Logan’s eyes searched mine, his expression shifting into something darker, more intense. His thumb traced the curve of my cheek, his touch sending shivers down my spine.
“Why are you so fucking beautiful?” he murmured, his voice low, almost a growl. The words sent a jolt through me, but before I could process them, his lips twisted into a smirk-not the playful one I was used to, but something sharper, more dangerous.
His hand slid from my cheek to the back of my neck, pulling me just a fraction closer. “You have no idea what you do to me,” he said, his tone dropping to something maliciously smooth. “It’s maddening. Sometimes I want to do things to you, Audrey-things I probably shouldn’t even say out loud.”
My breath hitched at his words, the intensity in his gaze making it impossible to look away. The room felt smaller, the air between us electric and suffocating all at once.
“Logan…” I started, my voice barely audible, but he cut me off with a low chuckle.
“See?” he said, tilting his head slightly, his hand still firm against my neck. “Even now, you’re looking at me like that. Like you don’t know whether to run or stay and find out what happens next.”
I swallowed hard, my pulse racing. “And what happens next?” I asked, surprising myself with the boldness of the question.
His smirk deepened, but there was something raw beneath it now, something primal. “That depends on you,” he said softly, his tone laced with a challenge. “Say the word, and I’ll stop. But if you don’t…”
I could feel the heat radiating from him, his words wrapping around me like a net I couldn’t escape from-or didn’t want to. My heart thundered in my chest, the weight of the moment pressing down on me as his hand tightened ever so slightly on the back of my neck.
I opened my mouth to say something, but the words didn’t come. Instead, I reached up, my fingers brushing against his chest. His breath hitched at the contact, and I felt a spark of power in that small reaction, as if I had finally gained some footing in the charged atmosphere between us.
Logan’s eyes darkened, the blue of them almost swallowed by his pupils. “Careful, Audrey,” he said, his voice rough, like he was barely holding something back. “You’re playing with fire.”
“Maybe I like the heat,” I said, surprising myself with the honesty in my voice.
For a moment, he just stared at me, his gaze boring into mine as if trying to unravel every thought I’d ever had. Then, with a low growl, he closed the space between us, his lips crashing against mine.
Logan’s lips were fierce against mine, all-consuming and unapologetic, like he’d been holding back a storm that finally broke free. My breath hitched as his hands slid to my waist, gripping me firmly before he leaned back slightly, his gaze burning into mine with an intensity that made my knees feel like jelly.
Without a word, he stood, his hands finding my thighs as he effortlessly lifted me off the ground. A surprised gasp escaped my lips, but he silenced it with another kiss, deeper and rougher this time, as if he couldn’t get enough.
My arms wrapped instinctively around his neck, and my legs locked around his waist as he carried me through the cabin. The world around us blurred, the only thing grounding me being the feel of his body pressed against mine, the raw heat between us.
When we reached his room, Logan kicked the door open without breaking the kiss, his movements controlled yet desperate. He stepped inside, shutting the door behind him with his foot, and then carried me to the bed.
Lowering me onto the mattress, his hands never left my body. His lips trailed from my mouth to my jawline, then down the curve of my neck, leaving a trail of fire in their wake.
“You’re going to be the death of me,” he muttered against my skin, his voice rough and full of want.
I opened my mouth to reply, but before I could, his lips claimed mine again, his body pressing me down into the bed. Everything else faded away-the world outside, the dangers lurking in the forest, even the sound of my own rapid heartbeat. All that mattered in that moment was him.
