Chapter 96
Angelo had also brought Eva back home. He carried her to one of the spare rooms and laid her gently on the bed.
He didn’t know why he still bothered about her, maybe it was the remnants of the past they shared, or perhaps it was the exhaustion from the endless betrayals that seemed to have happened around him in just a short span of time.
Whatever it was, he couldn’t bring himself to leave her at Klaus’s domain, they would roast her alive and he did not want that for her.
When he returned from his session with Klaus, he had decided to check on he4. The house was quiet, the weight of the day pressing down on him as he climbed the stairs. He opened the door to her room and found her still asleep, her face soft and relaxed, like she didn’t have a care in the world. For a moment, he stood there, watching her. She looked so innocent in her sleep, and yet the chaos she had caused flashed in his mind.
He pulled the nearest seat close to himself and sat beside the bed watching her sleep. She was unconscious, her breathing steady as though she were in a peaceful sleep and he wondered what it was shs was dreaming about.
It didn’t matter that she had betrayed him. From her conversation with Klaus, he could see how much she had been manipulated. She had been used like a pawn in Klaus’s game, blinded by her emotions. Angelo felt no anger toward her anymore, just a sense of relief that she had come to terms with the truth and he hoped that she would change and accept the fact that they could no longer be together. She was a good person and he wanted her to have a good life.
As Angelo sat down, he rested his arm on his knees as he leaned forward. He studied her face like it held the answer to a question he hadn’t asked yet. Why had she risked everything? Why had she let herself be used? He lit a cigarette, letting the smoke curl in the air as he waited.
Slowly, Eva began to stir. Her eyelashes fluttered, her breathing shifted, and soon her eyes cracked open, adjusting to the soft light of the room. She blinked, her surroundings unfamiliar, and as the events of the past days replayed in her mind, her body stiffened. Her head turned, and her gaze locked onto Angelo, who was sitting quietly, watching her.
Her heart sank. “Angelo,” she whispered, her voice trembling. She pushed herself up from the bed, her legs swinging over the side as she faced him fully.
Guilt weighed heavy in her chest. “I’m sorry, Angelo. I didn’t mean to… I…” Her words stumbled, her emotions overwhelming her as tears welled in her eyes. Before she could stop herself, she fell to her knees, sobbing.
“I was blinded by my love for you,” she cried, her voice breaking. “I wanted to keep you for myself, but I didn’t know Klaus was just using me for his selfish desires. He didn’t even plan to keep his word.” She wiped her tears hastily, looking up at Angelo with desperation.
“Please, say something! Say something to me, please,” she begged, crawling forward until she was tugging at his legs. “I’m so sorry, Angelo.”
Angelo had been silent the entire time, his face emotionless as he stared at her. He looked down, his dark eyes meeting her tear-filled ones. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady and firm.
“I’ll assume you feel better after relieving your frustration on an innocent person. Look at me now, I’m not blaming you for all the injuries I had during this incident, but then when they scar and i look back at those scars, I don’t think I’ll have good memories of you. You should’ve thought about that before you betray me.” Angelo spoke softly as she cried more.
“I’m sorry, Angelo. I’m really sorry, I didn’t think about all of thatm I just didn’t consider it. I guess I was too blinded to see that I would hurt you too.” She confessed.
“I understand that, and to be sincere, I don’t have any business with you anymore,” he said coldly. “I’ll let you go this one time, for the sake of the memories we have together. But listen carefully.” He leaned forward, his tone growing colder. “My heart is with someone else. If you try a stunt like this again, you won’t like the outcome. I promise you that.”
Eva froze, her grip on his leg loosening as she looked up at him with a mix of shock and heartbreak. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She couldn’t believe that he had said those cruel words to her. Angelo stood up from the chair, towering over her, his words final.
“Angelo, please,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I… I didn’t mean to hurt you.” she was holding unto the last threads of hope, begging that he would respond to this, if not, she would be gone forever without turning back.
Angelo didn’t respond. He turned his back on her, walking toward the door, his movements deliberate and slow. “I’m leaving now,” he said without looking back. “When you feel better, pack your things and leave my house.”
With that, he walked out, leaving her kneeling on the floor, tears streaming down her face. She stared at the closed door with a broken heart. She couldn’t understand how Angelo could still hold onto Elena after everything. She had sent him the video, the damning evidence of Elena’s betrayal. She was sure he had seen it. Yet, despite it all, his heart was still with her.
Eva wiped her face, pulling herself to her feet. She knew it was over. There was nothing she could do to change his mind. His love for Elena was unshakable. Resigned, she made up her mind to leave. There was no place for her here anymore. She would leave and give them the space they needed to play their love.

Meanwhile, Elena had regained consciousness in another room still in Angelos house, but was still receiving treatment. Her body felt heavy, and her thoughts were clouded by the events of the past few days. Angelo had locked her in a room, and though she understood why, it still stung that he hadn’t come to see her.
She sat by the window, staring out at the dark sky. The silence in the room was suffocating, her guilt wasn’t even helping matters as it weighed down on her chest. She knew why Angelo was avoiding her. The betrayal would definitely still be fresh in his mind. The video had been a cruel ome, and she had no idea how to explain herself to him.
Elena rested her head against the glass, her fingers tracing invisible patterns on the windowpane. She thought about the night she had spent locked in that caged room with Angelo. The way he had shielded her, comforted her. Even after everything, her heart still belonged to him. She couldn’t deny it, even if it hurt.
She turned when the door creaked open. A doctor entered, checking her vitals and murmuring reassurances. “You’re healing well,” the doctor said, her tone kind. “But you need to rest.”
Elena nodded absently, her mind elsewhere. “Do you know if Angelo will come to see me?” she asked softly, her voice tinged with hope.
The doctor paused, a small smile on her lips. “He’s been very busy, but I’m sure he’ll come when he’s ready.”
Elena sighed, leaning back against the pillow. She wanted to see him, to tell him the truth. But she wasn’t sure if he would even listen.

Downstairs, Angelo sat in his study, his head resting in his hands. The events of the past few days played in his mind like a relentless storm. His conversation with Eva had left a bitter taste in his mouth, but it was nothing compared to the turmoil he felt about Elena.
He had seen the video, and there was no denying what he had watched. Elena with Dominic, in bright day light. But something deep inside him refused to let go of her. The night they had spent locked in that room had changed something. He couldn’t ignore the way she had clung to him, the way her voice trembled when she spoke his name.
“Boss?” one of his men interrupted, stepping into the room. Angelo looked up, his face hard.
“What is it?”
“Dominic’s starting to wake up,” the man informed him.
Angelo nodded, standing from his chair. “Good. Let me know when he’s fully conscious. We have a lot to discuss.”
As the man left, Angelo leaned against the desk, his jaw tight. He wasn’t ready to face Elena yet. Not until he heard Dominic’s side of the story. Whatever had happened between them, he needed the truth. Only then could he decide what to do next.
For now, he would wait.
