Chapter 2435: It’s Missing, Not Remembering

In his spare time, Tom Fritz would think about this question.
“Tom.” In the apartment, Jeffery knocked on the open study door and brought in a cup of warm milk. He tried to ask, “Do you have something on your mind lately?” It was obvious it wasn’t work-related.
Tom looked up at him and then slightly smiled. “No.” But that smile never reached his eyes.
Since he denied it, it meant he didn’t want to talk about it. Jeffery didn’t press further. “Then get some rest early. There’s a new project in the lab tomorrow, and it’s going to be busy again.”
“Okay.”
Jeffery turned and left, gently closing the door behind him, genuinely worried about Tom. This kind of work wasn’t for everyone-high pressure and long hours.
Tom Fritz held the milk cup, got up, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. With one hand in his pocket, he took a sip of milk and looked at the clouds rolling by. Something deep settled in his eyes.
A girl’s figure flashed through his mind… She took care of his kitten; she was meticulous, patient, and kind. Her bright eyes and white teeth, her every smile and frown… She agreed to a fake engagement with him, accepted all his requests, and cooperated well.
That night in the study, she helped him apply medicine; she leaned into his arms and hugged him… Then they shared an inexplicable yet somewhat uncontrollable kiss…
Thinking about that kiss always left Tom Fritz a bit dazed. She slept in his bed… She used his bathroom… She wore his shirt.
Remembering these details, those moments with her made him miss her a little. Yes, miss her, not just remember her.
Tom Fritz knew very well that the girl he missed at this moment was Bubu from real life, not the one who emailed him…
Tom was a steady man. He knew that being much older than her meant he couldn’t give her anything substantial, so he didn’t dare hope for too much. Who said liking someone meant you had to possess them?
The day he went to the airport to send her home, a boy around her age appeared behind her with a bouquet of roses, covering her eyes to surprise her. That scene often lingered in his mind.
This incident had always been a thorn in Tom’s heart. It made him think Agnes had decided to start a new life and began dating someone else. He had already delayed her for seven years and couldn’t afford to delay her any longer.
So the busy Tom Fritz could only keep his admiration and affection for her buried deep inside.
Arkpool City, Marsh Group.
Agnes walked out of the company gate with her bag over her shoulder these past few days with a calm heart but saw Ansel standing outside.
Their eyes met, and Agnes stopped walking. She knew he was there to see her. Though he remained silent and looked calm without saying anything upon seeing her.
Agnes snapped out of it and took steps towards him. “What’s up?” she asked lightly.
Ansel had also thought a lot these past few days and had come to realize some things couldn’t be forced, especially feelings.
He asked her, “Can we have a meal together? I have something to tell you.”
“What is it?” Agnes refused. “If you have something to say, say it here. I’ll listen.”
“Then… how about a cup of coffee? We need to sit down to talk.” He didn’t insist either; his whole demeanor seemed much more settled. “Don’t worry; I won’t pester you.”
Seeing his state today made Agnes guess he had figured something out. So she agreed; there was a cafe nearby anyway.
