Chapter 47 – Why are you walking like that?

Knock! Knock!
June and Rafael lay fast asleep on the bed until the sound of someone banging on the door awakened them.
June sat up with the speed of light, covering herself with the sheets when she found she was naked underneath. Rafael couldn’t be bothered to get up.
He took on a lot of work the night before and he required some more sleep for him to function properly.
“Auntie! Are you in there?!”
The small voice of Luis was all it took to get June up and running. Rafael sat up and watched her with an amused look as she viewed her torn clothes with horror.
“Don’t just sit there, I need something to wear!” She whisper-yelled with a wild look on her face.
Rafael finally stepped out of the bed in his full glory. June caught sight of his morning wood and she averted her eyes in shyness. Her actions were comic to Rafael who picked up a robe and became decent.
“Don’t act all shy on me now, it’s nothing you haven’t seen or felt before.” These things he said with eye contact on June who was squirming as she put on one of his dress shirts and shorts.
More knocks were heard from the door, “Father! What are you doing to my auntie?! Open this door this instant!” The little one chastised, running short of patience.
“Oh my sweet boy, leave them be okay? Mummy and Daddy need some time alone. I bet they would join us for breakfast soon.” Beatrice added in a high-pitched voice, “Right, June?!”
June was so embarrassed, that she wanted the earth to swallow her whole. “It’s not what you think, mother!” She said in a pitched voice, “I will be with you soon, baby!” She added for the little prince.
“That’s great! We’ll leave you to get decent, then.” Her mother-in-law said and her face reddened the more.
Rafael sat on one of the chairs in his office room watching June while she waited until they heard the door of the office slam shut. A deep breath escaped June who turned around to meet the crooked gaze of Rafael.
“I need to get to my room. Luis must be anxious and the last thing I want is for my little prince to get the wrong ideas,” June made to leave but Rafael dragged her back into himself.
“Where’s my good morning kiss?”
June, “!!!”
She opened her mouth to speak but was silenced by Rafael’s lips, which covered hers in an intense kiss. She struggled to make sense of it for a second, then dissolved into his arms.
Rafael was a good kisser. Great even. Everything she didn’t know she needed. Why was she kissing him again? The kiss slowed to a stop, giving her a run for her money as they came up for air.
“W-What was t-that?” She mumbled, feather-brained.
“That is how we will start our mornings moving forward. I already told you, that once I crossed that door, I won’t hold back.” Rafael said, drawing lines on her face. “I am your husband and you will treat me as such moving forward.”
“Is that clear?”
June didn’t have the time to respond because he covered her lips in a sweet short kiss, then stepped away when she made an attempt to deepen it.
“Unless you want a repeat of what happened last night, I suggest you go out now. I’ll have a shower and join you for breakfast.”
“Except you’d like to join me in the shower?” Rafael teased her to no end.
June rushed out of the place like she had a fire in her butt. Her cheeks were a permanent shade of red as she sneaked off to her room, managing to evade the eyes of Luis or her mother-in-law.
Only when she was safely locked in her room did she take a breather to think about all that had happened in the last twelve hours. Not only was she introduced as his wife, but she had also managed to spend their first night together.
The worst part of it was in the deepest part of her heart, she liked it. She didn’t regret a single thing that happened. In fact, she enjoyed it, the permanent tint on her cheeks was proof enough of that.
All that remained was how to face the family when she was so embarrassed, she couldn’t think straight. Soon enough, June got cleaned and dressed.
She walked downstairs with a tilt to her steps. A result of the damage incurred from the night of ecstasy. Nevertheless, she was determined not to draw attention to herself or the events of the night.
“Oh there you are, June! Come over! We have been waiting for you!” Mrs. Beatrice hollered as soon as she caught sight of June.
Luis’s brows furrowed. “Are you okay, Auntie? Why are you walking like that?” June froze at his words, and at that moment, Rafael stepped into the room, looking dapper in a fitting blue suit.
“Answer him, love.” He joined the conversation, taking a seat on the table, just beside June. “Why are you walking like that?”
June’s ears reddened. “Nothing, I hit my foot on the door, so..” she waved it off, “How was your night sweetie? Did you sleep well?”
Luis took a beat before he answered. “I woke up at night and searched for you. I was hearing odd sounds and thought someone had broken into my father’s office.”
June choked on her water.
Rafael looked pleased and his mother was having a field day watching their interactions. “Are you okay, love?” Rafael came to the rescue, patting her back like a loving husband.
Luis immediately felt jealous. “Auntie! You never told me father was your husband!” His face was sorrowful as he spoke, “I thought I was your favourite.”
June felt her heart melt. “Of course you are! You will always be my favourite, sweetie! I love you.”
“But I am her husband,” Rafael said in a sing-song voice. “Have a beautiful day darling. Mother. Son.” He picked up an apple from the basket and got up.
“Rafael!” June chastised when Luis’s features grew poorer. “Pay him no mind love, okay?”
Rafael dropped a kiss on her cheek and picked up his briefcase. “See you later darling. Stay in touch.”
With that, Rafael walked out of the place and headed to work, leaving her with his mother and an upset Luis. Mrs Beatrice ate up her ears as soon as her son was out of sight.
“You are glowing! It worked! Should I expect a second grandchild? I should, right? Oh dear, I am so happy for you.” She smouldered her plates with food. “Eat up! You are not alone in this. Remember, you are eating for two now.”
June, “!!!”
Luis got up from his seat. “I’ll be in my room.”
“Study well alright!” Mrs Beatrice said, stopping June from leaving. “You need to eat. Come on, you have to finish this plate, and this, and this.”
Once again, June was made to stay by her mother-in-law, who made sure she ate till she couldn’t move, after which she was saved by a phone call and returned to her room for work.
