He stood at the bedside, hands on his hips, looking at her angrily. He looked at her disheveled state, her sadness, and felt a deep sense of frustration. Ansel was like an enraged lion.
The girl, however, was like a puppet drained of thoughts, allowing him to scold and vent his anger. Besides shedding tears, she remained calm and unresponsive.
Seeing the tears welling up in her eyes and then falling like large drops on her face, he felt a pang of sorrow and regretted his harsh words. The room fell into a long, suffocating silence.
Agnes didn’t want to argue; she felt it was pointless.
“He ignores you. Do you know how much he dislikes you?!” Ansel’s words pierced her heart, trying to wake her up completely.
Pain, excruciating pain… Agnes felt as if her heart was being torn apart, her whole body trembling with agony.
Ansel felt sad too, thinking he was even more pitiful. He had accompanied her through her growth for so many years, always liking her, yet she fell in love with a shadow?!
Was he, Ansel, not even worth a shadow?!
“Who is Mr. Kitten?” Ansel asked in a low voice filled with hostility. “You send him so many emails, and he keeps ignoring you. What do you want?! Spend your whole life on him? Seventeen years? Twenty-seven years? If you end up with him, I can let go. But Agnes, you’re driving me crazy!! Where is he hiding?!”
Ansel’s emotions were intense; he really wanted to wake her up with scolding!
Hearing his words and perhaps influenced by last night’s emotions, Agnes shed tears but did not refute him.
Seeing the girl cry made Ansel realize he might have gone too far. Tears welled up in his eyes too; he was also in great pain.
How did it come to this?!
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Ansel held the girl’s trembling shoulders and advised sorrowfully, “Agnes, you need to save yourself. You must get out of this whirlpool; otherwise, you’ll be ruined.”
Though often immature, as a high achiever, his thoughts were clear at this moment.
After scolding and blaming her, he began to comfort her and finally held her in his arms. “Agnes, don’t cry… Everything will get better. I’ll always be with you.” Then he too started crying.
“I don’t need your company,” Agnes said tearfully. “Even if I’m not with him, I won’t be with you. Please don’t pester me; otherwise, I’ll break down even more. I don’t want to deal with our issues; I’m very tired. Also, please don’t interfere in my matters with Mr. Kitten.”
“But I don’t want to see you so sad… You love a shadow!”
“I choose to love this shadow! You can’t bring me happiness either,” Agnes said clearly. “If you stop bothering me, it would be a good deed. I need time; let me be quiet!”
“Agnes, you’re so heartless!”
“Then consider me heartless,” Agnes replied firmly. “I’m really tired. I don’t want to talk about feelings anymore. Your matters have nothing to do with me; mine have nothing to do with you. This is the last time I’ll say this!”
Sensing her attitude of keeping him at arm’s length, Ansel finally understood.
Even if she had no one else she liked, she would never accept him.
Especially when there was such a huge obstacle in her heart!
Seven years-what did that mean? She hadn’t even seen the person! She didn’t even know who he was!
This love was truly inexplicable!
Ansel was also quite angry. Agnes was like a hedgehog covered in spikes. So without having breakfast, Ansel left after taking the gold jewelry she gave him. If he continued pestering her, she wouldn’t speak to him for the rest of his life.
After Ansel left, Agnes sat alone on the bed hugging her knees and cried for a long time… She didn’t know why she had ended up living like this.
Although Ansel’s words were harsh and piercingly true.
This kind of love would cost her half her life.
