Chapter 340: A Call from Scarlett Wood

Suggesting something as outrageous as suspecting her own sister of having an inappropriate relationship with her husband felt like crossing a line of morality. Yet, Georgia Adams mustered all her courage to voice the thought.
She had been rehearsing this line in her mind while lying in bed, torn between embarrassment and determination. After all, she had just been through a terrifying ordeal, only for Kayden Scott to head off with Leah Adams shortly after. Worse still, they had seemed overly affectionate before leaving. Anyone in her shoes would feel uneasy.
As a wife, standing her ground to protect her husband was only natural.
Kayden Scott paused, caught off guard by her accusation, then calmly asked, “Georgia, are you misunderstanding me?”
“I hope I’m wrong too,” Georgia replied, her tone sharp yet tinged with vulnerability.
Kayden exhaled deeply. He could see it now-Georgia was jealous, and worse, jealous of his own sister.
Having just returned home, he didn’t want to leave any doubts lingering in Georgia’s mind. Moving closer to her, he gently held her hand, his expression earnest. “I’ve told you before, you’re the only woman I want to protect for the rest of my life. Leah Adams is like a sister to me-nothing more. But if it bothers you, I’ll make sure to keep my distance from her.”
Georgia’s eyes flickered, her expression softening slightly. “That’s not what I mean. You might see her as your sister, but who knows what she thinks of you? What if she’s fallen for you? She’s young, she’s beautiful… what if one day, you-”
She pouted, her tone laced with both frustration and unease.
Kayden tightened his grip on her hand, his voice firm and full of conviction. “To me, the world is divided into two kinds of women: you, and everyone else. No matter how beautiful anyone else is, they could never compare to you. From now on, you’re my world, my everything.”
Georgia’s cheeks flushed. Even in the darkness, her bashfulness was apparent. Her heart skipped a beat as those words struck her deeply. Kayden wasn’t one for sweet talk, and yet his every word felt like a solemn vow.
“Georgia.” Kayden leaned closer, his body brushing against hers. The unexpected proximity made Georgia’s breath hitch, her heart pounding.
Sensing her quickened breathing against his face, Kayden understood. Any man would recognize the signs of stirred emotions. But Kayden wasn’t just any man-his love and devotion were absolute.
Holding her hands tightly, he whispered, “You’re the only woman I’ll ever love. No one else could ever capture my heart. Remember this: you’re not just my wife-you’re my queen.”
Georgia couldn’t hold back anymore. Overwhelmed by the sincerity of his words, she threw her arms around him. The tension from their earlier quarrel dissolved in an instant.
Kayden Scott wasn’t a man of many words, nor one to throw around empty flattery. That’s precisely why every word he spoke carried weight, every promise an undeniable truth.
“I trust you,” Georgia whispered in his ear. Her earlier anger melted away as she gave in to his unwavering gaze.
Kayden wrapped her in his arms, and as he did, he became acutely aware of the smooth silk of her nightgown. The touch of the fabric ignited something primal within him-a longing he couldn’t suppress.
This time, there would be no holding back.
By the time they fell asleep, the night had etched itself into their hearts-a night neither of them would ever forget.
The next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains as the sound of a ringing phone broke the serene silence.
Georgia, still groggy, reached for her phone. Scarlett Wood’s name flashed across the screen. A glance at the time revealed it was already ten o’clock-a rare late start for someone like Georgia, who was always up early managing her company. But last night’s passion had left her completely drained.
Blushing at the memory, she quickly answered the call.
“What’s wrong, Mom?” she asked, concern creeping into her voice.
On the other end, Scarlett’s voice was fraught with panic. “Georgia, get to Flax Street right away. I’ve run into some trouble.”
The background noise was chaotic, filled with angry voices and commotion.
“I’ll be right there!” Georgia hung up, turning to Kayden, who was already awake.
“What happened?” he asked, his brow furrowed.
“My mom’s in trouble,” Georgia said, her worry evident.
“Let’s go.” Kayden got out of bed and started getting dressed without hesitation.
Despite Scarlett Wood’s sharp tongue and difficult personality, Georgia knew her mother’s intentions were good. Her staunch opposition to Georgia marrying Kayden had stemmed from his previous condition. After all, who wouldn’t hesitate to let the most beautiful woman in Hiphia marry a “fool” with no status?
But times had changed, and so had Kayden Scott. Now, it was time to see what kind of trouble Scarlett Wood had found herself in.
