Anything Is Possible When You Have The Third Wealthiest Family

Book:A Broken Ex Wife's Revenge Published:2024-12-8

The first day Rina went to see Joel at the building he purchased for O. S. N fashion house, she woke up with a huge smile on her face. Absolutely nothing could go wrong for her, and to Rina, it was such a deviation for the last month.
She turned on a pop song and allowed her body to move to the music. Craving the smell and taste of fresh coffee, she moved into the kitchen, getting started on a small pot. Her parents phoned in to check on her, adding to the excitement that Rina already felt.
If she needed more proof that it was going to be the best day ever, she’d just gotten it.
There was a knock on the door, yet Rina didn’t even flinch. She swayed to the door and pulled it open, taken aback when she met a fresh bouquet of tulips on her doorstep. Rina came out of the door and looked at both sides of her driveway, searching for the person who’d dropped the tulips.
She walked back into the house, armed with her tulips and a smile on her face when she saw nowhere there. When Zayn mentioned that he had the most discreet workers, he hadn’t been exaggerating. She’d also gotten another flower from him a few days ago, after their fight, and even though was she right at the door a second after the knock, she’d met no one there.
As was the ritual, Rina grabbed the last empty vase she had and filled it halfway with water, arranging the tulips into it. Making a mental note to grab some new vases the minute she got her first pay, she proceeded into her bedroom, keeping the vase beside her bed.
Now, she had one in the living room, the dining, and her room. She wondered where she would keep the next one.
Rina suddenly paused when she realized what she’d been thinking about. Shaking her head as if trying to get rid of the mere imagination, Rina walked out of her room and closed the door firmly behind her.
Accepting the tulips was a whole different thing from expecting them, and Rina tried to tell herself just that. While one couldn’t be controlled, the other screamed all shades of entitlement. She had no hold over Zayn and she needed to keep reminding herself of that fact for as long as their contract held. That meant that even when she saw him hooking up with other girls, she wouldn’t be able to say a thing about it.
Rina swallowed as the thought sunk in. It left a bile taste in her mouth and made her scrunch her face in disgust. But at the same time, Rina told herself she would be fine with it; she forced herself into believing that it was probably for the best.
Shaking out of that mood, Rina concentrated on brewing her coffee. When it was done, she carried it alongside her, walking out of the kitchen.
That was when she saw it – a white note peeking out of the paper the tulips had come wrapped in. Rina didn’t know how she had missed it the first time.
Unable to help the smile that spread on her face, and the anticipation in her chest, she placed the cup next to the paper and picked the note up, taking a deep breath to still her racing heart.
“This is nothing,” Rina muttered to herself like a mantra. “It means nothing. He’s just trying to be nice after our argument the last time. You shouldn’t have to act all excited over some note. Finn used to get them all the time for you, and look where that got you.”
Although it did nothing to calm the storm that had erupted within her, Rina pried the paper open. Her eyes read the first few lines a million times before moving on to the next.
“I checked the weather forecast today and saw there would be a light shower. At first, I was quite put off by it. I hate rainy days. But on a second note, I thought it was nature coming out to felicitate with you today on landing yourself a job. I’m proud of you, Rina Powers. I would have loved to come with you today, but I know what you would have said about that. I might have just not listened to you if I didn’t have an important meeting at the office. Call me when you’re done. We should go out for dinner. Don’t worry. It will be only us both.”
Rina grinned sheepishly, her heart going into overdrive with the content of the note.
“It means nothing, Rina,” she muttered again, grabbing her coffee with the note tucked in her palms. It didn’t matter to Rina that she had said the note meant nothing, or that she had made herself believe that singular fact, but she straightened the note and tucked it into her wedding portrait on her nightstand, totally blocking Finn’s smug face with it.
Satisfied with her actions, Rina shrugged out of her bathrobe and sauntered into the bathroom, getting back in the vibes of her music. She took a sip out of the mug and kept it close by as she ran herself a bath. When it reached the preferred temperature, she stepped into it and grabbed her sponge.
Her phone rang beside her and she lurched for it sharply. But when her eyes fell on the caller ID, all the excitement seeped away. She contemplated ignoring the call, but then again, realized it would just pass the wrong message along. Rina had decided she was done with her past life, and everyone who had existed there with her needed to know she wasn’t hung over like a sad lover.
“What do you want Finn?” She said into the phone.
“Good morning to you too, Rina Smith. Or Powers. Have you gone to the court to change it?” His tone was mocking.
“I’m certain you didn’t call to tell me about my choice of name, Finn Smith.”
“You’re right,” he answered. “But I was bored today and decided I would fight for possession of the little cottage on the other side of town. After all, you almost sold it for me.”
“And I’m thankful I changed my mind,” she replied, rolling her eyes. “Besides, the cottage is in my name. How do you want to beat that?”
“Anything is possible when you have the third richest family backing you.”
