He was unlike other suitors who made grand gestures that only caused embarrassment and awkwardness. He preferred to put her first, considering her feelings before deciding what to do. His love was subtle yet omnipresent.
Rosalind thought that many girls might never experience such pure love in their lifetime. Yet she, someone who lived in the mud, had once completely possessed it.
Rosalind stood once again at the foot of Easthaven Bay, looking up at the lit living room. He must be working, she thought. At this hour, as the president, he surely had many international meetings to attend.
Many people believed Ulric was born with everything, but those who knew him understood that his efforts were beyond ordinary. He personally handled company matters and never shirked work despite being the president. This dedication was why he led W Group to a stable position in the business world-it wasn’t luck as outsiders speculated; it was his hard work.
Rosalind watched in a daze until raindrops fell on her. It started raining. She knew that leaving Northville City this time meant she would never return, so she came to see the place that held her best memories one last time.
As time passed, the rain intensified. Suddenly, the living room light turned off. Rosalind thought he had gone to bed and stepped out from under the tree to stand at the door. The next moment, unexpectedly, the door opened!
She wanted to run, but he spoke first.
“Miss Ruell?!”
Caught.
Cedric saw her pause and quickly approached. “It really is you!” But then his expression turned serious and displeased. “What are you doing here?”
“Passing by,” Rosalind could think of no better excuse.
Cedric laughed. “Passing by Easthaven Bay? This road is hard to pass by casually. Where are you headed?”
With her lie exposed, Rosalind could only listen.
“Miss Ruell, I really don’t understand you! You were so heartless. Our president humbled himself multiple times seeking reconciliation, lowering himself into the dust, yet you remained unmoved. Now you’re here again? To admire your handiwork?”
“Cedric…” Being scolded by him didn’t anger Rosalind because she knew how much Cedric protected Ulric and that her actions indeed seemed excessive from his perspective. “I have my reasons.”
“Reasons? What can’t Mr. Walters solve for you?!” Cedric had considered that there might be a reason for Rosalind leaving Mr. Walters against her will, but what could it be? W Group wasn’t omnipotent but had vast connections, and Mr. Walters never backed down from anything-what reason couldn’t they face together?
Rosalind lowered her eyes and tugged at her lips. “Can he kill his mother for me?”
“…”
“Cedric, if you truly care about him, don’t tell him about our conversation today or that I was here.”
