Chapter 33 – Oh don’t look so surprised

Book:The Rejected Ex-Wife Published:2024-12-11

June noticed Lucy’s unusual quietness as they approached the hotel where Ethan and April’s party would be held.
“We will get down here, Thomas. You can park the car and come right in afterwards.” She said to Thomas who hmed in response, doing as he was told.
Judging from the card she received, the party had started three hours ago and they were extremely late. Good thing that she wasn’t aiming to make an impression. Seeing she never thought she would be attending the party, she had come here with zero plans.
This meant that other than the fact she was about to set eyes on the woman who ruined her life, she had no idea what to do or how to approach the matter. Thankfully, she had always known how to wing things.
The duo soon got out of the car and trudged into the place, turning in their invites at the gate. The security was tight as there were a lot of important people at the said event.
“Name.” The security official asked, looking at June with curious eyes.
Lucy was afraid, but she didn’t let it show. Instead, she bravely spoke, “I am the Project manager of the Lontoc Construction group! I already gave you our cards, do you want to lose your job?”
The security man hesitated but remained firm. “There is a list. I need to make sure that your name is on the list before I let you in Ma’am. I’m only following orders.”
June arched her brow at her assistant’s expert move, one she hadn’t seen coming. Seeing the man’s steadfastness, she joined forces, further intimidating the security.
“Just wait. I need to make a call.” June said with a serious expression as she plucked her phone from her purse, while Lucy humphed with her nose in the air, giving an annoyed look at the security.
It was one of the latest phones in the series, launched exclusively to the top elites of South City. Even June didn’t realise how expensive and sorted after the phone was.
Meanwhile, unknown to June, Thomas had stepped out of the dark and stood behind them, scaring the security men with his looks. Which prompted the security to give way.
Before she could finish the act, the security bowed his head and apologized.
“Forgive my insolence, please go in.” He ushered her inside the hotel lobby which was almost barren of people.
The entire place had been locked down for the party with directions to the meeting hall starting from the lobby.
“You literally saved us from embarrassment!” June said to Lucy who also broke out in sweat a minute ago, “If you hadn’t used that line, we probably wouldn’t have gained access.”
Lucy shook her head. “I think your brother played a bigger role than I did.” She stated, bringing June’s attention to Thomas.
She had almost forgotten he was around!
“How did you get past the gate?” Her words slipped, and he shrugged. “Nevertheless, let’s get going.”
June grabbed the hand of her assistant and together, they walked into the venue of the meeting, just in time to meet the couple giving a speech.
“I appreciate every single one of you for taking the time to come celebrate with me and my lovely wife on this day.” Ethan said, looking fondly at April who smiled abashedly.
“It is no surprise that I am very in love with the woman by my side and after three years of hell with my ex-wife, the heavens decided to bless me with a woman after my heart.”
June felt her heart tighten at the sight of April, doing what she knew best – putting up an act so good that the entire people cooed and swooned at the sight of her seeming shyness of her husbands declarations.
In actual truth, April had written Ethan’s speech herself and gave him a mantle to recite it in front of the people during the party. Alongside with the announcement of a special news that she would personally announce in the coming days.
June and Lucy split up in the hall, Lucy with a mission to scour out new and prospective clients for the company while June made her way into the crowd, expertly hiding herself as she watched the couple from afar.
Her lips pursed in one line as the she remembered how April had looked her in the eye, and stabbed her to death in that closet room. In order to truly heal, she had brushed it to the side, waiting for the perfect time to begin her revenge.
“Today, I would like to announce the wedding will be taking place in the next two weeks.” Ethan said with a bite he covered expertly.
June eyes narrowed at her ex-husband, who looked like he was forced to smile as he addressed the people. Trouble in paradise?
A smirk made it’s way to her lips as she planned to find out.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
June drew attention to herself as she made her way to the front with a devilish smile on her face. “Permit me to be the first to congratulate you on your wedding, Ethan!”
The smile on April’s lips froze at the sight of her sister. She couldn’t believe her eyes. How could she? She had personally stabbed her to the point of near death and when she got lucky, sent a nurse to finish up the situation!
Was this a ghost?
“J-June?” Ethan muttered, unable to believe his eyes.
June had turned from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swann! Her skin looked fresher and her orbs shone. She looked like a brand new person.
“S-sister?” April stuttered, eyes wide.
“Oh don’t look so surprised.” June said with a wave of hand.
Rumours and murmurs passed around as the people witnessed the scene that played before them. Each wondering the identity of the beautiful woman who stood in front of the couple.
“I couldn’t miss the party of my beloved little sister now, would I?” She taunted, loud enough to elicit reactions. “Not when I am alive.”
Fear gripped April who thought she was about to be exposed. “Sister… please-” She begged as she looked around for her mother.
Ethan was at loss for words. He had never seen April appear so scared in recent times. He couldn’t help but feel like there was a reason behind it. Why was his wife so shocked to see her sister? What else was she keeping from him?
“What are you doing here?!” A loud voice said from the crowd.
It was Mrs. Evelyn Rivera, accompanied by her husband who looked a mixture of shocked and happy to see June.
“How dare you show up here after embarrassing this family? Have you no shame?!”
June scoffed, then turned to face her mother who looked at her like the devil.
“Oh mother, have you been well? I hear that you have been having a hard time managing the business.” Her smile was cutting. “I would have loved to help, but you see, it’s hard to do that when I have been kicked to the curbs.”
Gasps ensued as the tables turned.
