Mrs. Olivia and her husband summoned Ethan to the family house upon hearing the recent changes in the the board.
“What the hell are you doing son?” Olivia asked before her husband made an entry. “How could you make her a part of the board?!”
Ethan wanted to speak but the words were lodged in his throat. How could he tell his mother that their company was at the hands of his wife?
How could he explain that April had gone out of his control and now secretly called the shots of their beloved company? Since the few days he discovered his cunning wife’s ways, everything had gone downhill.
“Lucy Garfield was betraying us.” He managed to spew before his father stepped into the conversation.
“And the best person to replace her was your pregnant wife?!” The elderly man roared. “Have you lost your brains? Have you gone mad, Ethan?!”
Ethan’s mouth shook at the fury of his father. He fell to the floor. “April has more knowledge and experience than you give her credit for, Father!”
“She can handle the position and since she will soon be a member of this family, there’s no harm in making her a part of the board.”
Ethan received a kick from his father who was so angry he was so close to bursting a vein. “She would soon be a part of this family?! What has that got to do with anything, you fool?!”
“Gary!” Olivia screamed at the sight of her son being abused by her husband. “Stop hitting my son!”
“Your son?!” He hit him the more. “Of course, he is your son! No son of mine should be this callous and stupid!”
“I will not let him ruin the hard work of the Lontoc family elders because he doesn’t know how to make the right decision!”
“Father! I promise I won’t let anything happen to the company!” Ethan said with his head on the ground. “Please, trust me. I know what I am doing!”
“You heard our son,” Olivia said to her husband. “You already made him CEO. You should trust his decisions. If the former project manager was selling us out, then you should applaud our son for finding the rat and expelling them from the company.”
“Trust his decisions?” His father’s tone was incredulous. “How can I trust a man like this? A man who cannot even choose the right woman! It’s a disaster to put any faith in him!”
Ethan raised his head and got on his knees. “I will not disappoint you papa! I promise!”
“Then get that woman out of the board! I don’t want her in my board! It’s horrid enough I have to accept her as a daughter-in-law. She should not be involved in the matters concerning the company! You have been warned.”
With that, the elderly man made their way out of the sitting room, muttering words underneath his breath and furious.
Ethan watched him go with pain in his heart. There was no way he could perform his father’s orders. There was no way that April could be chased out of the board.
“You heard your father. Get her out of the position and employ someone fitting. Even if it means poaching someone from our rivals. Get the job done and tell April I need to see her.”
With that, his mother left him in the sitting room, walking after her husband. These days, Ethan father’s blood pressure was approaching dangerous waters. The other day he had fainted and she had to conceal the matter.
Ethan was left alone, seated on the floor. One of the maidens saw him on the floor, and made to help him up but that only incurred his wrath.
“Get out of here! Do you want to be fired?!”
With a shaking form, the poor woman said her apologies and almost ran out of the place. After thinking for a while, Ethan stood up, dusted his clothes and walked right into his car.
As he drove, his phone rang uncontrollably. It was April. He decided not to pick the call and instead headed straight for their shared penthouse.
“Where have you been?!” she barked as soon as he stepped into the house. “Do you think you can leave this house without my permission? Did you go to see another of your numerous sluts, Ethan?!”
Tired from the day and her incessant accusations, he lashed out at her. “What is wrong with you?! Huh?! This is not the woman I fell in love with! Why are you trying to ruin my life?!”
April was stunned at his reaction, and for a minute, she watched him with cautious eyes. “Where are you coming from?” She asked once again, holding back her anger. “Tell me, Ethan. Where did you sneak off to so early in the morning?”
“My parents summoned me! They heard of your appointment as the new member of the board and my father wants you out. What am I supposed to do? All my explanations fell on deaf ears!”
April chuckled. “Is that why you are so distraught?”
Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise. “Don’t you get it? My father wants you out of the board. If I don’t do it, he will step into the company.”
“He won’t.” She boasted. “Biggest shareholder, remember?”
Ethan’s face morphed into that of intense pain and frustration.
“My parents cannot know what I have done. You promised to keep it under wraps.”
She shrugged. “I made that commitment on the condition that they stay out of our way and decisions. If your parents as little as try anything funny, I will not hesitate to place them right where they are supposed to be.”
“April…”
“I suggest you keep them in check.” She huffed, “They are throwing a tantrum because I gained a seat? They will lose their hair when I become the head of the board.”
Ethan’s jaws dropped at her words. April didn’t care to humour him. Instead, she found her way back into their bedroom to prepare for the day’s events.
They had a press meeting today with one of the leading media channels to discuss her new position at LT Constructions. However, due to the news of her in-laws request to have her out, she decided to deal subtly with them.
They would never know what hit them.
Meanwhile, at the Rivera Mansion, Evelyn laid in bed with her husband, Antonio, who spoke with a heavy heart.
“I think it’s about time we involved the police with finding June. It’s been two months and there’s been no word. I am beginning to get worried.”
Evelyn’s face marred with a frown at the mention of her eldest daughter. She couldn’t understand why her husband cared about that child who was not even his own.
“Why would I do that? She is probably somewhere with her countless men! I have a lot to do with the business and April’s wedding coming up. Besides, I don’t want her badluck rubbing off our family now that things are finally looking up for us.”
Anthonio sat up on the bed with a concerned look on his face. “I think something might have gone wrong with her. Infact, I have secretly searched for her but-”
“You have secretly searched for her?!” Evelyn Rivera cut him short. “Why are you so obsessed with that child? Did she bewitch you?”
“Baby..”
“I don’t want to hear it! No more about June and her badluck in this house, Antonio. I disowned that child the moment she killed my husband. You should do too!”
Antonio who saw his wife react so angrily made to soothe her with apologies but she turned around in anger, facing her back to him all through the night.
