Chapter 42

Book:Resisting The Dangerous Mafia Lord Published:2024-12-6

Angelo;
“Get ready, Elena. We are going on a trip,” I said gruffly as I pulled myself away from her.
I got down on the bed and proceeded to put on my shirt.
“Um… trip? Trip to where?” She sat up on the bed, and I let my eyes roam over her body, down to her curves.
Her eyes followed my trail, and a deep blush stained her cheeks as she quickly took MY shirt which she was wearing earlier on her body.
“Yes. The trip,” I buckled my jeans and fully faced her, “You should freshen up and wear something comfy. There are a lot of dresses for you in the wardrobe.”
With that being said, I simply turned and left the room.
I didn’t quite miss the perplexed expression on her face as I spoke to her.
But the moment I opened the door, I was met with a red-faced Eva, eyes wide as she stared at me.
“Um… f father was looking for you,” She said, pointing towards the staircase.
I blinked, “Are you okay, Eva? You don’t look good.”
Eva shook her head like she was in a sort of trance, “Of course, I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”
I chuckled, as I began to make my way towards the staircase, with her on my trail, “Because you look like you just swallowed a box of chilly.”
Eva’s footsteps were light as she trailed after me. The words Elena had told me earlier still echoed in my head, but instead of asking her about it, I asked instead, “How did the discussion with Don go?”
“What!?”
I glanced at her, and her face lit up in recollection, “Oh, he… he refused. Can you help me speak to him? Please Angelo, you know he always listens to you.”
I stilled in my tracks and faced her, “Eva you know your safety is more important to me than anything else. You are my responsibility and I won’t jeopardize it by putting you in danger.”
“But I won’t be in danger, Angelo. Don’t you get?” She flailed her arms in the air, sending frustration.
“You’ll be here with me. To protect me. You know how suffocating the manor can be and I feel so trapped. I just need a bit of fresh air. Please?”
Her voice softened at the end, eyes pleading as they bore into me.
I ran a hand over my chin, shaking my head just as I spotted Dominic heading towards us from the other end of the halls.
“Trust me, Eva,” I placed a hand on her cheek, tucking a strand of her red hair into her ears.
“You don’t have to deny it. You know you are safer with the Don. He has more enemies than I do, but still. I have a lot of stuff to settle at the moment and it’s not safe for you. Not at all. Plus, I’ll be heading to Peru any moment now for a dangerous assignment, and….”
“And she is going with you, isn’t she?” She bit back.
Dominic stood a few distance before us… files in his hands, as he awaited for me.
“Why do you have to take her with you and not me, huh?”
I shook my head at her outburst, “you are sounding rather childish, Eva. I care about you which is why I can’t jeopardize your safety for anything. She, on the other hand… she is an asset.”
Her mouth opened to protest, but I beat her to it, “Can you let Don know I will be with him shortly? I will be right down.”
Not giving her room for argument, I quickly focused my gaze on Dominic, who waited until she had stomped down the stairs.
He reached forward and handed over the files in his hands to me.
“Is the private Jet ready?”
“Yes, Boss.”
I nodded, “Good.”
“Heard from our insider yet?” I inquired.
Dominic heaved a sigh, “It’s been quiet for a while now. But the merchandise hasn’t been released yet.”
My eyes shot up at him, “What?”
“What do you mean it hasn’t been released? I thought we have the government officials on our side?”
“Yes, we did. But we were a bit late. It seems ….” He hesitated for a bit, and my curiosity was piqued.
“It seems what?”
For some reason, I knew whatever I was, was not good at all.
The merchandise which was supposed to arrive a few days ago was delayed, which had never happened before.
But I had not bothered about it as I had people in different sectors. Most especially the government officials.
It was supposed to have been released and waiting for me in my warehouse in Peru, but…
“What the hell do you mean by that, Dominic? Why are the goods not released yet?”
His face was grim and he spoke, rather hesitantly, “It was Klaus.”
My fists bunched the file in my hands as I stomped my foot, “Fuck!!!!”
“How the hell did that bastard get a hold of those bastards!?” I let out an exasperated sigh as I palmed my forehead in sheer frustration.
“I can not have the merchandise I spent millions on go down the drain, Dominic.” I took a glance at my watch.
“Make sure our man does not do so much as open his mouth. We have an hour to be on the flight. Do all that you can while I converse with Don.”
He nodded, “Got it,”
I made my way down the stairs, feeling so pissed and frustrated.
The fight with Klaus never ends. But I was not about to let him get the upper hand this time around.
*******
An hour later, after all talks with Don, and convincing Eva for the umpteenth time that she’s safer at the manor, I made my way to the private jet, with Elena and Dominic in tow.
She was putting on a black dress… similar to the one I had ripped off her earlier in the garden.
I didn’t know if she had worn it because she wanted to relieve the moment, or she wanted me to rip it off her like I did earlier.
But I didn’t let my mind settle on it, as we made our way into the jet.
“You still haven’t told me where we are headed to, Angelo. Where are you taking me?”
“Somewhere rather important,” I replied, as a matter of fact, glancing at her with an unimpressed look.
“What? I only asked a question.”
A few minutes later we landed in Peru.
We immediately made our way to my warehouse, where I was sure I was being waited on.
The moment we got into the dimly lit warehouse, I heard a gasp.
Elena recoiled sharply, looking like she had seen a ghost.
I shook my head, not sparing her a glance as I took in the police officer tied up on a stool, bleeding profusely.
My men surrounded him, with tools and equipment which they used to inflict damage on him.
His head raised weakly, his eyes meeting mine for a fleeting moment.
In a swift move. I had reached out in my waistband, brought out my pistol, corked it, and shot straight to his fucking heart.
A scream of terror echoed through the room. But it wasn’t his scream. Elena was screaming her lungs out, with her eyes wide open as she stared at the now-dead officer.
“Oh my God…. what have you done!?” Her mouth was agape, as she stared at me and then at the dead officer.
