Chapter 36 – I am not my sister

Book:The Rejected Ex-Wife Published:2024-12-11

The next morning, June took an early trip to the hospital to meet with Doctor Carson.
If there was one thing that her last night’s rendezvous did to her, it awakened her insatiable thirst for vengeance on her family. More especially, April. She was going to make her pay for killing her and ruining her chances of having a baby.
She would do it even if it was the last thing she did on earth.
June arrived at the hospital with Thomas by her side. These days, he was like a shadow of her, towering over her and protecting her in the way he knew how.
He barely spoke but June knew he was efficient in his work, regardless of his absent social skills. “I want to see Doctor Carson,” June said to a nurse behind the City’s counter.
The young lady who looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there shot her a bored look. “Do you have an appointment?”
“I don’t. But if you can tell him that-”
“Then you can return when you have one.” The woman cut her off in a flippant tone. “Anything else?”
June bit her lower lip in thought, “I already sent him a text and he is expecting me. If you could please send a word to him, I will be-”
“Madame, please step out of the way and return when you have an appointment.” Her tone was flat-out rude.
June’s shoulders sagged. Maybe she should have booked an actual appointment before rushing down here. Just when she made to leave, Thomas stepped in and showed her a black card with the logo of Ambrose Corporation.
Suddenly, the woman sat up straight. “What do you need, sir?” She said in a flirtatious tone, eyeing him suggestively. “I can direct you to the best Doctor in the hospital. I’ll just inform him of your presence.”
June’s jaws nearly hit the floor, “!!!”
When the nurse noticed June was still standing, her nose flared. “Woman, why are you trying to cause a ruckus?! Step away from the counter and don’t come back until you have an appointment! Do you think you can afford a consultation with the best Doctor in South City?”
“You are not even worthy to mop the ground he stands on talk less of having a consultation with him.” She hissed, gritting her teeth. “I know you are poor and have no money. It is clear from the third-grade materials you are putting on. Leave while I am being nice!”
June looked down at herself and a wry smile made its way to her face. She had been in such a hurry that she threw on one of her old clothes she bought with a few cents during her time as a waitress.
Who would have known that her appearance would cause her to face such insult?
“Consider yourself out of a job.” A voice said from behind them and June turned around.
Rafael stood behind them with a man she didn’t recognise, he wore an expensive suit with a very dark look on his face.
The nurse looked at the men, then back at June. She couldn’t understand what connected them together. However, from the limited edition clothes the men wore, she knew they had to be important people.
“Rafael?” June said, her tone revealing nothing.
“Wifey.” He said in an even tone, forcing a red tint to rush up her cheeks.
At that moment, the nurse knew it was the end of the road for her. “S-sir-” She searched for words but they failed her.
“June!” Doctor Carson stepped into the scene, having waited for her arrival until this point. “You are here.” He said when he noticed Rafael. “You didn’t mention it was a family consultation.”
June sported an awkward smile. How would she explain she had thought it to be a personal consultation too and was as surprised to see them as he was?
“I want her fired. Effective immediately.” Rafael said, and Carson nodded.
He had been getting numerous complaints about her. She definitely messed with the wrong person this time. “Leave the premises.”
“Please!” The woman begged, stepping out of the place. “I didn’t realise-”
Seeing the cold look on Rafael’s face was all she needed to know she had made a grave mistake. They were the famous Ambrose family! The biggest shareholder and part owner of the hospital. You couldn’t mistake that kind of wealth anywhere.
Her words fell on deaf ears as Carson led the family to his office. Thomas remained outside with the man who accompanied Rafael to the hospital.
“Do I want to know why my wife left for the hospital without saying a word of it to me?” Rafe asked as soon as they settled, going for the throat.
“Do I want to know why my husband stalks me to the hospital?”
Carson nearly choked on his tea. This was premium entertainment. TV gold. He hadn’t seen his friend react so cool about being called a stalker.
Instead, Rafael reached for June’s face, bringing it closer to him as he inspected her face. “Are you alright?” He suddenly asked and June let out an awkward laugh.
“Do you listen to gossip too?”
June knew the little ruckus she caused at the party last night would be making news, but she hadn’t expected her husband to hear of it.
Rafael turned to Carson, “I want a full check-up done on her. Leave no stones unturned.”
June shook her head. “I am alright! I didn’t come here for that.” Her words were hurried, which caught the attention of them both.
“I think you need to be a lot more clearer than that, June.” Carson said when he felt Rafael’s gaze on him. The last thing he wanted was for his friend to get the wrong ideas.
“I wanted to find out some things regarding my assault. I want to file a case against my attacker and to do that, I need some information.”
Just then, Rafael’s phone beeped with a text, he opened it with a swipe and his brows narrowed and his hands flew across his phone in response.
“I don’t think this is the best place to discuss this matter.” Carson said, “There is a lot going on in the background but there is nothing much to be done seeing the entire footage of that day had been breached and wiped out.”
“Filing a case now would only alert the enemies of your plans, and eliminate the possibility of catching them off-guard.” Carson took a look at his watch. “I think we have to conclude this conversation at a later time, maybe I would come to the house.”
June shook her head, “We can meet over dinner.”
Rafael got on his feet. “Keep me updated.” He said to June. “I’ll leave first.”
June watched him step out of the office after forcing Carson to do a check-up on her vitals, to which she was forced to oblige. Afterwards, they made plans to meet and discuss matters for later.

“How dare you? How dare you insult me in this manner?!” Olivia Lontoc said to Ethan who wore a sober look on his face. “Not only did you take matters into your hands and hold a party, but you even made a mess of it!”
Since the party, he had expertly avoided his parents, sticking to his office and busying himself with meetings but his mother caught him this time.
“I’m sorry, mother. I wanted to formally announce-”
“Shut up!” His mother swore under her breath. “I think it’s time I speak to that pregnant wife of yours! It seems like she is beginning to-”
“Beginning to what?” April stepped into the office despite every attempt by Ethan’s secretary to stop her.
Olivia turned around with a dark look on her face. “Finally. The queen deemed it fit to see me.”
“I’m sorry mother. I have been a bit busy.”
“Too busy to respond to my calls? Have you lost your mind?!”
April scoffed, the sheer sound of it shocked Olivia to the point she almost spewed blood in anger. “How dare you little-”
Olivia raised her hand to dish a slap at April for her insolence but Ethan stepped in and received the slap in her stead. “My son!”
A concerned look etched on Olivia’s face as she took in the damage done to her son’s face. Her anger grew tenfold. “You this-”
“Stop it Mother! Please!” Ethan said, trying to hold his mother still. “She is pregnant!”
Olivia stepped back, throwing a sharp look at April who stood with her hands wrapped around her chest, unbothered. There was something so rude in her disposition, that her heart burned with anger.
“Are you done?” April asked when her mother-in-law stood still. “Because if you are done, then listen carefully. This will be the last time you come in here and query my husband or try anything this stupid again.”
Olivia’s jaws hit the floor at her words.
“Do not test me, Olivia.” April stepped in front of her with an evil smile. “I am not my sister.”
