Every time in such situations, Agnes would smile on the outside but feel immense pressure inside. She felt so insecure that she couldn’t handle these scenarios. Her mind would go blank, fearing she might say something wrong and cause trouble for Mr. Cat. Because she loved him, she was always very cautious.
Later in the evening, the elders invited her to stay overnight at the manor because it was windy and seemed like it would rain, but Agnes politely declined. She just spent a little more time with them.
“Did Tom call you?” Grandma asked. “Is he too focused on work? I must talk to him!”
“Grandma, he calls often. Whenever he has time, he calls. Don’t worry! Please don’t scold him!”
“Alright, alright, I won’t scold him. Look at how much you care for him.” Grandma could see the love in the girl’s eyes.
Although they hadn’t been together long, the elders could see Bubu’s love for Tom.
When she returned to her apartment building around 11 PM, it had started raining. The clouds were low and thick, and the rain was getting heavier.
Without an umbrella, she rushed into the entrance! She shook off the rainwater and luckily wasn’t soaked. Agnes pressed the elevator button and stepped inside, pressing her floor number.
Outside her apartment door, Ansel had been waiting with a bag from a jewelry store for four hours. He originally came to surprise her but hadn’t seen her yet.
From initial excitement and anticipation, he now felt worried, his brow furrowed as he looked out the window.
It’s raining?
Where could she be so late? Could she be in danger?
Just as Ansel took out his phone to call her, the elevator doors opened, and Agnes walked out.
Seeing Ansel startled her.
“My goodness, you’re finally back!” Ansel noticed she didn’t have an umbrella. “Are you okay? Not soaked?”
“Why are you here again?” Agnes looked at him and then went to unlock the door. “Have you been waiting long?”
“At least four hours, my legs are numb.” Ansel said pitifully. “You can’t leave me outside now, can you?”
“Ansel, you don’t need to come looking for me anymore. I’ve been very busy with work lately and don’t have time for you.”
“I don’t need your hospitality; we’re so familiar with each other. I’m not your customer.” After the door opened, he followed her inside. “Did you just get off work?”
Agnes didn’t answer his question and placed her bag on the sofa. “It’s late; you should go back soon.”
“Guess what I did today?” Ansel didn’t catch her tone and cheerfully brought the bag in front of her. “Hey!”
“What is this?” As she asked, Agnes saw the logo on the bag; it was from a jewelry store.
“The prize money from the last competition arrived today. I bought you some gold jewelry-the latest style. Open it and see if you like it.”
“Gold jewelry?” Agnes was shocked and stared at him wide-eyed. “Are you serious? Do you know what these are?”
“Of course! It’s what a man buys for a woman when they get married!” Ansel was particularly happy. “Agnes, let’s spend this money first; I’ll save my future salary to buy a house!”
Agnes was exasperated by his persistence. She crossed her arms and sat heavily on the sofa with a sigh.
“Bubu, consider me? I’ll definitely be a reliable husband!” Ansel gently placed the bag on the coffee table with an unwavering smile on his face.
