Rosalind feared this the most.
So, she always insisted that Jake cover his own expenses abroad, including paying Malcolm a portion of his salary each month.
If he didn’t agree, she wouldn’t let Malcolm take care of Jake.
Even so, she still felt that she was holding Malcolm back from his future.
“Malcolm, you need to live your own life. You can’t keep revolving around me.”
Tilda overheard and sighed as she walked over. “Rosalind, just let him do it. No one will think badly of you. We all know how he is! Even his parents can’t persuade him.”
“…”
“Yes, I feel fulfilled and happy taking care of Jake! If you don’t let me stay by his side, I’ll feel like I’ve lost my purpose in life.” Malcolm struggled to express himself.
He had known for years that Rosalind would never be with him.
But sometimes giving becomes a habit. Over the years, he had truly grown accustomed to it, treating Jake as his own child.
Malcolm even thought that as long as Jake was around, he wouldn’t need to have a child of his own.
“Malcolm, your parents only have one son. If you won’t think about yourself, at least consider them! What will they do?”
“…”
Malcolm had thought about it but couldn’t convince himself to accept any other woman.
“Forget it, Rosalind. Let my brother come with us!”
Rosalind looked at Tilda. “But…”
“I’ll talk to him privately.” Tilda patted her shoulder, signaling her not to waste time on this. If they were leaving Northville City, they needed to leave quickly.
Avoiding Ulric was the most crucial thing right now.
“Alright.”
Rosalind knew this wasn’t something that could be resolved quickly; Malcolm had to come to terms with it himself.
Rosalind began packing while Tilda played with the two children.
As night fell, Malcolm arrived in someone else’s car.
“We can go now. This car belongs to a friend; no one should be able to trace it!”
“Okay.” Rosalind held a sleeping Floyd and hurried into the car with Jake by her side.
Tilda made sure there was nothing left in the house before sitting in the front passenger seat.
Jake had been engrossed in his phone since they got into the car.
No one could understand what he was looking at-just a bunch of data-but he seemed fascinated by it.
“Jake, what are you looking at?” Rosalind couldn’t help but ask.
Jake finally looked up. “W Group’s data! Mom, look, these are the recent expenses from the project department, and here is the return rate.”
This time Rosalind took a closer look at the numbers on the screen.
“Why are you looking at these?”
“I’m trying to find vulnerabilities in W Group! I don’t believe they don’t have any weaknesses.”
Jake had analyzed countless companies before and always found something. He refused to believe W Group was flawless.
“Jake, stop focusing on W Group.”
“But they bullied you! Mom, I want to protect you!”
Just as Rosalind was about to respond, her phone rang suddenly.
She glanced down-
The number looked very familiar.
It was Ulric.
