Ruby
His words cut through the air, a stark acknowledgment of the reality that lingered between us. His steel grey eyes stared at the ground, avoiding my face, while I glared daggers at his skull.
He was being a coward, and it annoyed me to the core. His reminder that I was now a nobody, thanks to him, made my hatred for him double. He made me forcefully become an omega. He ruined me and made me nothing.
“I know who I am, Liam-a lowlife omega; you don’t have to remind me.” I replied with irritation, yet there was a flicker of determination in my eyes. “But sometimes, we have to challenge the boundaries fate sets for us. And if it means saving those children, I’ll find a way to get Luna’s blood, even if I have to face the moon goddess herself.”
However, I felt a pang of uncertainty at my words. How could I obtain Luna’s blood when I was no longer one? The realisation hit me like a cold breeze, stirring doubts within me. As I pondered, a subtle resolve took hold. I couldn’t change my status, but it wouldn’t hurt to try because I knew no one else would be willing to help.
With a determined glint in my eyes, I looked at Liam and said, “If I was once your mate, it means I was born to be a Luna, and nothing can change that, and also if Damian, who is a powerful alpha, is also my second Ch-” I paused my statement as Liam swiftly looked up to me.
“What are you talking about? What does Damian have to do with this?” He asked, looking at me suspiciously as he rubbed the back of his head in confusion.
“Nothing; I just need your blood, that’s all.” I rolled my eyes at him impatiently. My connection with Daiman was not his business, and he doesn’t need to know.
If Damian was also my second chance mate, it means I would automatically become his Luna once I accepted his proposal, and my status would change. That would mean there was a chance of Luna’s blood flowing through me.
“Still, I can’t do what you ask. I can call on any of my alpha friends to be of help, but I can’t,” he muttered.
His blabbing and nagging were increasing my blood pressure. I could feel my anger coming back and boiling over as I had enough of his nonsense, and I couldn’t have more patience as Liam was still reluctant. My eyes quickly surveyed the whole place, and I noticed some new syringes nearby.
Unable to contain my frustration, I quickly grabbed one, tearing it open without thinking, and forcefully injected Liam by the side of his arm, taking him unaware.
He hissed in pain; his blood was gushing out, but I didn’t care, knowing he would heal in less than a minute, and then I proceeded to inject myself with another syringe.
I was bleeding, but I didn’t mind, while he, on the other hand, looked speechless in a state of shock because obviously he wasn’t expecting me to react this way.
Before he could say anything, I mixed our blood on a metal plate, and I hurried to one of the children, pouring it into her mouth before Liam could stop me, desperate to give them the chance they needed.
With that impulsive act, I had hoped to shock Liam into understanding the urgency of the situation and the sacrifice required to save those innocent lives despite our past differences.
I wasn’t sure if I had done it the right way by pouring it into the little girl’s mouth, as the book didn’t give me further information on how to go about it, so I could only anxiously watch the child and feel the room tense with silence.
Through a side glance, I saw Liam walk to stand by my side, saying nothing as doubt started to creep in, and just when I was about to give up hope, a miraculous change occurred.
The pox on the child I had given blood to vanished before my eyes. A wave of relief washed over me as the girl stood up, looking healthy, and began jumping, testing her agility.
Joy and happiness replaced my uncertainty, and I couldn’t help but smile as the realisation of the impact of my impulsive act sank in. My blood worked. I still had Luna’s blood flowing through me, and this might be as a result of being Damian’s mate.
Overwhelmed with happiness, I couldn’t contain my joy. I jumped with exuberance, and in a spontaneous burst, I hugged Liam tightly, who froze on the spot, but I didn’t care. Soon, his happiness mirrored mine, and in that moment, it was clear that the impulsive decision had paid off.
“See? I told you.” I grinned, my excitement contagious.
“We can make a difference. Now, let’s not waste any more time.” Liam said it too eagerly, and with a newfound determination, we mixed more of our blood together, knowing that each drop could be a lifeline for the children fighting for survival.
In a few minutes, all the children lying down on the bed were jumping and playing around, making the room echo with the sound of their chatter. Their laughter filled the air like the sweet melody of innocence.
I could see the happiness in their eyes, and I could wait to see Madam Nelly’s reaction and the look on her face when she saw them playing. I bet she would like me after this.
“Thank you very much, mam, for saving me. You are an angel.” A big boy with chestnut brown hair said, looking at me with puppy eyes.
Maybe I was an angel. Luna angel.
“You are welcome, sweet child.”
As I patted the little boy’s hair, a gesture of comfort and care, the first girl I had healed approached, presenting me with a sweet.
Just as I was about to collect the sweet, the little girl paused and turned her gaze towards Liam, her innocent eyes narrowing with curiosity.
“Angel, is this your mate?”
I stood for a while, finding myself rendered momentarily speechless, unable to form words, while Liam also looked at me, seeming lost in words.
As I prepared to answer her innocent inquiry, a familiar, rough voice cut through the air, causing my heart to skip a beat. Damian’s voice, always possessing the ability to stir butterflies in my belly, resonated with a mixture of acknowledgment and challenge.
“Congratulations, Ruby. You did it just like I knew you could. But I am disappointed that you didn’t come to me for help but rather asked him.” Damian’s presence loomed as he stood by the door, his eyes carrying a dark intensity, showing his wolf was at the surface and didn’t like my interaction with Liam.
Did he see me hug Liam?
Fuck.
How long had he been standing there?
