VALE PACK
“Welcome back, Alpha!”
“Welcome home!”
“Thank the goddess, you are safe!”
“We feared the worst!”
“The Alpha is back! Alpha Viktor is back!”
On and on it went, as different members of the pack came up to welcome me back to the pack.
A month
I have been away for a month.
And it feels like a lifetime
“Welcome home, Alpha,” Andre greets me warmly as we head up to my wing.
“Thank you, Andre. I missed it.”
“Hmm, I am sure you did. And what of our Luna? When will we be welcoming her?”
I sigh heavily at the question.
I have been doing my best not to think about Rowan since I left.
I feared that if I did, I would turn back and make a nuisance of myself
“Alpha?”
“I don’t know, Andre. We didn’t exactly part on the best of terms.”
“What happened?” He asks with concern as he holds open the door to my room.
It is a large space, one that I am occasionally embarrassed about
My room, or should I say, my suit, contains a double sized, king bed, right at the center, with a six feet long wardrobe that takes up the whole wall. On the other side is a small living room, with cream sofas, a black and white table centered upon a faux tiger striped carpet.
Ahead of it is my bathroom that features multiple pressured showers from different angles and a large jacuzzi.
It is vain, I know.
But we deserve it.
Our wealth
Unlike most packs, who get their funds from providing certain services in the town or having investment shares, the Vale pack has its own conglomerate, one run by me and where many of the wolves also work at.
We are rich and we show it.
I wonder what Rowan would think of it.
“Alpha?”
“Right,” I say as I bring myself back to the present. “What were you saying?”
“I asked what happened between you two? Why did she not come with you?”
“She kicked me out,” I answer as I head over to my bed and collapsed on it
Oh, goddess, I have missed it
“She… kicked you …out? Why? Wait… don’t tell me she found out by herself. I told you to tell her.”
“I was going to!” I snap. “And this is partially your fault,” I retort
“My fault?! What did I do?”
“I told you to take all the wolves. All of them. Why would you let Dan stay behind?”
“I- it was for reconnaissance. Don’t tell me he blew your cover.”
“He did. And I couldn’t even fix it.”
“Damn. Now what? Didn’t you try to explain?”
“It was too late. She wasn’t willing to listen.”
“And you gave up?!” He exclaims.
“No. No, I didn’t give up. I haven’t given up. I just… I need time to plan. To figure out how to break her walls. Force, it won’t work on her. I need a way to make her see that I am genuine towards her. That… that I love her.”
“Wow. That… you… love her. Well, of course you do. She is your mate, after all.”
“Yes, she is. But for now, tell me what has happened so far. What is that moron, up to now?”
“By moron, you mean Dominik?”
“Do you know any other moron?”
“Plenty.”
“Right, of course you do. Do you know any other person I call a moron?”
“Only one.”
“Andre…”
“Fine. Fine, where do I start?”
“From the beginning,” I tell him in a deadpan tone.
“Well, he started making his move the moment you all went in. I mean, he kept on calling the packs, trying to get in touch with the Alphas and such. After a while, he sent out spies. We saw some if them, hovering a few meters from the boundary line-”
“Did you capture them?”
“No. They weren’t getting anything, and I figured they would give up and I was right. After I got back from seeing you, I found out that he tried reaching out to us, but was rebuffed. A few days later, I got from the spies that he has been in contact with some of the packs, gathering a following to go demand answers from the coalition. Now that you are here, you can put a stop to that.”
“How much of a following?”
“A forty percent following. The others aren’t willing to trust a man who turns out members of his pack because of his own failure to train them.”
“Hmm… reach out to those ones. The ones who aren’t with him. Tell them I would like to have a meeting with them. Also, get in touch with the Alphas if the Grange, Sky and Indigo packs, ask them for a meeting too.”
“And Dominik?”
“He can make a fool of himself for as long as he wants. But he cannot attack the coalition. I won’t let him, even if I have to kill him myself.”
“I am fine with that,” he says with a smile.
“Of course, you are. I don’t get why people think I am the ruthless, psychotic one. You clearly are the one they should be wary of.”
“Me?! I am a darling.”
“You are a deranged killing machine that wears a charming smile, hereby deceiving everyone that comes around you. It is your reputation that stains me.”
“I am not the one who massacred his way through three scores of rogues nor am I the one who survived goddess knows how many attacks that finally led you to your mate.”
“Hmm… why don’t we have a duel, see who is more ruthless,” I say as I get to my feet and stretch.
“No, thank you,” he says as she quickly heads to the door and walks out, leaving me to my thoughts which eventually center back in Rowan.
“Don’t worry, my love,” I mutter quietly. “You are not alone anymore.”
