VIKTOR
“Alpha Donald,” Maxwell calls. “Can you please tell us the events that led up to this trial?”
“Um… okay,” Donald says before taking a breath. “I… I as well as some other wolves, including Alpha Viktor had gone on what was said to be a fact finding mission about the Winter Wolf Coalition but what was in actuality an ambush. When he, I mean alpha Viktor found out the truth, he tried to leave and a fight broke out. His wolves were… impressive and with him managed to take down all of us.
“I… I had fallen into a ditch in an attempt to escape and had later woken up in some human’s house. I thanked them and began making my way back to my pack when this wolf over here,” he says pointing at Tommy. “… Came across me. I recognized him as a wolf from the Obsidian pack and he also recognized me. At first, he had said he was going to help me back to my pack but when I had refused, he… he knocked me out.”
“When I came to, I was tied up and under a tree. He had stopped for the night. I demanded that he let me go but he refused. In fact, he didn’t even respond. He shows no respect to my person. When I told him he wouldn’t get away with it, he said no one would care. That everyone believed I was dead anyway and that him catching me would make his alpha, that is alpha Dominic, happy ”
“We continued our journey and when we got closer to his pack, he got… complacent. I managed to escape and run, with him changing after me, and I somehow found myself in the Vale pack territory where I eventually passed out due to dehydration. When I woke, I was in the pack clinic, with alpha Viktor and the Coali8lewder, Rowan watching me. They are the ones who filled me up on what has happened so far and also contacted my mate and the rest of you.”
“Thank you, aloha Donald,” Maxwell says into the ensuing silence before turning to both I and Rowan. “Is there anything you would like to add to his statement?” He asks.
“No, that was it,” I say.
“Okay then. Can you please tell all of us here how you came to get hold of the wolf named Tommy?”
“Sure. While we were still with Alpha Donald,” I begin. “I got a message from my beta that they had gotten a wolf who was trying to sneak into my territory and had been locked up in the dungeons. Upon my investigation, I realized he was the wolf who had chased after Alpha Donald and from what I could understand, he seems to have done this under the impression that his alpha would have approved. Once I realized the gravity of the crime and how this was not in my jurisdiction to act, I called the council to come hold a trial.”
“Thank you, Alpha Viktor. Alpha Dominic,” Maxwell calls. “Is there anything you would like to add?”
“Yes,” he says as he squares his shoulder. “It is true, I had sent my wolves to go investigate the recent disappearances of the wolves, hoping to find out what had really happened. Tommy is indeed my subordinate and was one of those that had been sent out. But as for the fact that he kidnapped an alpha, I had no idea. I had given no such instructions and I had only found out about this yesterday when one of my wolves reported it to me. That is why I was here this morning. To understand what has happened. I had no idea that a council for trial had even called.”
That is such a tactful way of throwing your trusted subordinate under the bus.
A glance at Rowan smirking at him tells me she is thinking the same.
It doesn’t matter what he says, if he denies it, he is fucked if he doesn’t, he is still fucked.
Really, this was such a wonderful gift, and the fact that it fell in our laps just barely a day after the council makes it even better.
This trial, in addition to the way he behaved in the meeting, will do wonders in causing people to lose faith in him.
“I see,” Maxwell says before turning to the chained wolf. “We shall now question the accused. Tommy of the Obsidian pack.”
We all look towards Tommy who has been scowling at us since we started.
“Did you or did you not abduct Alpha Donald with the intention of presenting him to your alpha.”
“My alpha had no idea what I was doing,” he snarls.
Hmm, Rowan was right.
He would never turn against Dominic.
“But yet, you were going to present him to your alpha as… wha?”
“I was taking him back to my pack so he would be kept safe from attacks.”
“Okay, what attacks? From who? Why did you tie him up then? Why didn’t you let him go when he asked? Why not take him to his pack instead?”
“I… I don’t think it was safe.”
“From who?”
“From those dirty bastards. The rogues.”
“Alpha Donald, is this true?” Maxwell asks
“Of course, not. The bastard didn’t even ask what really happened that day. He just knocked me out.”
“So, you are lying,” Maxwell says. “On to the next count. You are accused of hitting and attacking an alpha. What do you have to say about that?”
“I… I didn’t know he was going to pass out! It is not my fault he is so weak!”
Oh, boy.
Kaylee bristles at the insult before turning to Maxwell
“What are you still waiting for?!” She snarls. “The wretch clearly has no remorse.”
“One last thing,” he says. “Tommy. Do you or do you not know of the laws that state you cannot attack an alpha, except you are in a war, in a duel, or in training?”
“I… I didn’t… it….”
“It is a simple question. Did you know of the law, yes or no?”
“I…”
If he says yes, then it is clear that he flouted it with no remorse, if he says no, then the blame and shame would rest on Dominic for not teaching his wolves correctly and the punishment would be worse.
It is a tough voice.
Nevertheless…
“I… I did.”
“Hmm. Then the sentence is clear. For attacking an alpha unprovoked and disrespecting the laid down rules and traditions, you are sentenced to death. Who will be dealing the killing blow?”
“I will,” Kaylee says as she walks forward, her claws stretching as she does so.
Rather than looking at Tommy, she stares straight at Dominic, giving him a manic smile as she raises her claws and slashes down.
It is a clean cut and I watch dispassionately as his head falls off his body and rolls across the floor.
Hmm.
That was… less cathartic than I thought it would be.
Next time, I would rather do the killing.
