harrison’s eyes narrowed. “And now you’ve ruined everything, haven’t you?”
Adrianne nodded frantically. “I know… I know! I didn’t want this. I just wanted to protect myself, and Luca promised me everything! I thought he was the only one who could help me!”
“Where is this warehouse?” Harrison demanded again.
“I don’t know the exact address,” Adrianne whispered. “Luca said it was a hidden place, far from the city. I swear, I don’t know more.”
Detective Lancey gave Harrison a serious look. “We’ll handle it from here. We’ll send teams out to search the area. We’ll find Ethan.”
Adrianne’s voice shook as she called out, “Please… I beg you. Don’t hurt my son, Luis. He doesn’t know anything about this. He’s just a boy. Please don’t hurt him!”
Harrison turned to look at Adrianne, his expression hard. “We’ll deal with your son later. Right now, you’ve given us what we need. We’ll find Ethan, and Luca will pay for everything.”
Adrianne’s hands trembled as she reached out. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone. Please… don’t let him suffer.”
“We’ll make sure your son is safe,” Harrison said coldly. “But right now, we’re getting Ethan back.”
With that, we turned and left the room, leaving Adrianne behind to deal with the consequences of her actions.
As we left the interrogation room, my thoughts were swirling. Harrison’s brother, Luca, had been behind all of this all along. The betrayal ran deeper than I had imagined. I looked at Harrison, whose face was hard, focused.
“We’ll find Ethan,” he said, his voice steady. “We’ll bring him back.”
I nodded, my heart still heavy with fear. Ethan had been taken from us, but now we knew who was responsible. We had a lead, and we were going to follow it.
It wasn’t over. Not yet.
