Alexander disconnected the call from his dad and seethed with fury. Alyssa was back from Singapore and his dad was going over to the airport to pick her up. He unlocked his phone and rechecked the article which made his blood boil with fury.
Alliance between Titans!
The article explained how Nicholas Donnelly and Alexander Van Every were now related because of Nicholas’s relationship with Alyssa Van Every. It also explained how two people in love were setting relationship goals for others on their trip to Singapore. There were pictures of them together that angered Alexander even more. How could she choose Nicholas Donnelly when she knew he was the enemy? Couldn’t she realize that this was a game for Nicholas to get even with him? The moment he won, he would dump Alyssa like trash. He was just using her. Alexander swore to go over and drill some sense in her head.
He drove over to his parents’ house for dinner, since Alyssa was staying there after their dad sold off her apartment. His mom opened the door, and he stormed inside, just as always, his eyes seeking her out.
“At last she comes home. What made you agree to go on a trip with Nicholas Donnelly, of all the people on earth?” Alexander demanded, standing in front of her, forgetting to greet his parents on seeing her.
“Can we discuss it later, son? She hasn’t eaten since she came home,” said her dad.
“Alright, but mind you, Alyssa. I’m not letting this go. What you’ve done is a crime!” gritted out Alexander.
“Then kill me, already. It’s better to die than to have you bully me every second of your life.”
“Is that the way to talk to your older brother? I’m sure he’s just looking out for you,” scolded her mom.
“I don’t need looking after mom. I’m twenty-two already,” she pointed out.
“Yet people can take advantage of you. How can you trust Nicholas with your eyes closed?” demanded Alexander.
“I said that’s enough, Alexander. Let the girl eat in peace,” shouted her dad for the first time, taking Alexander by surprise. He knew his dad was disappointed in him because of his feelings for Eva. After the last argument with his parents, he hadn’t visited them at all. Maybe that was the reason he was taking Alyssa’s side for the first time.
Tears fell from Alyssa’s eyes at seeing her dad stand up for her for the first time. It was enough to stop Alexander, who looked shocked at her dad’s outburst.
It was the most awkward dinner, as they could feel the anger, and the undercurrents while they all sat eating in silence. Their dad saw her picking at her food and served her himself, ensuring that she ate properly.
“Daniel, shouldn’t you ask about what is going on between her and Nicholas instead of supporting her blindly?” grumbled her mom angrily, unable to restrain herself any longer.
“I’m sure if there’s anything, she’ll tell us.”
“How can you be okay with it, dad? Nicholas isn’t at all right for Lisa. How can you accept him?” demanded Alexander.
“Come on, son. He can’t be that bad, being my good friend Jonathan’s son. We were college buddies and even did an internship together. I’ll meet Nicholas to understand what’s going on,” said her dad, making Alyssa’s eyes widen with surprise.
“Please do not talk to him now. Everything happened so fast. Let me come to terms with it first,” she told her dad, while Alexander scoffed.
“I won’t let this marriage happen. I’m sure Nicholas is bluffing, to insult me and I know a way to defeat him in his own game,” said Alexander, getting up.
“Why do you always take everything so personally, son? I’m sure you can forget the grudges you hold against him. Grow up, Alex, and learn to forgive,” said her dad as they sat on the sofa while Alyssa cleared the table.
“It’s not possible,” said Alexander, his eyes glittering with determination. He received a phone call from Ashton and accepted the call, time glaring at his sister.
“Yes, Ashton. Is this important? Can I call you back later?”
“It is important, bro. Eva is marrying Maxwell next week. She has invited me and Hayley over to New York for her wedding on the 26th at St. Paul’s Chapel.” Alexander stuttered and blinked with horror, unable to process what he had just heard.
“I’ll call you back in a minute. I’m at mom and dad’s place.” He excused himself, hugged his mom, and walked out towards his car. Sitting inside, he called Ashton.
“What were you saying, bro? I couldn’t get you,” said Alexander, blinking to get a grip on himself. Did he hear him correctly? How could Eva get married to Maxwell so suddenly? When did they fix things between them? Didn’t he ask her to wait for him, whatever the situation may be? He couldn’t contact her because of her safety, and she couldn’t even wait for him!
“You heard me right, Alex. Eva is marrying Maxwell on the 26th at St. Paul’s Chapel. She has invited me and Hayley.”
“Oh, how is it I do not know of this? Why didn’t she call me?” cried Alexander, the desperation evident in his voice. He wanted to rush over to her apartment and remind her of her promise to wait for him forever. How could she forget everything they shared?
“Maybe she did. How would you know?” asked Ashton, and Alexander nodded.
“Maybe. I’ll just check. Thanks, dude! Catch up later!” He disconnected the call and fished out his old phone from his pocket to check. To his immense surprise, there was a message from Maxwell but none from Eva. He checked the message and seethed with fury.
It was an invitation to their wedding!
There was a note too below it.
Swept her off her feet! Wish us luck! I hope you’ll be coming over to see us get married! It’ll be fun!
“F*ck off, Maxwell Clyborne!” he swore, throwing the phone on the passenger seat with fury. How could Eva agree to his game? “Surely I’ll come over to your wedding. Not to watch but to wreck it!”
He switched on the ignition and drove over to Bronx, to her apartment. It was time to confront her. How could she claim to love him and yet marry Maxwell? However, to his immense disappointment, he found her apartment locked up.
“Ma’am has packed up and left with a gentleman a week ago. She hasn’t returned every since,” said the security at the door. Alexander took out his mobile phone and showed him Maxwell’s profile picture on his chat app.
“Was this the guy she went with?” The security guard frowned at the picture and thought hard.
“Yes, sir. That’s the guy.” Alexander fumed with jealousy realizing that Eva might have moved in with Maxwell. He thanked the guard and drove away towards his penthouse deep in thought. So they really were in a relationship! It wasn’t some hoax to rile him up and neither was it a game. Knowing Eva well, she wouldn’t have moved in with Maxwell if she was suspicious. He scowled all the way to his condominium, unable to decide what to do.
However, as he reached his building, he saw Nicholas’s blue Bentley parked outside. Blood boiled in his veins knowing what he was doing here. He drove into his building and parked at the sides, watching Nicholas walk in. He got down, ready to drill some sense into Nicholas’s head.
Nicholas stopped in his tracks on seeing his arch enemy right in front of him.
“After the stunt you pulled in Singapore, how dare you come here?” he gritted out, grabbing him by the collars. Nicholas smirked, not afraid of the bully.
“Why can’t I come to see my fiancee? Accept your defeat, Alexander. With all your bullying you couldn’t do a thing to stop us. I have the final say this time. I’m going to whisk Alyssa right from under your nose. Just wait and watch,” he gritted out in the same tone as Alexander did.
“I won’t leave you intact to marry my sister. I’ll damage you forever. No one will ever give you a second look,” growled Alexander, tightening his hold on him. “Not even Alyssa.”
“Love is blind, Alexander. She will marry me even if I’m disfigured. You lost, this time. Accept me as your brother-in-law!” Alexander punched him right in his face, making him stagger backwards as blood oozed from his nose.
“Do what you want with me, Alexander. I still will love Alyssa, forever. Just because you failed in your pathetic love story, you can’t stop me from marrying the one I love,” yelled Nicholas, his cry echoing in the still night. His words made Alexander all the more furious and frustrated.
“You son of a bi*ch! You deserve to die!” he growled menacingly, punching him with all his might. Nicholas fell down from the brunt of his attack, writhing in pain with blood oozing from his injuries.
“Kill me, Alexander. My soul will continue to love Alyssa. You have lost,” he laughed through his agony. Alexander kicked him with all his might till the security guards rushed in to stop the attack. Nicholas lay on the ground, closing his eyes with a happy grin on his face. The guards rushed an unconscious Nicholas to Bellevue Hospital nearby.
