CHAPTER 70
As soon as Angelo left, Elena went straight into the kitchen to fix something to eat. After which she went to the pool to relieve some stress.
It was hot. So freaking hot that the water was like a relief pill to her. For a few hours, she just swam and stayed in the water, not wanting to think about anything and just clear her mind.
The environment was quiet, save for the sound of the water splashing around, the environment was serene and peaceful.
But just as she was beginning to feel calm and at ease, she suddenly felt a trickle on her neck.
Someone was watching her. She paused in her movements stating her ears for a while to know if someone was actually coming.
She turned, slowly, her eyes at every corner of the poolside, but there was no one.
Still, that shiver went up her spine, and she was beginning to feel restless. She knew she might be overreacting, as she had been feeling restless for some days now, so she quickly finished up and began to get off the water.
She was still in her bathing suit and had just turned, when she came face to face with a huge figure, causing her to be very loud.
“Oh my gosh!” She let out a small scream, and the hit her forehead, “it’s you,”
It was Dominic. Standing in front of her with a stoic expression on his face. Dominic was putting on a dark suit, as always, looking like he was on an assignment or heading somewhere.
In his hands held a package, in a brown envelope.
“Yes. It’s me,” he said slowly, trying as much as possible to avoid staring down at her fair skin which her bathing suit did nothing to hide away.
“Here,” he stretched his hand, offering her the envelope, “He asked me to give this to you.”
While Elena’s eyes trailed down to the envelope in his hands, he couldn’t avert his eyes any longer. He slowly let them slide down her body, his jaw tightening as her luscious skin came into view.
He quickly averted his eyes and was about to leave, but Elena caught his gaze and she blinked.
“It was you right?” She suddenly spoke, just as Dominic was walking away. He halted in his tracks at her words, not turning back, but Elena took two steps towards him.
“It was you. I remember seeing you that day.”
This time, Dominic whipped around to face her, eyes widened slightly in shock and confusion.
He didn’t say a word, but his mind was a mess. What was she saying? Was she bluffing or pulling his legs? Or perhaps, testing him?
Elena took another step closer, her sudden determination confusing even her.
Her eyes were fixed on him, but aside from the shocked look in his eyes, she couldn’t detect what was actually going through his mind.
“You saved me,” she whispered, and Dominic froze. He literally stopped breathing at her words, for a split second. And then he quickly looked around, both sides of the pool environment.
“I don’t know what you are talking about. You need to rest, you might be having hallucinations.” He said, his expression masked to convert his actual emotions.
Within him, he was in a slight panic. He didn’t know how much she knew, or how she might have been bleeding to know he actually saved her.
But he wasn’t having this conversation with her.
He turned sharply, but her voice stopped him again.
“I know what you did, Dominic. I know you saved me that day. I know you came for me.”
Dominic’s mind spiraled. He didn’t turn to stare back at her, but one cousin saw from his tensed muscles, that he was trying to keep himself in check.
He felt her closer.
“I just want to know why you did it. I just need to know.”
Dominic’s jaw clenched. She wasn’t supposed to know anything about this. She was fuckin unconscious that day, and even Angelo didn’t know how he had gotten her out that very day. How coke she know so much?
The bits and pieces that were in Elena’s head suddenly began to piece themselves together. It was finally making sense but still mildly confusing.
Dominic’s brown eyes just stared at her, blazing, confused, and full of questions.
“Are you toying with me, Elena?” His voice was low but deep. Cautious even, as he thought of a better way to address this.
They were standing just a few inches away from each other.
Elena on the other hand had a determined look on her face, “He is searching for the drive and you know it. The same one I had hoped to retrieve that day at the club. What are you gonna tell him then?”
“What the hell are you doing, Elena!?” Dom seethed this time, his teeth clenching together in digress, “This isn’t funny,”
She shook her head, her eyes shining with sheer curiosity and determination, “I just want to know why you did it. That’s all. I just want to know why you, of all his men, would go behind his back…. why you have to go against him even to save me.”
Dominic was fighting hard to control his expression. If Angelo finds out that he had given the flash drive back to Mario’s man, he would be deadly furious.
For the life of him, he couldn’t understand how Elena suddenly knew so much.
All these while he had thought she was so beat that she couldn’t feel or even hear anything that day.
His mind was a mess.
On one hand, he was glad that she knew he was the one that saved her. Hell ever since that day, he had tried so painstakingly to avoid seeing her. To avoid looking at her. But that was nearly impossible as they stayed in the same place.
On the other hand, her finding out what he did for her was the last thing he wanted. As much as he has strong feelings for her, he isn’t ready to jeopardize his Boss’s trust in him.
She was Angelo’s girl for fucks sake.
But why does he feel so strongly for her? Why does he seem to not want to stop gazing into those eyes of hers?
Why does his heart flutter whenever he thinks of her or is close to her?
It was even helping that Elena was just in that flimsy bath suit, which had been messing with his head.
“Why, Dominic?” She whispered again, catching him off guard a bit.
His eyes was on her rosy lips, and he felt the blood rush down his head.
In a flash, before Elena nor he, could process what was going on, he had grabbed her by the waist and crashed his lips on hers.
