Clay’s face was still troubled, as if a heavy stone weighed on his chest.
“Is the Gentry family really going to be bullied by the EMPEROR this time? If we suffer a significant loss, even with the gold coins Mr. Maskelyne and his wife gave us, it will take a long time to recover.”
“Forget it, we don’t have a better option now. We can only follow Miss Andrews’ arrangements and wait for that big shot to come.” Tony comforted his brothers and then lowered his head and returned to his residence.
He was also upset, but what could he do?
In terms of fighting ability, the Gentry family was far inferior to the EMPEROR.
In a place like the red-light district, it’s survival of the fittest.
If the Gentry family couldn’t survive this ordeal, he could only leave it to fate.
The entire Gentry family was immersed in sorrow, but one person was eager to go to the guest house where Franklin and Sylvia were temporarily staying.
“Adeline, do you think this dress looks good on me?” Fatima compared a pink dress against herself. Before Adeline could answer, she continued, “Oh, it’s so cold. Is pink inappropriate? Should I change to a more subdued color? Gray?”
Adeline frowned and coughed before looking up at her. “Fatima, why are you changing clothes so late at night? It’s like you’re going on a date.”
Fatima blushed, her eyes glistening with shyness. “I just want to go for a walk. Is that not allowed?”
She had asked the servants during the day and found out that Mr. Howlett and Sylvia would go to the gym after dinner. She wanted to try her luck there.
The gym… she should dress casually for that!
Setting up an image as a fitness goddess would be perfect.
Thinking of this, she immediately dropped the dress and rummaged through her wardrobe for sportswear.
Seeing her dressed in white sportswear and sneakers, Adeline frowned in confusion. “Fatima, are you crazy? Are you going for a night run?”
“I ate too much at dinner. I want to digest it.” Fatima said as she was about to run out. Adeline stopped her. “Something’s off. You’re hiding something from me.”
“Oh, no!” Fatima’s expression stiffened. “How about… you come with me?”
“Hmph! I don’t want to exercise. My weak body can’t handle it.” Adeline coughed heavily several times. “You go by yourself.”
Fatima looked at her coughing and hesitated for a while before saying, “Our family is known for medicine. The Blood Medical Sect’s medicine is priceless but has never cured you. Adeline, I heard Miss Andrews is also a miracle doctor. Why don’t you let her take a look at you?”
Adeline smiled bitterly. “Forget it.”
She had long given up hope of being cured.
“As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, we should try. What if it really works?” Fatima insisted and put a down jacket on her. “Let’s go find her.”
She originally thought it would be awkward to bump into them alone at the gym, but if they were seeking medical help for Adeline, it would be perfectly reasonable!
She thought happily that if Adeline could be cured, she would have more opportunities to interact with her crush. It was a win-win situation.
Adeline had no choice but to follow Fatima out of the room.
The winter courtyard was cold and quiet, with a crescent moon hanging in the sky, exuding a faint chill.
The Gentry family had an entire building full of fitness equipment and various sports activities.
Usually, the Gentry family members would come here to exercise in their spare time.
After dinner, with nothing else to do, Sylvia and Franklin brought Jasper and others to the gym to work out.
They were playing tennis enthusiastically when two beautiful girls appeared on the court.
Vaild blinked in confusion. “Are they twins too?”
Mark shook his racket and wiped the sweat from his forehead. “Who?”
Vaild pointed at the girls who had just walked in. “Look, those sisters are also twins.”
Mark was stunned when he saw them. “They really are.”
One girl wore white sportswear, slender and tall, while the other girl wore a thick down jacket and looked unwell.
Fatima immediately noticed Jasper sitting by the court drinking water. His tall and upright figure made her heart race.
After a while, she awkwardly and shyly walked over to Sylvia and Franklin. “Miss Andrews, I’m Fatima, and this is my twin sister Adeline. We are Casey’s cousins.”
Sylvia stopped playing tennis and looked at her calmly. “What’s wrong? Do you need something?”
Fatima’s heart skipped a beat as she looked at Sylvia in her tennis outfit.
Heavens!
How could there be such a beautiful woman?
At the luncheon, Sylvia sat at the main table, and Fatima thought she was beautiful from afar. But up close, Sylvia’s beauty was breathtaking.
Her porcelain skin was flawless, her features were perfect, especially her eyes that seemed to see through everything.
Fatima felt immense pressure and nervously swallowed before speaking in a trembling voice. “Adeline… Adeline is not well. Can you… can you take a look at her?”
Damn it, she couldn’t even speak properly.
Would Miss Andrews think she was stuttering? Fatima couldn’t help but wail internally.
Sylvia tossed her racket to Jasper. “Jasper, you play.”
Jasper caught the racket and continued playing with Franklin.
Fatima couldn’t help but glance at him. So handsome!
The way he caught the racket was so cool!
Sylvia walked with the sisters to the side of the court. She glanced at Fatima and then at Adeline. “The Gentry family is known for medicine. If she’s still weak, it’s probably an illness from birth that even your family’s best medicine can’t cure.”
She sensed an array’s presence on Adeline.
With Reginald overseeing the Gentry family, no one should dare act recklessly.
So this array was intriguing.
Adeline had no hope initially but now looked at Sylvia with some admiration after hearing her diagnosis.
“You’re right; it’s an illness from birth. So I’ve always been weak and rely on daily medicine just to stay alive.”
Sylvia began examining the array on Adeline’s body and was stunned after a while.
It was a life-stealing array.
And the person stealing Adeline’s life was none other than her twin sister Fatima?
When they first arrived, Sylvia felt something was off.
Fatima’s energy was strong while Adeline’s was abnormally weak.
One sister was lively while the other was frail.
This stark contrast would make anyone feel sympathetic.
Adeline’s condition couldn’t be cured by medicine alone; the array had to be removed.
But she couldn’t tell them this directly.
Clearly, both sisters were unaware of the truth.
Sylvia took Adeline’s pulse. “It’s hard to treat. Your family has already used the best medicine for you.”
Adeline withdrew her hand with a bitter smile and told Fatima disappointedly, “I told you it’s incurable.”
Fatima felt sad. “It seems Miss Andrews can’t help either.”
At that moment, Jasper and Franklin finished playing tennis and sat down to rest. Jasper handed Franklin a bottle of water. “Young master, drink some water.”
Hearing his voice, Fatima couldn’t help but look at him and mustered up the courage to approach him. “Mr. Howlett… can we… can we add each other on Facebook? I saw you play tennis well; can you teach me tomorrow?”
Jasper didn’t expect anyone in the Gentry family to approach him and felt awkward. “Sorry, I don’t have Facebook.”
He touched his ring finger unconsciously and said to Franklin, “Young master, I’ll call my wife now to check if my son is asleep.”
Wife? Son?
Fatima was shocked and nearly fainted.
He was married with a child?
Watching Jasper walk away quickly, Sylvia couldn’t help but laugh. “Fatima, do you like Jasper?”
Fatima didn’t dare admit it. “No, no. I just thought he played well.”
But her guilty and devastated expression betrayed her true feelings.
Sylvia smiled and pointed at the twin brothers nearby. “Mr. Howlett is married, but those two are single. Would you like to take them home?”
Vaild hurried over when he heard his name called and introduced himself to Fatima. “Hello Fatima, I’m Vaild, and this is my brother Mark.”
“I remember you; you bumped into my nose yesterday. Your names are funny.”
Vaild touched his nose. “Easy to remember.”
Mark silently clicked his tongue twice; it was clear his brother fancied Fatima!
So he went over to greet Adeline.
“Hello, I’m Mark.”
Adeline looked up at Mark with her pale face and then at Vaild. The twin brothers looked energetic and handsome.
