“I like to celebrate my birthday according to the lunar calendar,” Corey said without any emotions. It was a sort of explanation.
Then, he turned around and walked into the room. Halle followed behind him.
“What do you want to drink?” Corey turned to look at her.
Halle smiled brightly, “Anything goes.”
Corey cocked his eyebrows up and turned to the kitchen. In the living room, Halle kept looking around.
Very soon, Corey walked out with two bottles of drinks.
He handed one to Halle and sat down opposite her.
Corey opened the bottle and took a sip. Then, he looked at Halle and asked, “Halle, are you free recently?”
Halle was stunned. “Yes, what’s wrong?”
Corey looked at her calmly. “I have a favor to ask you.”
…
Ying Xiaoxiao wondered if it was her illusion that Corey had been acting strangely these two days.
After his father’s accident, if he didn’t go to work, he would spend time with her and her mother. However, these two days, he didn’t even come to the Ying’s. She called him, but he was so aloof as if he hated her very much.
Could it be that he had a problem with her?
The thought filled Ying Xiaoxiao with vague disquiet. She felt that she had to ask him because she did not want to be treated like this for no reason.
So, she went straight to his company, but she didn’t expect to see a woman who shouldn’t be in his office.
It was Halle.
Before she opened the door, she could hear the faint laughter, but when she opened it, it stopped abruptly.
At the sight of Ying Xiaoxiao, Halle rose from the sofa and called out in panic, “Ying Xiaoxiao.”
Ying Xiaoxiao shot her a cold glance and then turned her gaze to Corey. However, Corey looked well-rested, without changing color.
Ying Xiaoxiao had an intuition that there was something wrong, but she forced herself to abandon that thought.
“Corey, why haven’t you come to my house these two days?” Ying Xiaoxiao asked.
“I don’t want to go.”
The simple answer made Ying Xiaoxiao’s heart tremble. She bit her lips and swept her eyes over Halle. Then she asked with a smirk, “Is it because of her?”
Corey looked straight at Ying Xiaoxiao, neither admitting nor denying it.
He was too calm, causing her unease to grow constantly.
She took a deep breath and tried to make sense of that. After a while, she asked, “Corey, what exactly do you mean?”
However, he still looked at her without saying anything.
At this time, Halle said timidly, “Ying Xiaoxiao, stop asking him. He just … just doesn’t know how to tell you.”
“Who the hell are you?” Ying Xiaoxiao glared at her.
Halle’s breath was stifled. Then she bit her lips and murmured in grievance, “Ying Xiaoxiao, I know you’re angry, but I think I should tell you the truth.”
The truth? Ying Xiaoxiao frowned as she felt that her instinct seemed to be spot on.
Corey was still silent while Halle looked at him with affection. Then, she suddenly bowed to Ying Xiaoxiao and said, “Sorry, Ying Xiaoxiao.”
Ying Xiaoxiao’s face darkened and her eyes grew as cold as ice.
Halle continued, “Ying Xiaoxiao, Corey and I…. Corey….”
She hesitated, her fair cheeks turning red. At the sight of that, Ying Xiaoxiao felt quite uncomfortable.
Ying Xiaoxiao sneered, “Don’t tell me he cheated on me.”
Halle glanced at her and then lowered her head in embarrassment.
Ying Xiaoxiao slowly opened wide her eyes and looked at them in disbelief. Suddenly, she felt that her throat was so dry that she could not say anything.
A deathly silence descended over them. Staring at Ying Xiaoxiao, Corey clenched his fist. There was sadness in his eyes but Ying Xiaoxiao didn’t notice it.
Noticing her so shocked, he was heartbroken.
‘I’m sorry, Ying Xiaoxiao.’
He could only say that inwardly.
After a long time, Ying Xiaoxiao could finally speak. She asked stiffly, “Corey, is it true what Halle said?”
“I’m sorry.”
He didn’t answer her question directly, but it was enough.
Ying Xiaoxiao suddenly laughed as she looked at the man who had said he loved her. But now he turned so strange.
“Bastard!” She couldn’t suppress the anger and sadness anymore. She rushed forward and raised her hand to slap him.
Corey didn’t dodge at all.
Covering her mouth to stop herself exclaiming, Halle stared blankly at them.
“Let’s break up.”
Without hesitation, Ying Xiaoxiao turned around and strode away.
After watching her go, Halle turned to look at Corey. Noticing that his face had turned red because of the slap, she immediately walked up and reached out to touch him, but he tilted his head and dodged her hand.
Halle paused in embarrassment and looked very hurt. She pursed her lips and asked with concern, “Corey, are you OK?”
Corey shook his head. “I’m fine.”
Such a physical injury did not compare to the emotional harm he had done to Ying Xiaoxiao. He wished that she would hit him a few more times so that she would feel better.
Halle said thoughtfully, “Corey, do you really think it is the right thing to do?”
That day, he asked her for help, but she never expected to help him in this way.
She did not know why he did this, but she knew he loved Ying Xiaoxiao. He was in pain when he did so, and so was Ying Xiaoxiao.
They loved each other so much that Halle could not understand why they had to end up like this.
Corey lifted one hand to his painful cheeks, and his lips curled in a wry smile. “Whether it’s good or not, we did it already. It’s too late.”
“Corey, this is fixable. I can tell Ying Xiaoxiao that it isn’t true. Then nothing will be changed.”
“No need,” Corey replied as he looked up at Halle. “You just need to do as I say. Don’t worry about anything else.”
Even though she liked Corey, Halle didn’t want to see him do anything against his will and suffer.
Her biggest wish was to make the one she loved happy.
Halle sighed, “Corey, I hope you won’t regret it.”
Regret? Corey curled his lips as if despising himself. Of course, he regretted it, but he had to do it.
