“I did not think that you would help me out,” Harper said to Green with a smile on her face. She had called him about a week ago to tell him that Ophelia and Cade were now locked in. Green had been so angry about it. He waited years for Ophelia, only for her to end up Cade. He had expected that he could pull them apart, but now he was hearing that she was together with Cade and they loved each other now.
When they kept telling the public that they were deeply locked in, he could tell that she was doing this just because her father asked her to do it. He waited, hoping that there would be a time when they went their separate ways and then he would swoop in to save the damsel in distress.
“I refuse to lose to Cade.”
“I like how you think,” Harper said, and her phone began to ring. She took up her phone and stared at the screen. “Ophelia is calling me?” She murmured, looking at the screen, her eyes growing wide and wider.
“What are you waiting for? Pick it up,” Green urged her.
“I should?” She asked shocked that he would think she should pick up the call from Ophelia. She slid her hand over the screen of the phone and put it on speakerphone before dropping it to the table in front of her.
“What do I owe the pleasure to?” She asked as if she was not aware of the reason she was calling. She knew they were going to trace it to her, but she did not believe that it would have been Ophelia to be the first to catch on.
“You did this, didn’t you?”
“Did what?” Harper asked, trying to play innocent. “What could I have done to a woman like you who is not on my level?”
“I thought you claimed to love Cade.”
“Are you questioning my love for Cade?”
“I am not,” Ophelia let out angrily as she tried to control her anger. “I am not,” she said after taking a long breath. “I am not saying that; I am just wondering how someone like you would say with your mouth that you love Cade and then you would go around and hurt him so deeply.”
“If I am not with him, why do you think you can be with him and be happy?” Harper asked.
“Oh, so you are shallow and small-minded?” Ophelia asked.
“How dare you say that to me?”
“It is not as if I am lying; I am just starting the facts.”
“You like to act like you are superior when all you are after is being the madam of the Vale house.”
“Oh, please,” Ophelia scoffed. “I am a Frost and the only heir to the empire; I do not need Cade to inherit all of that.”
“Then can you leave him alone and marry someone else?”
“No!” Ophelia said it without thinking.
“See that? You are just selfish, but you are acting all good; divorce Cade and marry someone else.”
“Okay,” Ophelia let out a laugh. “I would be into doing that, but let us say that I do, then what happens? Do you marry him? What do you bring to help him? What do you do to make all of this go away?”
“Hmm…”
“I thought as much,” Ophelia said. “You have nothing to offer, and yet you still want so much from him.”
“I can give him much more than you.”
“I will advise you to get a good lawyer ready because I would be suing you.”
“You have no case.”
“Not yet, but I can assure you that I would get more than enough to make a case,” Ophelia explained.
“You are only barking; there would be no bite,” Harper said. She did not like the sound of the threat, but who could she let Ophelia make her feel intimidated? She had someone by her side to help her out as well.
“Also say hi to Green for me and tell him that I am very disappointed that he had to go this low.”
“Green? What do you mean?”
“You did not think that I would be foolish to think you did this all by yourself?” Ophelia asked. Oh, please, I know that you do not have that kind of connection,” she added.
What? You got it all wrong,” Harper stuttered.
“See you both in court.”
Ophelia was glad that she was able to get through and knew that they were both behind it; she went to see Cade at his office.
“I know who did this,” she said as she opened the door of the office and stepped in.
“Ophelia,” Cade said with a smile. He stood up quickly from his desk and ignored Sue, who had been taking orders from him and he walked right to Ophelia, wrapping his hand around her and pulling her in.
“I know who did this,” she murmured in his chest.
“Harper and Green?”
“How do you know?”
“The first blog to take on the news was the private blog belonging to Green, and Harper is the only person outside of my family that knows that piece of information, so I put two and two together and figured that one out,” he added, releasing her a bit.
“Are you okay?” she asked, searching his face.
“Of course,” he said, nodding, and she smiled at him.
“So what are you going to do?”
“Have lunch with you since you showed up here,” he said, letting go of her and walking to the jacket hanger to get his suit jacket. “We will get back on it as soon as I come back from lunch.”
Ophelia could not understand why he was so unbothered about it; the PR department had been able to block off the reporters, but everyone was waiting to see what he would do about the situation. “You want to eat ln in this situation?”
“Of course, I am so hungry, and worrying is not going to fix anything.”
“Of course it would not, but I know just the thing that might,” Charles said coming into the room.
“Grandpa? What are you doing here?”
“How can I sit on my hands when someone is trying to taint the image of my successor?” Charles responded.
“We cannot let that happen,” Cael said, coming in behind Charles.
“Grandpa? What is he doing here?” Cade asked, shocked at his brother and Charles walking together.
“He is on our side now; he will be helping us out,” Charles announced.
“And you trust him?” Cade asked, shocked at his grandfather.
“Of course I do,” Charles said. “Let us stop talking about who we trust and who we do not and talk about what we can do.”
“Grandpa, tell us.” Ophelia couldn’t care less about who wanted to help them; all she cared about was getting the help they needed.
“Do you promise to do what I ask?” Charles asked, facing Cade and Ophelia.
“Of course?” Ophelia said before Cade could respond.
“Then the best thing to do is accept the rumours and embrace them.”
“Grandpa?” the three of them chroused.
“What else do you think we can do? I would make you the chairman by all means.”
