The bedroom door opened from the outside while Hannah lay on the bed. Alden rushed in, visibly anxious. Without a word, he hugged Hannah tightly, showering her with kisses. Hannah only smiled faintly and stroked her husband’s cheek.
“Edward told me you had to be picked up by the driver. He said you weren’t feeling well. Why didn’t you tell me, Hannah? If it wasn’t for Edward, I wouldn’t have known anything,” Alden rambled.
“Hm… why couldn’t Edward keep his mouth shut,” Hannah sighed softly. “I’m fine, just a little tired.”
“We’re going to the hospital now.”
Hannah shook her head, locking her gaze on Alden.
“I just need to go to bed earlier. Really, don’t worry about me,” Hannah whispered.
Alden stared back profoundly. He didn’t like how Hannah always downplayed her own health. But the more he insisted, the more likely Hannah would resist.
“Is work too much for you, babe? Do you need another assistant?” Alden asked.
Hannah shook her head again. “There’s nothing for you to worry about. This has nothing to do with work.”
“Then what?”
For a moment, Hannah stayed silent. She didn’t want to tell Alden about Sarah suddenly showing up at the office. That would cause more drama, and Alden would only become more stressed. She didn’t want Alden worrying about trivial things. Hannah could handle it.
“Hannah? Babe? What’s the matter?” Alden asked again.
“Nothing.” Hannah forced a smile. “I was just thinking… maybe I’m this tired because my mind’s been too focused on our household stuff.”
“But our marriage is fine, Hannah.”
“I know. It’s just… I still feel a little anxious, you know?”
Alden nodded. “I’ll make sure Sarah doesn’t bother you or mess with our happiness. I promise.”
Then Alden pulled Hannah into his arms and held her tight. His breath brushed against the back of her neck, making her giggle. He started kissing her shoulder gently, slowly nibbling.
“Alden, stop it…” Hannah said softly.
“I’m sorry.” Alden released her and stroked her chin. “I forgot you’re not feeling well. Rest up, babe. I’ll go freshen up and be back to keep you company.”
Hannah chuckled. “Alright, love.”
Alden headed to the bathroom, leaving Hannah to lie back down. While she browsed the internet on her phone, Susan sent her a message.
“What happened earlier? Did you slap that shameless woman?” Susan asked.
Hannah chuckled softly. “Of course not. Why are your thoughts so wild?”
“I’m just mad she had the nerve to come to Texco. Still, it could give the office a bad reputation, and you too. As an ex-girlfriend, Sarah Young should know her place.”
“Settle down, Susan.”
“So, did you tell your husband? About Sarah?”
Hannah quickly typed back, “No.”
“Why? He deserves to know that his ex is a bit psycho. She should be kicked out of Summerhill.”
“I suddenly felt sick, so the driver had to take me home. I couldn’t drive.”
Susan’s reply came in a flash.
“You’re sick? What happened? Have you been to the hospital? Want me to go with you?”
“No. I’m fine now. Just a little dizzy.”
“Dizzy? But lately, your face has looked a bit pale. I think there’s more to this than just Sarah stressing you out. You should get checked out, Hannah.”
Hannah frowned, not entirely understanding Susan’s concern.
“Go see a doctor soon. I’ve never been married, but some of the women at the office who experienced the same symptoms found out they were pregnant.”
Hannah’s eyes widened, her body tingling with sudden realization.
“You think I’m pregnant?” she asked, just to be sure.
“Get checked, Hannah. I’m no fortune teller. I’m just going off my coworkers’ experiences. Who knows, maybe you’re expecting.”
“Should I tell Alden about this?”
“That’s up to you. But surprising him sounds fun. Keep it a secret until you’re sure, Hannah. Your husband will be overjoyed when he finds out you’re pregnant.”
“Alright. Thanks, Susan.”
“Okay. Get some rest.”
Their conversation ended, and Hannah became curious. She couldn’t help but imagine how happy Alden would be if she was pregnant. But first, she needed to see a doctor to confirm.
Alden soon exited the bathroom and slipped under the covers, wrapping his arms around Hannah from behind. Hannah’s heart raced, her mind eager to tell him, but she followed Susan’s advice.
“Why do you look so bashful?” Alden asked.
“Nothing,” Hannah chuckled softly. “I just feel happy, that’s all.”
“You’re such a tease. If you keep this up, you’ll regret it because I’ll…”
“Wait,” Hannah interrupted. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
Alden adjusted his pillow, and Hannah turned to face him.
“I met with my stepmother yesterday,” Hannah began.
“Yeah, and?”
“Well, she asked if Jeffrey could be given a job. I explained everything to her, but Jeffrey is desperate for work, babe.” Hannah gazed intently at Alden. “I told Francesca maybe Jeffrey could work at Giantic. Is that possible?”
Alden paused for a moment.
“I think it would be difficult at Giantic. Besides, the work system at Goldtime is quite different from Texco. Jeffrey wouldn’t fit in there.”
“Then what’s your suggestion?”
“If you don’t mind, how about bringing Jeffrey back to Texco? He was actually competent there.”
Hannah frowned slightly. Was bringing Jeffrey back to Texco a wise move? Personally, she didn’t mind, but she dreaded another public clash with Aspen. Unless Francesca and Jeffrey could keep Aspen in check.
Still, Hannah suspected Aspen was cozying up to Sarah now.
“I’ll think about it,” Hannah said.
“It must be hard for your stepmother, with her son-in-law and daughter out of work. Especially with a baby on the way,” Alden murmured. “I understand they must be really desperate.”
“I guess so.”
Alden hugged Hannah and kissed her forehead. “So, when are we going to have a baby? I want to hold a tiny, sweet-smelling hand with eyes as beautiful as yours.”
“Perhaps… soon?” Hannah grinned, flashing her teeth.
“Whenever it happens, I’ll be ready. I can’t wait for a little Alden and Hannah junior.”
