VIKTOR.
“Hey, where are you going?”
I turn around to see who the voice belongs to and I recognize him as one of the patrol wolves.
I am standing at the gates about to walk out when he walks up to me.
“Out,” I respond with irritation.
I don’t mean to be rude.
In fact, I applaud his dedication and awareness.
But there is a wolf out there that threatens the peace of my mate and my Alpha genes are demanding I tear him apart.
My patience to handle any other person is close to snapping.
“Do you have permission?”
No, I do not.
“Yes, from the Guia herself.”
“I am going to confirm it.”
“Sure. Let her know that I am also going to pick up another batch of fries too.”
“Sure, whatever.”
I wait as he walks a few feet and dials the number.
I don’t bother listening to the conversation and it comes as no surprise when he hands me the phone.
“For you ”
“Hello,” I say as I take the phone from him.
“What are you doing, you crazy man.”
“Nothing,” I reply. “I am just going to pick up more fries. The one we got is already cold.”
“You are going to search for the man, aren’t you?”
“And how would I do that? I don’t even know what he looks like or smells like. You wouldn’t tell me, remember?”
“Louis…” she whines.
“I promise. I am not going to bring any problems to you. I swear it.”
“Fine. Hand the phone to Gaines.”
“Who is Gaines?”
“The patrol wolf,” she answers dryly and I can just imagine her rolling her eyes at me.
“Right. Here you go,” I say, handing it back to the wolf.
A few seconds later, he gives me a nod and returns to his patrolling and I am let through the gate.
I consider changing into my wolf form but I realize I would have no clothes to change back into, so I settle for running at top speed across the town and towards the border.
Unsurprisingly, I arrive there first and I take the time to center my thoughts and think through my plan.
It doesn’t take long, -probably less than five minutes- for me to hear the racing footsteps heading this way and then slowing down behind me.
“Alpha, you called,” Andre’s voice sounds.
“Hmm, I did,” I say, turning only to stop short at the sight of him. “What were you doing?!”
“Oh, this?” He asks as he takes a look at himself. “I and teg wolves are staying in a circus until we leave, so we had to dress the part”
He is dressed in the most colorful, ghastly striped pants I have ever seen with a neon colored shirt and the ugliest pair of boots known to man. His hair is slicked back with what I am convinced is engine oil and there is white chalk painted all over his face.
“Is your part that of a clown?”
“Yeah, how did you guess?” He asks with a mock look that quickly vanishes at the narrowed eye I give him. “It’s not my fault. This is the most acceptable costume they had.”
I wince at that.
What could be worse than this?
“Why are you staying in a circus?” I ask instead.
“There are no cameras in a circus. We have all been doing our best to avoid all cameras and what not, wouldn’t want to leave anything to chance.”
“Hmm, that makes sense.”
“It does! Because after you guys left that day, one of the wolves returned asking about our whereabouts?”
“Really?”
“Hmm. He had one of the town council members track all the newcomers’ movements and give him the tape.”
That must have been Alden.
“But don’t worry. He won’t find any of us on there. We are good.”
“Good. That is good.”
“How long do you plan on staying here anyway?”
“As long as I want to. I don’t call you here to question me, I have orders for you.”
“You are going to head back to the pack. Have our spies find out which of the packs lost a female wolf in the past five years.”
“What?”
“It should be around the town of a wedding. It didn’t hold.”
“Um, alpha…”
“Then once discovered, you are going to find out if any of those packs are among those who had recently come into town, okay?”
“No! Not okay!” He exclaims with an aggrieved look.
“Why not?!”
“Seriously?! You are asking that?! Do you not know how many packs are in existence? And not only that, you want us to find out something that they would have most probably hidden. Come on! Why don’t you just kill me, already!”
“I can do that if it is what you wish.”
“Viktor!”
“Find them. I want the name of the man she was supposed to marry. I want to know everything about him. His movements, what he’s eats, who his friends are, his position, where he sleeps, how many times he uses the toilet, everything.”
“Wow. That is… intense. what did he do?”
“He messed with the wrong she wolf.”
“I see. Would you like me to kill him?”
“No, he is mine.”
“Good enough. So, tell me. What is our future Luna like?”
“She is great. Smart, beautiful, strong, she is everything.”
“Sounds like a woman who doesn’t take nonsense,” he remarks.
“She really doesn’t,” I concur.
“Or betrayal.”
Ah.
“When are you going to tell her who you are? I get that you want to get to know her but what about her, she is knowing a lie.”
“It is not a lie. Apart from telling her who I am, everything else is true.”
“No. She knows Louis, the rogue with all its skills. That all changes when she sees you as Viktor.”
“It doesn’t have to.”
“But it will. But you know that, deep down you do. So, I won’t bother you about it. Is there anything else you need?”
“Yeah, money.”
“What? What for?”
“I need to get some fries.”
