June stood in front of Rafael’s office with her phone in hand.
Today was the day she left the house. She needed to look over spaces for her new company but she didn’t know how Rafael will take to her finally leaving the house.
It was no surprise that he didn’t like having her leave the house, especially when she was only fully recovering from the last attack, and in consideration for her health, she had put off going out for the longest period of time.
However, there was no way for her to move her plans forward without going out to sort out other things needed for the launch of her company.
Over time, she had even brushed up her skills, drawing out architectural designs just to pass out time – designs she planned to use as models for the first set of projects she intended to carry out as soon as her company goes live.
Three knocks to the door and June was asked into Rafael’s office.
One look at her and he shook his head. “No.”
June’s shoulder sagged. “You can’t say no when you haven’t heard me out.”
“I can see you are dressed, and if my perceptions are right, you want to leave this house. Your wounds are not properly healed, so it’s a no.”
“Carson said I was fine.” She blurted. “He even gave me the clear to go out, providing I stay out of danger, and take care of myself.”
Rafael resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “With your track record of taking care of yourself, you can see why this is not feasible.”
“I am not asking your permission, Rafael. I am merely informing you.” She said when he was being unreasonable. “I can’t possibly stay locked in here all my life.”
Rafael looked like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. “What do you need? Tell me and I will get them to you in this house.” He said, almost pleading.
“I will be fine.” June stated, stepping closer to him and placing a reassuring palm on his face. “I would be back in the shortest possible time.”
Rafael covered her hand with his. “I want you to have your phone at all times. You are leaving with a convoy of security, which is non-negotiable.” He gritted.
“Anything else, My lord?” June said with a smirk he wanted to remove with a kiss.
In that moment, the duo were lost in each other’s eyes and the place where their hands met sizzled in tension. Rafael’s eyes dropped down her lips and he swallowed.
For some reason, he couldn’t forget the feel of her lips on him, nor could he resist the animalistic side of him that wanted to plant his lips on hers this second and make her forget all about whatever she planned to do today.
He wondered the sounds she would make when he pushed her up against his desk and have her writhing underneath him as he fulfilled his dirty desires, hoping they were hers too.
“Rafael?” June cleared her throat, redness coating her cheeks.
The intense look in his eyes was able to make a full grown man squirm. Thankfully, her phone rang with the agent who was supposed to show her some office spaces, cutting the moment as she turned away.
“I have to leave now.” She said as she stepped away, placing the phone on silent and waiting for his final word.
“The men will be ready in five,” Rafael said, briefly closing his eyes to still the flame in his body.
With that, June nodded and made her way out of the office. Soon enough, she went out and the men were waiting outside for her.
One of them opened the door as soon as they sighted her, head bowed as he gestured towards the Jeep. Although June was not used to the large entourage or travelling style, she was not a fool to discard them.
If there was one thing she learned from her near-death experience, it was the fact that she couldn’t go wrong with security. The last thing she wanted to be was unprepared in the time of danger.
June entered the SUV with one of the security men seated on the passengers seat. As they sped past the city, June communicated with the agent who she was meeting as June Ambrose.
Rafael had given her a new identity following her accident and gone to the extent of giving her legal documents that proved she was no longer a Rivera but an Ambrose.
An act she appreciated with all of her heart.
They arrived at the agency’s office which had garnered a lot of good reviews from the public. As June stepped out of the car, she slid on her shades and hoped she got the best office space that would host her baby company.
“What is your name?” She asked one of the men who was to follow her everywhere.
Although the security detail was confused as to why she needed to know his name, he gave it regardless. “Thomas.”
“Thomas.” She tested the name on her lips then said with a smile. “Thomas, moving forward, you will be addressed as my husband.”
The poor man’s eyes bulged at her words and she almost laughed in his face.
“Okay, maybe that was too much. Let’s say… Brother?” She asked and he nodded in agreement.
“Good. Let’s go in, Brother Thomas.” June gingerly took his arm, and together, they walked into the building to see the agent.
After brief introductions where she expertly hid most of her Identity and paraded her security as a brother while having the others tail her discreetly, they were on the go, hunting for the birthplace of JL Constructions.
The day was almost uneventful. They had gone to over six locations and none of them seemed to appeal to June. When she set out on this journey, she thought it would be an easy feat.
Walk in, go for a showing, find her dream office space, do a transfer and get the deeds of the space. Everything seemed to be working against her at that moment.
“I think we should stop for a meal,” June said when they walked out of the last showing. The worst of it all.
If she saw one more space without getting food in her system then she would scratch her eyes out. Her agent seemed to be losing hope of ever getting the perfect fit for her too.
Not to mention the fact they have spent the last four hours on the move with nothing to show for it. Not even a place she liked in the least. At this rate, she was considering setting up her company in Rafael’s home.
It was that bad.
“I second that.” Her agent said and when she saw the brief nod from Thomas’s head, the deal was sealed.
Soon enough, they were looking out for the best place to have lunch and when they came across a fast food, they excitedly parked to have a bite.
June stepped out with her agent, texting Rafael some updates on how things were on her end, as well as giving some love to Luis who was currently on a thirty-minute break from lecture.
Her eyes were stuck on her phone when she heard a ruckus coming from within the restaurant. The front door flung open and a young woman was pushed out by a furious older man.
“You wench! Do you think this place is a freeloading bar?! Never return or I will make sure you are sent to the police!”
The young lady was full of tears as she fell on June’s feet.
June took off her glasses as she recognised the lady on her feet. “Lucy?”
