DOMINIC
OBSIDIAN PACK.
“What do you mean you can’t find them?!” I snap as I fling the placeholder at the wolf before me. “How do large numbers of wolves just up and vanish and no one has a clue?!”
“They covered their tracks well,” he responds, his head bowed low.
“Not well enough that we didn’t find out about them. Have you figured out who was involved? What they were involved in?”
“They were the Alphas of some of the packs in the west. We also discovered that they had a few meetings with Alpha Viktor -”
“Viktor? They met up with Viktor?! What for?!”
“We… we don’t know, Alpha.”
“Useless… you are all useless,” I snap. “Get out!”
They all scramble out of my office like a bunch of spineless mutts.
Viktor.
Why is it always him?
It was purely coincidence that I had found out that some of the Alphas were planning an attack.
In none other Than the Winter Wolf Coalition.
I had reached out to them, offering my assistance but they had brushed me off.
“… there is no such plan, Alpha Dominic…”
“… where did you hear this…”
“… your enthusiasm for righteousness is admirable but…”
All of them, every single one had rebuffed me, played me for a fool.
Like I had nothing to offer.
And yet, they go after Viktor, that…
I offered my help!
But they would rather beg him?!
The audacity
And now, there is no word on them.
I know they moved, but there is just no repeat on where they are.
None of the packs are saying anything and I am left going crazy on my own.
“You are spiraling again,” a voice says as the door swings opened and Clarisse walks in. “Stop it.”
“Can you blame me?” I reply. “There has been no word on if the attack was successful. I could have been there, bringing glory to our pack and instead I am…”
“I know,” she says as she walks up to me and places a kiss on my head. “The fact is you are not there. So what do we do now? That is what matters. If you want to remain relevant and important, you must think ahead of the game.”
She offers such good advice.
It was the right decision making her the Luna of the pack.
Not that it was easy.
Mother had gone crazy when she discovered Louisa had vanished. She had ordered me as well as the pack to search for her and bring her back, convinced that I had something to do with it.
Not that she was wrong of course.
I as well as those with me that night had gone down to the cliff to get rid of her body but it was not there.
We had figured she had slipped into the river but her body never showed up.
I know this because I had people strategically placed all over the bank as well as making a reward to anyone who found a body.
For the longest time, I worried that she would show up and expose what I did but she never did.
And she still hasn’t
Do I regret killing her?
No. Not in the slightest.
She was a weakling, a liability of the pack, one that could eventually lead us down a wrong path.
Can you imagine having such a pathetic woman as my Luna?
As the mother of the pack?
She didn’t even have a wolf.
So, no. It was a practical decision made for the pack and I am alright with it.
Two years.
It had taken two years of relentless, useless searching for a corpse for my mother to finally give in and accept that she would never be found.
She blamed and has never forgiven me.
The day I announced that I would be choosing Clarisse as our Luna was the day she left.
She didn’t show up for the ceremony and I have not heard about her whereabouts.
I tried searching for her but it was no use.
She didn’t want to be found.
Hopefully, one day she would come back to her senses and understand that I am her son, her only child and not that disgrace of a werewolf.
It was cruel of her leaving the pack without so much as a note.
All because of Louisa.
Like I needed any more reason to hate her.
“Earth to Dominic.”
I come back to myself as I look up to see Clarisse’s hazel eyes staring at me.
With one hand, I pull her to my laps before placing a kiss on her lips.
“I want to kill them all,” I tell her. “For the insult.”
“You have always had such a huge ego,” she scoffs.
“You like my ego,” I retort with a smirk
“Don’t be nasty. And don’t be hasty either. When did you hear about their movement?” she asks.
“Three days ago,” I answer with a sniff as I remember why I am annoyed. “Plenty enough tone for news on what happens to have spread.”
“And yet there has been nothing?”
“Not even a whisper. I tried calling the packs, trying to get their alphas on the line but they either made up some excuse why they can’t come to the phone or straight up didn’t pick.”
“And the Valor pack?”
“You know we haven’t had any relations with them. Not since our failed attack. Why would that pick?” I replied.
“Hmm. This is tricky. Is there no way to get close to the Coalition? Surely, they must have connections with the outside world.”
“Definitely. But whatever contacts they have are keeping numb and hidden. I would have picked up a phone to call but they don’t exactly have relations with the packs. Oh! This is annoying.”
How can a bunch of outcast, weaklings and the likes have the whole werewolf community by the balls like this?
“I have a crazy idea,” Clarisse says. “And you might not like it.”
“Let’s hear it.”
“How about approaching them, by yourself? Through the front door.”
“You are right. That is a crazy idea.”
