Ella sat in her office, the faint hum of the city outside her window barely registering in her mind as she sifted through the information Derek had helped her uncover. The more she learned about Tania’s connections, the more alarmed she became. Tania had woven herself into the fabric of the city’s underworld, and unraveling her web would not be easy.
Derek’s voice broke through her concentration. “Ella, I’ve found something.”
She looked up, her eyes narrowing. “What is it?”
“It’s a ledger, hidden within one of Tania’s shell companies. It details transactions with some of the most notorious figures in the city. If we can tie these to Tania, it could bring her entire operation down,” Derek explained, placing a file on her desk.
Ella opened the file, her heart pounding as she scanned the documents. This was it, the evidence she needed to finally expose Tania. But the risk was high. If Tania caught wind of what they were doing, she wouldn’t hesitate to retaliate.
“We need to move fast,” Ella said, her voice steady. “I’m not taking any chances. We’ll use this to turn her allies against her. But first, I need to make sure Leo and Liam are safe. They’re my top priority.”
Derek nodded, understanding the weight of her words. “I’ll help secure a safe place for them. In the meantime, we can start leaking bits of this information to the right people. Tania’s allies will begin to doubt her.”
As they finalized their plans, Ella’s phone buzzed. It was a message from an unknown number, but the content made her blood run cold:
“You think you’re safe, Ella? Think again. I’m watching.”
She knew it was Fabian. He had always been meticulous, and now he was slipping into the role of the villain she had cast him as. Ella’s heart sank as she realized that pushing him away had only fueled his anger.
“I need to take care of something,” she said to Derek, her voice faltering slightly. “Can you handle the rest for now?”
“Of course,” Derek replied, concern evident in his eyes. “But be careful, Ella. Fabian is dangerous, especially now.”
Ella nodded and quickly made her way out of the office. She knew where Fabian would be at the bar where he always went when he was upset. She had to confront him before he did something that couldn’t be undone.
When she arrived, she found Fabian slumped over the bar, a half-empty glass in his hand. His eyes were red, and his expression was a mix of anger and despair. He looked up as she approached, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
“Come to gloat?” he asked, his voice slurred.
“No, Fabian,” Ella replied softly, taking a seat next to him. “I came to talk.”
Fabian scoffed, downing the rest of his drink. “Talk? After everything, you still want to talk?”
“Yes,” she said, her voice firm. “Because despite everything, I don’t want to see you destroy yourself.”
He laughed bitterly. “Destroy myself? You’re the one who destroyed me, Ella. You and your revenge. I tried to help you, to be there for you, but you threw me away like I was nothing.”
Ella’s heart ached at his words, but she forced herself to stay calm. “I never wanted to hurt you, Fabian. But I can’t let you hurt anyone else, especially not my boys.”
His eyes darkened at the mention of Leo and Liam. “Your boys… the only good thing that came out of this mess. But you don’t trust me with them, do you?”
“I trusted you, Fabian,” but finding out that you were hired to kill me… I don’t think I could ever trust you again Ella said, her voice cracking. “But I also know you’re angry, and you might do something you’ll regret.”
Fabian looked at her, still angry with eyes filled with sadness. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I am a villain. But I never wanted to be. I just… I just wanted you to see me.”
Ella reached out, placing a hand on his arm. “I see you, Fabian. I always have. But this path you’re on… it’s destroying you. you need to stop before it’s too late.”
For a moment, Fabian seemed to consider her words. But then he shook his head, pulling away from her touch. “It’s already too late, Ella. Everything is set this in motion, and now i have to see it through.”
He stood up, tossing some money on the bar, and walked out without looking back. Ella watched him go, a sinking feeling in her chest. She had tried to reach him, but it wasn’t enough. What’s done is done, and she could only hope that Fabian wouldn’t betray again
As she left the bar, Ella knew that time was running out. She needed to bring Tania down before Fabian made his move. The stakes were higher than ever, and the lines between friend and foe were becoming increasingly blurred.
