Chapter 12

Book:Ruined By The Shifter Kings Published:2024-12-6

Lienna.
I watched as Veronica, the Shifter Kings mistress walked out of the room, an uncomfortable feeling brewing in the pit of my stomach as the door closed behind her. I couldn’t quite fathom it, why did she go out of her way to meet me, knowing fully well we were going bump into each other eventually?
Plus, it seemed like she was covering so much rage with that sickly sweet exterior. A shudder went through me and I shook my head. I hope I never run into her ever again. I didn’t have time to dwell on her as Mara returned back to the room, a concerned expression on her face as she walked up to me.
“Are you alright? Did the mistress say or do anything mean to you?” Mara asked as she settled on the chair beside the bed, her face filled with worry. I shook my head.
I pursed my lips, other than her weird mannerisms, she didn’t do anything else. “No, I’m fine. She didn’t do anything. We just talked.” I told her.
Mara let out a sigh of relief then. “That’s good to know. For a moment, I was concerned she would act out.” She said and I furrowed my brows in confusion. Did she have a habit of doing that? Well, it was hardly surprising, her demeanour suggested it.
“The Shifter Kings have a mistress?” I asked a while later and Mara nodded.
“Yes, she’s the only one they have kept for decades now.” Mara explained. That added to my confusion.
“Then, if they have a mistress, why do they go about purchasing slaves?”
“Oh…” Mara waved her hands. “That one is just for fun. Every month, each King is mandated to bring a slave which all three would share in the Play Pen for their pleasure.”
“Three!?” I asked, my eyes widening in confusion. “B-but, I only saw two of them.”
“That’s because Caspian, The dragon King wasn’t with them. He wasn’t around. If he was, we probably might be saying a different story right now.” Mara said. The information surprised as much as it terrified me. I looked down at my hands, balling it into the fists as my heart raced in fear. Could it be that the reason of my survival was because Caspian, the dragon king wasn’t with them? All three were supposed to be with me? It makes sense now that my survival would be shocking to a lot of people.
I turned to look at Mara, a fearful expression on my face. “I… Is the dragon king like the rest of them?” I muttered, my voice shaking slightly despite my best attempts to hide it. She immediately shook her head, a warm smile appertaining on her face.
“No. The Dragon king is much calmer and kinder than the rest of the Shifter Kings. The only problem is that he’s rarely around. It is believed that Dragons like to lead an astute way of life. Hence, the sudden need to go out and be solitary for a while. And unlike the WereTiger and Werewolves, they aren’t so governed by their instincts.”
“Oh….” I trailed off, not really knowing what to say to that.
“He is around now though.” Mara announced as she stood to her feet, packing the bowls of food and arranging the medicines and potions on the table. I looked up at her, my eyes wide.
“Who is around?” I asked, confused.
“The Dragon king. Which means you’ll be seeing him soon.” she announced.
“Oh….” I trailed off, looking down at my fingers. I swallowed the lump in my throat, feeling my heart pound in my chest. I really wasn’t in the mood to see another Shifter King. The first two that I met have scarred me enough for a lifetime.
“You shouldn’t dwell on that though.” Mara said as if she read my thoughts. When I glanced at her, she was looking at me with a soft smile on her face. “Focus on your recovery. That is the most important right now. Okay?”
I nodded, forcing a smile. “Yes, Mara. I will do just that.” I told her and she gave him a warm smile.
“Let me put this away, I’ll be right back.” She said and left the room with the empty bowls of food on the tray. I watched the door close before letting out an exasperated breath and laying down on the bed. My life is about to become very interesting.

A week has passed since my session with the Shifter Kings. Thanks to Mara’s help most of the bruises on my body had healed and I could finally walk without a limp. I had also received my energy back though I still get nightmares about that night. Whenever that happens, Mara is always quick to be by my side and comfort me. I couldn’t be more grateful for her. She was almost like the mother I never had.
Since I was originally bought for the sexual pleasure of the Shifter Kings and ended up surviving, there was really nothing for me to do. As a result, I spent most of time indoors, reading books about the various supernatural beings that existed in our realm, especially the Moon goddess and how important she was to them. Other than that dream that I had of her where she clearly stated she would dwell inside me, I haven’t have any meetings with her or manifestions of her power yet.
One day, while I was poring over books about the moon goddess, a knock came on the door. Thinking it was Mara, I called the person to come in. It wasn’t Mara but a fierce looking guard instead. Shocked, I froze just staring at him.
“You have been summoned by the dragon king.” He dropped the bombshell and my heart skipped a beat.
“What?” I found myself saying out loud. Why is he summoning me?
“Do not keep him waiting.” He added gruffly before turning around and leaving the room, slamming the door so hard I flinched.
I have been summoned by the dragon king?! What the hell does he want from me???
