“Are you okay, auntie?” Little Luis said when he watched the blood drain from June’s face. “Are you hurting somewhere?”
June blinked, unable to shake off the dread that she felt upon seeing the news of the dead men. Something within her told her it was not by accident that they had been killed just after attacking her.
What really happened to them?
Rafael who silently watched her soon grew uncomfortable and impatient. His phone was beeping with a lot of work mails he needed to attend to and his child was insisting on remaining here with the strange woman.
“Are you going to keep us all waiting?” He suddenly asked, his reservations clear in his tone.
“I don’t want to stay in the hospital.” She muttered, her tone was without emotion and it was clear her mind was engaged.
Noticing her absent-mindedness, Rafael felt all the more upset. “Do you have someone who can take care of you in your house?”
She shook her head no. Her eyes were fixated on the TV screen.
Now Rafael felt like he was stuck babysitting a child. He looked to the heavens with an exasperated look and took in a deep breath before stalking all the way to the window for fresh air.
“Stay with me, Auntie. I would take care of you.” The sound of his son speaking in such a docile manner brought Rafael’s attention back to the duo.
Only then did he notice the room was emptied of the medical personnels.
Upon hearing the little one’s voice, June dragged her eyes from the Television and focused on the little boy. Her heart still beating hard in fear.
“Auntie would love to supervise you herself. But Auntie has a lot to do.” She cooed, wrapping her hand around the little boy.
Rafael watched in shock as his child embraced June. Luis was a very peculiar child. Ever since his birth, he hated people and selected humans who had the privilege of holding or taking care of him.
Amongst those people were himself, his mother, and the chief housekeeper of the Ambrose family. Luis refused to have anyone else around him, which was alright until they packed out of the Family house.
In the early stages of the young child’s life, he was raised in the Ambrose family Manor by his grandmother who did a beautiful job, spoiling him and giving him the best of everything.
Rafael was happy to stay in his family Manor, seeing he was a widowed man with a little boy he was still learning to take care of, but his mother’s need to get him re-married drove him to secure a house of his own.
Safe from the many women his mother brought to match him but saddled with the responsibility of taking care of his child. He soon found he wasn’t doing a perfect job and tried to hire the chief housekeeper but was blocked by his mother as punishment for leaving the family house.
It had only been three months since he left the house and in that miniscule of time, Luis had managed to fire a total of fifteen nannies. Some of which never returned after experiencing his son’s attitude for one day.
Flora was the current Nanny who managed to stay steadfast in her job despite the frustrations he knew his son had put her through, but he fired her the moment he heard his son had met an accident on a day he was supposed to be in school.
Apparently, she lost him on the way to school and conveniently forgot to inform him of the string of events until he was notified that his son had been involved in an accident.
He wasn’t going to miss her.
“Then become his Nanny.” Rafael found himself speaking.
June threw a cautious look at the man.
“I will pay you ten times whatever you are getting at whatever job you do. You don’t need to clean or do anything household. You just need to babysit my son.” He gritted, fighting the urge to add that she was a natural at it.
Luis looked up to June with expectant eyes, blinking his baby blue orbs. She felt stuck in the middle. There was no way she could work for the man in front of her. Even if it meant spending time with his beautiful son and a shit tonne of money.
She opened her mouth to speak but he stopped her with his words.
“You don’t have to give me an answer right now. Think about it and give me a call within three days.” He handed over a complementary card, which June took after some moments of hesitation.
“Stay in touch. And do not leave this hospital until you are better. That is a non-negotiable.” June hated the audacity of his words.
You are not the boss of me! She wanted to say but a shot of pain hindered the timely delivery so she swallowed it whole. Instead, she nodded her head like a docile child, desperate to get things over with.
After their interaction was over, Rafael faced his child with a stern look. “You will be leaving with me. Say your goodbyes.”
Although Luis wanted to revolt against leaving his aunt, he was smart enough to know that he had overdid it this time and his father was anything but happy with the day’s events.
He bowed his little head and his wavy hair fell over his face as he said, “Goodbye auntie. Please get well soon. I will come to see you every day.” He looked up at his father, waiting to hear him accept his condition.
Rafael knew his little son. It was a trap. If he didn’t agree to let him visit the hospital every day as he had declared, then it would be a hassle getting him out of the hospital.
And if he promised just to let him off the hook, Luis would never rest until he fulfils his word. There was no winning with him!
Ready to get things wrapped up, Rafael nodded his head in a silent agreement, which Luis took note of before finally stepping back from June.
Meanwhile, June watched their interactions like they were the most interesting pair in the world. And if you asked her, other than the pain she felt and the need to sleep off the dizziness in her eyes, she found them very fascinating to watch.
“Some men have been stationed outside. They will aid your stay here. Remember to think clearly about my offer and give me a call in three days.”
Rafael led his son out of the hospital room before she could air her grievances at the thought of having people placed to watch over her. However, June had a lot on her plate and decided to sleep it off.
When she woke up, she would change her world.
Rafael walked out of the hospital with Luis beside him. Gone was the sweet, spoiled and pampered version of a child he shamelessly revealed when he was with June Rivera.
Now he was just like his father, a cold wall with striking features, peculiar tastes and the aura of a king. The Father and son pair entered one of the SUV parked in front of the hospital which was used to convey his father upon hearing the terrible news.
The driver was seated in place, ready to take off and awaiting orders. Soon enough, the duo were headed home while Rafael whipped out his phone and placed a call across to someone.
As soon as the call connected, he muttered his orders in a cold tone. “Find out everything you can about June Rivera.”
Little Luis knew it was his auntie his father was talking about. His little heart leaped and he thought of the perfect way to tell his father he needed to have a copy of the said documents.
He wanted every information he could get about his auntie in order to draft out a plan to make her his nanny and mommy. If his father refused to have her, then he could grow up to marry her himself!
When the thought crossed his features, a smile drew on his lips and he figured that was not a bad idea. He would do everything to become a man worthy to be auntie’s husband!
