Chapter 13 – Is there a problem?

Book:The Rejected Ex-Wife Published:2024-12-11

June stepped out of the restaurant’s kitchen, balancing a tray of orders as she headed towards a table that held a group of men.
“Here you go.” She said with a moderate smile, cheeks strained from the amount of smiles she had to wear in order to appear friendly. “Please enjoy your meal.”
She made to leave but was stopped by an older man’s hand placed on her wrist. “Don’t be so quick to leave, beautiful. Sit.”
It wasn’t the first time such a thing was happening. Three days working here and she somehow managed to meet one of these dirtbags every single day.
The worst part of it was the fact she couldn’t do anything about it. They were all bloody rich and the last thing she needed was to get fired from a job that both fed and housed her.
“I apologize, sir. But I have to go.” She spoke with a strained smile, attempting to make her way out but he held her tightly.
“It wasn’t a request, girl.” He pulled her to his side, shamelessly staring at her form. “I want you for the night. How much would it take to see you without these smelly clothes on.”
The little sounds of the men chuckling made her sick. Was this what waitresses went through at the hands of these old hags? June was very close to blowing a fuse.
“Let me go.” She gritted, all traces of smiles wiped from her face.
When the man kept his terrible smirk on his face, she pulled her hands away roughly, moving to leave when she felt a palm squeeze her bum.
All traces of self-control evaporated from her body as she turned around, and delivered a striking slap across the face of the man, causing a ruckus.
“You will pay for this bitch!” The older man stood on his feet with rageful eyes. “Where is the manager?!” He roared, holding her wrist in a tight grip.
Having heard the ruckus, June’s manager stepped out of his office. A middle-aged man who had been placed in charge of this branch of the restaurant.
“What is going on here?” He asked as soon as he got to the scene of the situation.
“I was assaulted by this wench! I want her fired or I will sue this place to a close.” The man threatened, breathing fire.
“Mr Randy. I apologize for the situation.” The manager apologized immediately, knowing that the man before him was one of the influential lawyers in South City.
“June! Get on your knees. Apologize.” He added but she remained on her feet, anger brewing within her.
“He harrassed me! I was only being lenient to slap him!”
The manager’s eyes widened at her guts. If she was tired of this job, she should have put in a resignation and not risk both her life and the restaurant like this!
“I want her contract terminated! Fire her this instant!” By now, people were getting up from their tables, some filming the situation, while others left to find a better place to spend the night.
The manager felt stuck in the middle.
June looked around, expecting someone to say something of what she had faced but everyone seemed to be on the side of power, throwing her glares and some pitiful looks.
Unable to take it anymore, she rushed out of the place, headed straight for her storage room and picked up the few things she had managed to call her own before heading out of the place.
Just like that, she was out of a job and back on the streets.
Meanwhile, Rafael had just finished a meeting with some shareholders of his company. He picked up his phone, and his mother was soon on the line. Luis had yet to get out of his room or eat anything for three days.
“Rafe!” His mother’s energetic voice came on the line. “So you finally remember your mother?” She said in a snide tone and it took everything for him not to roll his eyes.
“Mother.”
“What do you want? I already told you I won’t send in the housekeeper. If you can’t handle my grandson, then maybe you should come back to the house.”
Rafael felt a headache coming. “I already moved out, mother.”
“Then pack in. It’s not like you are married and in need of privacy. You should live in the family house with my grandson.” She bemoaned.
At this rate, Rafael wondered why he was having this conversation with his mother. It was clear that she would not render any sort of help until she had him back at the family house where she could bring in a lot of women for him to pick.
“Good night, mother.” He ended up saying, and despite hearing his mother trying to say something, he ended the call.
A loud sigh escaped his lips and he dropped his phone. “Drive to the nearest restaurant.” He ordered his driver, needing some time alone before he returned to face his child.

“We should celebrate!” April said with a huge grin on her face as she dropped the documents on the table. “You are finally mine! All mine!” She jumped into his arms and Ethan felt all his worries melt away.
They had signed the marriage documents. And although it was not public yet, he couldn’t lie that he liked the fact April was now his wife.
“I already made a reservation. We can head over there right now.” He said in the sweetest voice. “Wife.” He added and the smile on April’s face made him feel like he’d won a lottery.
“Good. I’ll quickly get dressed and we can leave.”
April disentangled herself from Ethan and made her way to the ensuite bathroom, suggestively wriggling her waist and stopping at the door. “Join me?”
That was all the invitation Ethan needed to take off his clothes and join her in an intense bathroom round of sex. The very first they were having as a married couple.
Meanwhile, unknown to Ethan, he was facing a major scandal with news of his marriage making headlines. But of course, every news spoke of how June had lost her womb to her many unscrupulous relationships.
The news was delivered in such a way that the public was moved for Ethan who had to endure a loveless marriage where he was deceived by a woman who was incapable of bearing a child.
Not only were the public sympathetic towards him, but they all moved the motion for him to have her divorced and marry another woman. All of which were the work of his new wife who was currently consummating their reunion.
As soon as the couple stepped out of the bathroom, Ethan heard his phone ringing non-stop. He raised a finger and headed right for his phone, seeing his mother’s name.
He picked it up. “Mother.”
“My son! Come home! Come with April too! The gods are on our side! Hurry back!” She said in an excited tone that had Ethan confused.
April wore a knowing look but hid her smile. “What is the matter?” She asked innocently. “Is there a problem?”
He shook his head, “I just need to go home for a bit.” A frown made its way to his face. “I think we might need to postpone our outing. My mother is requesting to see us.”
