Ruby:
Lilith’s eyes flashed with anger at my words, her lips curling into a snarl. “You dare to mock me? You think you can outwit me with your pathetic attempts at humour?”
“I’m not mocking you, Lilith; I’m just stating the obvious.” I retorted boldly, maintaining eye contact with her.
“I remember warning you clearly the last time, didn’t I? But here you stand before me, still thinking you can control my fate. Your level of delusion is amazing.” There was a hint of amusement in my voice as I challenged her.
Her nostrils flared with rage, but she quickly composed herself, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips. “Ruby, I don’t need to control your fate because you’re already doomed to repeat your mistakes. And this time, I would make sure that there would be no escaping the consequences.” She spat, keeping her distance from my cell.
I noticed she was intentionally avoiding it, likely because it contained silver. This could explain why I was unable to communicate with Damian through our mate bond and ask for help. Surprisingly, it didn’t seem to hurt me or my wolf, which was rather remarkable. However, I needed to find a way out of the cell before it was too late.
If I somehow managed to get out of here alive and miraculously become the council president, Lilith’s head would be the first thing I would go after.
I smiled sinisterly at the thought, relishing the idea of finally having the upper hand over her. But then, the image of her son locked up in a cold room flashed through my mind, causing me to draw a sharp breath.
Could he be the heavens begging me not to make him an orphan at an early stage of his life? After all, I had made him a promise to bring her back to him.
Shit. Shit.
“Listen, Lilith. I’m tired of this endless back-and-forth, this futile game we’re playing,” I began, my tone softening with genuine concern. “I know this would sound like a lie to you, and honestly, I wish it were, but I’m willing to forgive you for your son’s sake. He doesn’t deserve to suffer the consequences of his mother’s actions. He’s such a sweet child, and it’s a shame that you can’t see that.”
“Oh, how brave of you to speak so boldly from your knees. You have no right to threaten me, stupid bitch,” she taunted, her eyes glittering with anger.
“Fine, he is my son; I gave birth to him, but that doesn’t mean he is my responsibility. He was a mistake in my life, and thankfully now he has a family where he’s happy. Trust me, you should be worried about your own fate. Your end is here.”
I had believed I was a bad mother to Alex, especially in the beginning, but Lilith had now claimed that unpleasant crown, and strangely, I found a sense of relief in that. As I made one final attempt to reason with her, it wasn’t for her sake, but for the sake of the innocent little boy caught in the crossfire.
My patience wore thin as I made one final attempt to reason with Lilith, just for the sake of the little boy. “Happy?” I scoffed in disbelief at her patheticness.
“Your son is being locked up like an animal, and you call that happiness? Lilith, please! Stop; don’t let your pride and hatred for me blind you from seeing the truth staring you in the face. Don’t be consumed by your desire for power.
Think about what you’re doing, because I’m offering you just one last chance to make things right and protect your son. Get down on your knees and beg me for forgiveness before it’s too late, or else when the time comes, I won’t be sparing your wretched life,” I warned, but Lilith simply rolled her eyes, dismissing my words with a flick of her hand. It was evident that reasoning with her was futile.
” I suppose fucking Damian has made you bold, but dear, you won’t make it out of here to fulfil your empty threats,” she retorted, her eyes flashing red for a second just like they did seven years ago, giving her an inhuman appearance.
“I’ve imagined countless ways to end you, Ruby, just as I did with your friend. This world belongs to the strong, and you’re too feeble to survive in it. You couldn’t save him, just as you failed to save your child, and now you won’t save yourself.”
Her words cut deep, but I refused to let her see my vulnerability. All thoughts of forgiving her vanished from my mind in an instant. Lilith doesn’t deserve mercy, and I was a fool for even considering it for a second.
“Are you Jane’s accomplice?” I demanded, my voice trembling with rage as my fists clenched, while Lilith watched, pacing back and forth, laughing at my words.
“Was it you who gave her the instructions?” I asked again, holding the cage tightly, wishing I could get to her and tear her in half.
“Aren’t you tired of asking me that question?” Lilith retorted with a smirk, her eyes gleaming with malice. “Honestly, I wish I did, but surprisingly, someone else wanted to have the pleasure of doing so. And maybe if I’m in a good mood, then I’ll tell you-it’s the last person you’d ever expect.”
The last person I ever expected?
I knew I shouldn’t believe anything she was saying, but I couldn’t help but wonder who could have orchestrated such a betrayal.
“I know you’re looking for a way out of this to escape my wrath; that’s why you’re saying all this,” I yelled, shaking the cage.
“Just because you managed to have me locked up here doesn’t mean you’ve won. Sucking up the dick of the council president won’t be enough to kill me unless you plan on sucking up the dicks of the twelve elders. I bet that won’t be a problem because you’re good at that.” I couldn’t help but taunt her, watching as she turned red with anger.
“Say whatever you like, but I will be found guilty at the council meeting,” Lilith declared. “And I’ll make sure I give you an interesting death. Don’t worry, I won’t tell you what it would be; that would ruin the surprise.” I met her threat with a steely gaze, refusing to let her intimidation sway me.
Lilith already had everyone at the council meeting under her control, which wasn’t favourable for me. My trial would undoubtedly be unfair, and I wouldn’t be given a chance to defend myself and prove my innocence.
But there is a way I could get out of this-I just have to make the elders grant my request, which makes it impossible and risky.
“Now you finally realise that I’ll be the one ending this game, right?” Lilith said, noticing my quietness. But unknown to her, I had a plan, and all I had to do was make her think she had won.
Her worst mistake was having me locked up and bringing me herself to the council court to have me killed. She may have forgotten what I had said in the past, but I was ready to play dirty and roll in the mud, just like she always does, to win this. I was going to end it once and for all. It’s either I died or she did.
“Lilith, for the last seven years of my life, I didn’t want to continue and give up, but I didn’t because you became my goal and the reason for me to breathe. And now I have become obsessed with it.”
“You can do nothing but run your mouth. Once I finally get rid of you for good, Damian will be all mine,” Lilith sneered triumphantly. I couldn’t help but laugh at her arrogance.
“Join the queue, dear. You’re not the only one vying for Damian’s love, so I hope you have fun competing for his love,” I replied with a smirk. Lilith’s expression twisted into a mixture of confusion and frustration.
“What do you mean by that?” she demanded, her voice cracking at the end.
“Oh, sweetheart, maybe if I’m in a good mood, then I’ll tell you,” I smirked, relishing the shock on her face as I turned her own words against her.
