Dante’s POV
“Damn it!”
I was close to slamming the phone on the floor. Erica was still ignoring my calls.
I growled and shoved the phone back into my pocket. I was at the hospital and it was a mess. The doctors were running around and the security officers were posted at the door, trying to keep Laura’s dad and the other crazy members of the council out of the hospital.
I looked at my watch. Fuck! It was getting late. What was taking them so long?
I could hear the ruckus that came from outside and the council members violently yelling and demanding that they be allowed inside the hospital.
I scoffed. Those old geezers were not going to come in here until the tests were done.
I pulled out my phone and dialed Erica’s number again. If only she would talk to me. I knew deep down that Laura wasn’t pregnant for me. If only Erica would pick up my calls and I could explain everything to her…
“Dante!”
My ears were pierced by a high-pitched yell. I turned my head around.
Fuck! What was she doing here?
She ran up to me and I wished that I could disappear, or better still, I wished that she could.
“Dante! How dare you? How dare you drag Laura from the council meeting and bring us all to this place. Laura told you already that the child is yours. Isn’t that enough evidence? This is unnecessary!”
I rolled my eyes. My fists were tightly clenched.
“I am not as gullible as you, Pearl. What makes you think that that woman’s word is enough for me? If she really is pregnant, then she should have no probe doing the tests. Now, get off my case. I have no idea how you got in here but if you are going to stay here, I warn you that you should stay out of my way.”
My voice was firm and stern. I didn’t care if she was my sister or not, Pearl was slowly crossing the line and I was more than happy to put her back in her place.
The bewilderment on her face grew exponentially. I saw her fists shake. I ignored her. She wasn’t worth my time anymore. I had more important things to attend to.
I turned away from her and that was when I saw her hand move towards my face.
“You idiot!” She screamed as her hand rushed forward to my face.
I was quick and grabbed it in mid-air. She tried to pull away but I held on to her tightly. My grip tightened and she began to whimper.
“You seem to forget that I am the Alpha of this pack. I have been lenient with you for a while and it seems that you are biting off more than you can chew…”
I lifted my head and saw Robert walking towards me.
I pushed Pearl aside and approached him.
“Alpha,” he said calmly, with a smile on his face. “I must say that you are making quite a scene here. The members of the council are going crazy with fury outside; the head of the council is especially unput together.”
I scoffed. That crazy bastard could hang himself. He was a waste of my time and so was his daughter for this unnecessary stunt she pulled.
I turned away from him and snarled. Part of me was scared as well. What if it was possible that Laura was pregnant for me?
The thought had always been lingering but I pushed it back. Her actions and stubbornness gave me reasons to believe otherwise but it didn’t cancel out the fact that I had been sleeping with her and we never used protection.
Fuck! Ever since I saw Erica here, I swear on my life that I had her in my bed just once and I was drunk at the time. But once is more than enough, isn’t it?
“I hate you, Dante! Why would you touch your own sister?!”
My thoughts were interrupted by my sister’s obnoxious screaming.
I rolled my eyes but Robert seemed to be enjoying himself.
I whipped my head at him.
“You were supposed to be supervising the guards. Why is she here? How did she get in?”
His smirk grew. He had always been rather cold and stone-faced. Today, however, he seemed to be enjoying himself.
“My apologies, Alpha Dante, but the instructions you gave me and the men were not to allow the ‘members of the council’ in the hospital. And your sister isn’t one of them. And I figured that you would be happy to see her.”
I snarled at Robert. I was not in the mood for his wisecracks and jokes. This was serious.
I turned around and fixed my eyes on the hospital ward where Pearl was in.
My thoughts took over me again. What was taking so long? Do pregnancy tests take so long to conduct?
I tuned out Pearl’s screaming and the yells that came from outside. I was interested in knowing the truth and if it turned out that that bitch was lying to me, I would make her pay.
Click!
My heart skipped a beat as I watched the ward door open. Pearl stopped screaming and we both watched the doctor walk out of the room with a grim expression on his face.
My heart skipped a beat.
He walked up to me. In his hands, were some papers. He adjusted his glasses and stared at me with his bright brown eyes. It was unnerving how such a warm color could seem so cold.
“I presume that you are Mr. Dante.”
He had a deep voice and I realized that his torso was muscular and well built and his physique wasn’t hidden by the suit he wore.
“I am,” I said stiffly.
He handed me the papers and took a deep breath.
“Miss Laura isn’t pregnant. She claims however that she was and that you probably caused her to lose the baby but the tests all show that she has never been pregnant. I thought to also let you know that she tried to bribe me to lie to you and manipulate the results but I refused to do so.”
My hands shook in fury as I read the papers that were in my hands. My anger began to rise steadily. That bitch!
I nearly crumpled the paper but I stopped myself.
Why was I angry in the first place? I didn’t want her bearing my child and that is exactly what I got.
My fury ebbed away slowly.
Erica. I had to tell Erica.
I heard the door creak open and Laura came out with tears in her eyes.
She ran up to me and began to beat my chest angrily.
“You scum bag! I hate you! You did this to me! You made me lose my child, our child! You are a monster!”
I looked at her without pity or mercy. Her futile and weak hits felt like I was being hit with a handkerchief.
I soon had enough and pushed her away.
My green eyes glowered at her and she began to tremble.
“You are a liar and cheat! You did all this and for what?!”
I clenched my fists again. I was fighting to keep my wolf under control.
“Once, you get home, I want you to pack your things and leave. Even if I did love you, a liar can never be my wife!”
I stormed away. Pearl was silent and Robert was just as quiet with that unnerving smirk on his face.
The hospital staff made sure to stay out of my way as I walked down the hallway.
My furious aura encircled me like a fiery halo. The only comfort I thought in my mind was calling Erica and telling her about it, telling her that Laura was lying and that there was nothing between us.
I stormed out of the hospital and past the counselors. They all fell silent and watched me as I walked to my car.
I soon heard footsteps behind me and and before I knew it, the head of the Council, Laura’s father, was standing right in front of me.
“Dante, where is my daughter?!”
I glared at him. My anger was bubbling and I was fighting to keep myself under control.
“Tell her to get out of my house and my life,” I said coldly, tossing the test results in his face.
He looked at me stunned and I didn’t say another word. I got into my car and drove off.
