Nelson frowned.
Half an hour later, Callie finally explained everything clearly. “It’s daylight now. I don’t know if Regan has been rescued. If yesterday’s incident affected her, I would feel very guilty, you understand!”
Nelson understood and handed her the phone. “Go ahead.”
His casual demeanor made Callie uncomfortable. “I… I’ll call Jaquan…”
He nodded.
She quickly grabbed the phone and dialed a number. The other side answered quickly, “Callie! Are you okay?”
Callie, wary of Nelson’s gaze, turned slightly. “I’m fine. Has Regan been rescued?”
“I’ve already talked to Sienna. She’ll help. We’ll get her out today.”
Hearing this, Callie felt relieved.
“Make sure to give me an update.”
Before hanging up, Jaquan stopped her, “You… are really okay…”
Nelson’s eyes were intense.
Under the pressure, Callie hung up directly.
Afterward, she didn’t want to talk, and Nelson didn’t speak to her either. He had someone bring new clothes, all brand names, pristine.
Looking at these expensive items, Callie said mockingly, “Do you think I’m a canary in a gilded cage?”
Not only that, Nelson also brought in a famous internist to check on Callie’s injuries from the car accident.
Nelson personally oversaw the series of examinations and gave strict orders, “Absolutely no lasting effects!”
“The injuries aren’t severe. With some rest, she’ll recover.”
Callie couldn’t take it anymore. “Nelson, why are you keeping me here? Just to compensate me? What’s the point?”
When Nelson wanted to be, he could be very amiable.
So he said nothing, letting Callie’s anger hit a wall of silence, then sat aside and sulked.
Watching Callie’s angry face gave Nelson a humble sense of satisfaction.
It was enough. Just being with her like this was enough, as long as she was by his side.
Callie realized that getting angry played into his hands. It wasn’t worth it. She thought for a moment and made a request, “If you want to compensate me, can you help Jaquan rescue Regan?”
Nelson lifted an eyebrow. “Right after your call, I sent someone.”
Callie was surprised.
But he still wouldn’t let her go, seemingly afraid she would disappear again for two months.
Callie was on the verge of collapse. She couldn’t contact the outside world and was very worried about Regan.
Until the afternoon when she found an opportunity. Nelson went out for business and locked the door.
The door had a code lock, and there might be someone guarding outside.
Callie looked at the code lock, her palms sweating with tension, knowing this might be her only chance.
The code lock would automatically lock after three incorrect attempts. She didn’t dare to input randomly. After thinking for a moment, she entered Nelson’s birthday-incorrect code.
Callie forced herself to stay calm; naturally, Nelson wouldn’t use her birthday either.
She paced back and forth, a flash of inspiration hitting her mind. The next second, she cursed herself for being too naive.
If she got it wrong again, there would be one last chance.
Callie felt an urge. She bent down, her pretty face reflected on the clean door handle.
Beep-
The door opened.
Callie stood frozen in place; she couldn’t believe the code actually worked.
Her heart pounded uncontrollably.
It took her a while to react. She opened the door and peeked out; there was no one outside.
Was Nelson so confident she couldn’t crack the code lock?
