Ruby
“How dare you mutt! Do you know who I am? How dare you treat me like this?” Lilith’s yelled. Her enraged scream pierced the air as she glared at me, hardly demanding release from the inexplicable force that held her captive.
I stood frozen, and my eyes widened in shock as I watched her, unable to control her own body. There’s no way I could be the one actually doing this.
Deep down, I knew I was weak and vulnerable, and fear swept over me, unable to comprehend or control the newfound power that bound her.
My heart was pounding in my chest as confusion set in to consume me. If I had this power, then where had it been in me all this time?
I had so many questions swimming through my head, and as Lilith’s red eyes bore into mine with a mixture of anger and desperation flickering across her face, I knew I had to figure out how to stop it.
But how? When it wasn’t like I was expecting this sort of miracle that would come with a manual of its operation?
“Don’t make me repeat myself. Let me go this instant, you pathetic omega! Release me!”
“I… I don’t know how. What’s happening?” I stammered, slowly losing my confidence. I was getting scared at the fact that I could also potentially hurt my son if I couldn’t control myself.
The room seemed to shrink as tension thickened the air, and I gazed sharply at everyone to see them confused and bewildered.
Lilith kept attempting to break free, but the more she tried, the more the invisible grip that held her firm intensified.
I felt a surge of conflicting emotions: fear of the unknown, astonishment at the unexpected power, and a subtle satisfaction that, for once, fate seemed to be turning in my favour.
Yet, amidst the chaos, I couldn’t shake the unsettling feeling that I might stumble upon something far more significant than just a momentary advantage over Lilith, which might complicate my life in the future.
“You all want a reward, right?” Lilith yelled, her voice tinged with panic, and cried out to the men.
Her eyes darted around the room as her body remained unmovable, a stark contrast to the fear that consumed the men.
As the tension escalated, Lilith’s plea continued: “I want you all to go to her. I want you all to arrest her for using dark magic on your Luna, and I will make you all rich!” She screamed, her voice echoing in the room, and her suspended hands darkened with black veins.
Fear consumed the men’s eyes as they turned to look at me with trembling bodies while I smirked, proudly enjoying the show.
“Why aren’t you moving? I command you. I’m your Luna, and it’s your duty for you to protect me with your life.” She yelled harder when she noticed the frozen state of the men. They were all too scared to fight me.
“Daniel, please make her let me go. I promise, I won’t cause any trouble. I won’t take any revenge,” Lilith pleaded, desperation evident in her voice as the dark veins spread to her neck.
Her eyes shifted between me and Daniel, the beta, who observed the unfolding situation with a furrowed brow.
“Ruby, this doesn’t have to go any further. Release Lilith, and we can find an amicable solution to this. I know you were accused wrongly, and you will never hurt a little child.” Daniel urged, attempting to maintain a semblance of control.
Lilith, seizing the opportunity, threatened, “You have no idea what misery I can bring to your life if you don’t release me, Ruby. This is your last chance to avoid a fate worse than death.”
I scoffed at her boldness. Wasn’t she begging me a second ago?
“Well, I don’t know how to undo this, Lilith. I’m afraid you might remain like that forever. Who knows if the moon goddess is finally punishing you for all your crimes?”
“And for you all, when will you start confessing the truth, or do you want to switch positions with your Luna?” I threatened, and they rushed to my feet, kneeling.
“Please forgive us. We didn’t know you were this powerful. Please let us go, and we promise not to stand in your way again,” I begged, and I almost chuckled as I saw the once confident, rude man whose name was Ben and the woman dressed in black rolling on the floor like pathetic little kids.
I turned briefly to gaze at Daniel, who gave me a pleading look. I could feel the tension in the room thicken as the stakes rose, and the air became charged with the unpredictable dynamics of power and vengeance that were taking place as they all awaited my next move, which was still unknown to me.
Even though I didn’t want to free Lilith, I knew I had to do it if I wanted to ensure Alex’s safety, especially in my absence. With that thought in mind, I took a deep breath, trying to control my emotions and let go of my anger in order to free Lilith, but nothing was working. I decided to close my eyes in meditation for better concentration when I felt a formidable presence enter the room with an aura so powerful that it sent shivers down my spine.
Liam? Fuck.
How could I concentrate now? The aura was so powerful that only an alpha could possess it.
When did Liam become so powerful?
The funny part was that my wolf, which had been locked away all these years, stirred within me an unfamiliar sensation of recognition and connection.
“What is happening here?” he demanded, his tone cutting through the chaos. That wasn’t Liam’s voice, and his scent was odd yet comforting and sweet.
“Don’t make me repeat myself. Where is she?”
His voice was commanding, rough, and authoritative; it resonated through the air so much that it made Lilith, who had been suspended in the air, drop to the ground.
How did he manage to set her free from my hold?
“Mate,” my wolf howled, and if not for the seriousness of the situation and the fact that I hadn’t heard from her for such a long time, I would have laughed at the word she had said.
How could she forget that Liam was no longer our mate? Our connection had been severed, yet right now, he emitted an odd and unfamiliar scent that stirred my wolf for an unexplainable reason.
I sensed the imposing figure walking deeper into the room. Despite maintaining a considerable distance, his presence sent goosebumps across my skin and made the hair at the back of my neck stand.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience, Alpha. Please forgive us for our carelessness,” Daniel said with fears in his eyes, and the little girl who had been held captive by the men jumped up from the ground and ran towards him, joy lighting up her face.
“Daddy!”
My heart skipped a beat as the word echoed in the room. The alpha was her father? He had a daughter?
“Mate,” my wolf whimpered, begging for attention, and in that moment, I realised the undeniable truth: the man who had just walked in was my mate-a second chance, the one my wolf had been yearning for since the day Liam ripped out our hearts-and my entire world seemed to shift on its axis.
“Little bird,” he cooed, causing a mountain of butterflies to erupt in my tummy.
His voice had a magnetic quality, and I found myself both awed and unnerved by its effect.
“Daddy, take me out of here. I’m scared,” the little girl whimpered, and the last thing I heard was the door closing behind me, leaving me with millions of questions and, most importantly, feeling rejected at the fact that he never acknowledged me.
