The visitor was dressed in high fashion, exuding elegance and composure, with a smile on her lips. “Who is this?”
Callie glanced at her in a panic and then froze, almost in disbelief. Sienna was here. She looked completely different from the two months they had spent together. Now, she wore makeup, and her eyes had a sharper look.
Callie wore a mask, revealing only her eyes. It seemed Sienna did not recognize her.
Jaquan reacted quickly. “My assistant, here to report on work.”
Sienna’s gentle demeanor remained unchanged as she looked at Callie. “It’s not easy, working so late. Go ahead.”
Callie shuffled her feet, trying to hide her slippers.
Jaquan added, “Sienna, it’s urgent. May I borrow your study?”
Sienna hesitated for a moment, glanced at the crowd, and made a decision. “I’ll have the servant take you to the guest room’s study. There’s a computer there.”
“Alright.”
Jaquan led Callie upstairs. She was distracted, her mind in turmoil. From Sienna’s tone earlier, it seemed she was familiar with the Ellison family, like an important figure.
Still in a daze, after a day of not seeing each other, they met again here.
“Jaquan,” Callie suddenly asked while going upstairs, “Who was that woman just now?”
Jaquan didn’t think much of it. “You haven’t seen her? She’s the lady of the Ellison family and Marilyn’s mother.” He added, “She spends most of her time meditating in the mountains these years, rarely seen by others. It’s normal you haven’t met her.”
Callie frowned. She never expected that the person she felt so connected to was Marilyn’s mother! Someone destined to be on the opposing side…
Callie had even told her she wished she were her mother.
Thinking back, Callie felt embarrassed. With such a status, how could she be her mother?
Reaching the second floor and turning a corner, a calm and familiar voice suddenly came through. “What is it?”
Callie stopped in her tracks.
Jaquan also turned to look at her.
Ahead was a faintly visible figure, a man she hadn’t seen in a long time, standing quietly.
In front of him was Charlotte, wearing a fitted cheongsam, looking down demurely. She spoke earnestly, “Mr. Oconnor, thank you for helping me out earlier.”
“I didn’t do it for you.” Nelson looked away indifferently.
Charlotte wasn’t as nervous as before. She put her hands behind her back, looking charming. “You did it for me. I know.”
The man remained emotionless. “I didn’t.”
Charlotte moved closer. “Yes, Mr. Oconnor felt guilty for mistaking me for Callie and came specifically to help me out of trouble.”
The information in that sentence was too much for Callie to even move.
Nelson frowned, half-serious. “You’re overthinking it. It’s Marilyn’s birthday; of course I had to be here.”
“But your timing was too perfect, wasn’t it? Just when Marilyn was being relentless.”
Charlotte looked up at him, standing very close.
“Can I understand that you came for me?”
Jaquan’s gaze towards Callie became deep and worried.
Callie didn’t know how she managed to force a smile and whispered, “Let’s go in and not waste time.”
She should have known he would be at such an event.
She just didn’t expect to witness such a scene.
Jaquan stepped aside to open the study door, and Callie went in first.
