Chapter 88 – How dare you?!

Book:The Rejected Ex-Wife Published:2024-12-11

Mrs Evelyn was carried off the floor by Rafael while Clarence was dragged out of the floor by Thomas.
“Let me go! This is an assault! Let me go!” She cried as the security forcefully dragged her. “You will regret this! I promise! You would regret this!”
Her voice soon faded and June was seated by her mother who was laid on the bed by Rafael. “Are you okay? Do I need to call the doctor? Does anywhere hurt?” June was concerned for her mother who did not deserve Clarence’s attack.
She was so close to dashing out of the house and giving that wench a proper beating. However, much more than anything, she was concerned about her mother’s well-being. She hadn’t uttered a word since her fall and was beginning to get concerned.
Rafael took out his phone to call Carson when Evelyn finally spoke, shocking the entire room. “I’m so sorry, June. I lost it, I lost the evidence.”
June was shocked by her mother’s words. “W-what? What did you just say?”
“The recording! I went to get the recording of her confession and I lost it! The accident-” Mrs Evelyn held her head and a stroke of pain doused her brain.
“Mother! Are you okay? What is it?!” June turned to Rafael in panic. “Call Carson! Something is wrong with her! Call him quickly!”
Rafael’s phone dinged with a text from Carson saying he would be there in a few minutes. Carson who was on his bed, enjoying his day off, jolted up the bed at the sudden text from Rafael.
He had tried to get him to stay in the hospital for the night but he had blatantly refused. Hence, his friend was causing him a lot of heartache and worry.
It took some time for them to realise that Evelyn had recovered some parts of her memory. When Carson arrived, he explained the situation after testing and examining her.
“She is fine. I think she has recovered some part of her memory. It’s a step in the right direction. Now we know it isn’t permanent. Whatever happened needs to continue happening. I believe she will get back her memory.”
June found it hard to believe part of her mother’s memory was restored as a result of getting hit in the face. She watched her mother like an odd specimen as she drank water from her cup, wincing occasionally.
Rafael and Carson stepped out of the room, leaving Luis, June and Evelyn in the room. “You are such a worrier. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you took on that trait from my husband.” Evelyn smiled when June’s brows shot up.
“I know Anthonio is dead.” She said. June felt her body relax, only to tense up right back. Everything happened so quickly with her mother’s accident and she feared her mother was yet to grieve the loss of her stepfather.
“Granny, are you okay now?” Luis asked with an innocent face.
One would think he couldn’t hurt a fly with how docile he appeared. Even Evelyn was shocked at the change depicted by the young lad. She could remember how he treated her the first time she came.
It was a sharp contrast from the caring and worrying look of the young boy. Not to mention the fact she had pockets of memory where he sat in the room with her, watching her paint while piecing puzzles.
He had been the perfect partner and in that moment, she was filled with immense gratitude that her daughter got to have these people in her corner. She would die a happy mother knowing June was in safe hands.
“Why are you crying?” June asked when a rogue tear left her mother’s eye, “Are you hurt? I can call Carson right now. We can go to the hospital-”
Evelyn shut her up with a tight hug. June swallowed and her heart suddenly felt heavy. With the tightening of her mother’s arm around her, she felt her world combust and broke into a weeping mess.
Luis stepped out of the room, deciding his mother needed some time with her mother. June cried in her mother’s arms while Evelyn wept in her heart. So much evil had befallen this child of hers.
It was a miracle she was able to handle it all. June cried until she couldn’t and Evelyn held her through it all, muttering soothing words until she was okay.
“I thought you’d never come back,” June said once they gathered for dinner. “The thought of you remaining without your memories has got to be the worst thing I’ve ever been through.”
“It felt like I just got you and then life played a cruel one on me.” She explained with a small smile. “I’m glad you are alright.” She meant it from the depths of her heart.
Rafael watched June with unease in his heart. He couldn’t tell her. June had battled with the worst things possible for the past few months. All he wanted was her happiness. He couldn’t make her go through another cruel life joke.
He wouldn’t. There and then, he made his decision. He was going to let go of her. For her good. It killed him thinking what could be the last days of his life might be spent without her but he figured the thought of having her break all over again was worse.
“I’m glad we can put the past behind us and forge forward,” Evelyn said with a loving gaze directed towards her daughter.
“Alright! Let’s eat!” Luis said with a grin, earning himself a pat on the head from June. Together, the family ate to their heart content. The next day, they would figure out the next plan of action.
Meanwhile, April stayed up late with her team as they placed the final tweak on the South City Resort project design. Despite her fatigue, she was happy and confident in winning the contract.
“Good work.” She commended her workers for the first time.
April could hardly wait to see the look on her sister’s face when she won the project with a design that belonged to her. Taking that win would be the biggest one yet and she was ready for it.
After rounding up at the office, she left Lontoc Constructions Headquarters with her phone. After multiple failed attempts to reach Colton, she checked his phone location and it read he was in the Rivera Stores headquarters.
These days, things were going down with Rivera Stores and as a result, their relationship was strained. “Drive straight to Rivera Stores.” She ordered her driver and soon got on the road.
When April arrived at Rivera stores, Colton was balls-deep into a woman in his office. She brushed past the security with the food bags she got for dinner. April took the elevator and headed to the CEO’s floor which was as empty as the building itself.
April smiled when she saw the lights of his office. She felt moved at the thought of how much hard work he had put into advancing the company. She had to give him a special treat to reward his dedication to her and the company.
Her core wept at the dirty thoughts that coursed through her mind. When April pushed the office door open, her thoughts were wiped clean and an unhealthy dose of anger took over her as she watched Colton sleep with a woman that wasn’t her.
They were so into it, they didn’t register her presence in the office. After the longest two seconds of shock and unbelief, April registered her presence with a scream.
“How dare you?!” April rushed towards the naked woman who sat on her husband-to-be, expertly taking what she had been starved of in recent times.
Colton opened his eyes as soon as her piercing scream reached his ears. “Rebecca!” Colton saw the deranged look on April’s face and yelled.
April got to the woman just in time to grab a fist full of her hair as she pulled her mercilessly off her man. “You slut! How dare you?! How dare you lay your filthy hands on what’s mine?!”
The woman was not intimidated. She grabbed a fist full of April’s hair and soon, they were on the floor, screeching, scratching and attacking themselves. Colton was forced to step in and separate.
He dragged April by the waist and placed her on the other side of the office while she struggled against his hold. “Leave me alone! Let me on her! Let me at that bitch you are sleeping with!”
“Call me a bitch one more time and I promise you won’t have a tongue! Colton, get your wench to hold her tongue or I will cut them off and give them to my fucking dogs!”
“I will ruin you! You will pay for this! Let me go!” April thrashed against Colton’s bare chest.
“Calm the hell down! I’m trying to save your life, darn it!” Colton yelled when she bit him on the chest, forcing him to let her go in a disgraceful manner.
April fell on her face. As though the betrayal wasn’t enough, the woman who was now dressed and ready to leave, left a parting word. “Congratulations on selling the company, Col. I didn’t know you had it in you.”
