ROWAN
“What was that?!” I mutter to myself as I speed walk into my study. “What the hell was that?!”
The image replays in my head again.
Me leaning over to lick his face.
“That was practically a kiss!”I whine out. “Why couldn’t you just control yourself?!”
My wolf remains quiet, but I can sense a satisfied, smug hum coming from her.
Is there a way to beat up your wolf without hurting yourself? I really need to know.
Louis’s look of delighted surprise flashes through my eyes again and I practically collapse to the floor In a petulant whine.
He would think he has a chance now!
“Why do you keep getting me in trouble you-”
I don’t get to finish the sentence because the door opens at that moment to let in both Rina and Lisa.
“Hey,”Rina’s concerned voice calls out. “Are you okay?” she asks as she comes to kneel before me.
She is still the kind, pure hearted woman that had pulled me out of the river all those years ago.
“Yeah, are you?” Lisa adds. “We need to know before we can mock you for what happened on the field.”
Lisa on the other hand, is still the same ball bursting, hope destroying, pessimistic asshole that she has always been.
“Can’t you be nice, just once is your wretched life?” I scoff at her as I get to my feet.
“And miss the opportunity to tease you with such prime material? No way.”
I grunt as I walk past, ignoring her awful smile as I head to my seat.
“How are the wolves reacting to… it?” I ask as I take my seat.
“Everyone is trying to pretend they had seen nothing,” Rina answers.
“Trying?” I pick on the word.
“It is proving difficult thanks to Jhnelle,” she adds.
“What did Jhenelle do now?” I ask with a groan and a little trepidation.
“She is going around asking everybody why mummy kissed Louis,” Lisa answers with a shit eating grin. “She doesn’t seem so much disturbed by the fact that you locked him more than why it was him you licked. I think your daughter is in love with him,” she finishes.
“Don’t be ridiculous, she is five.”
“Old enough to have a crush,” she retorts.
“Get out,” I tell her as I throw a place holder at her head which she easily dodges.
“Don’t get mad, I am just stating facts.”
“Stop pissing her off, Lisa,” Rina says as she pushes her out of the way to take her seat on the desk right in front of me Before leaning close to me. “So, how did it feel?”
“How did what feel?”I ask as I lean away from her manic gaze.
“Kissing your mate.”
“I didn’t kiss him.”
“You licked his face.”
“My wolf locked his wolf’s face, not me. And that wasn’t a kiss.”
“I am pretty sure that is how wolves kiss,” Lisa remarks from her perch on the couch.
“You-”
“Okay, okay,” Rina interrupts me before changing the subject. “Fine, we will agree to disagree. But what about the spar? How was it? What is your opinion?” she asks.
“He is good,”I say, grateful for the change in subject. “Very good. I believe he is definitely an alpha?”
“Because he fought well?”
“Because of his strength,” I say. “His power, his speed. A wolf can train for as long as he wants but he can’t compare to the innate talent of an Alpha.”
“Except from you.”
“Except from me.”
When I had shown my wolf to some of the other rogues, a few >f the experienced ones were convinced that I had Alpha blood and despite my refutes and claims, they still believe it.
I know for a fact that my parents were just warriors of the pack, none of them never claimed any ties to any alphas, so unless I was kidnapped as a baby, there is just no way I have Alpha blood.
And yet, I have always kept up with most of the alphas I have tangled with.
Not killed them but given them enough pause to think twice about coming at us.
The only alpha I have killed is the one that ruled the pack here before we took over.
None of them were able to keep up, except for Louis.
He matched me blow for blow, speed for speed, and he knew exactly how to move and use his skills to his advantage.
“Do you still think he is pretending to have lost his memory?” Rina asks, bringing me back to the present.
“Hmm, I don’t know. I am not sure anymore. He seems to have a ready answer for every loophole I find in his armor. He can’t be that well prepared, right?”
“Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he is a really good actor,” Lisa says.
“What kind of alpha has the time to play like this anyway?” Rina wonders.
“Exactly!” I say. “He has a pack. If his memories were intact why would he still be here?*
“Maybe he is doing this for you,” Lisa supplies.
“For me?”
“Yep.”
“Why?”
“You are Hai mate, are you not? And you didn’t seem too excited to have him. He might be staying here to win you over.”
“And his pack?” I add. “What about running his pack? Isn’t he worried there might be a coup? How can he be so relaxed here?!
“Yeah, I don’t know about that. Maybe he is very confident in the loyalty of his members. Who knows?”
“Ugh!” I groan as I place my head on the table. “This is giving me a headache. He is giving me a headache. Ever since he came here, my peace has fled.”
“Aawn, don’t be like that,” Rina says as she oats my head. “I am sure once you give in to your mate bond everything will settle down.”
“I-”
I am once again interrupted but this time by a knock.
“Come in,” I call out and watch with a pit in my stomach as Louis enters.
Great.
Just what I needed.
