Sienna and Callie descended the mountain together. At the intersection, a black car was waiting. The driver got out, opened the door, and glanced at Callie. “Madam, please.”
Sienna looked at Callie, a questioning expression on her face.
Callie smiled and shook her head. “I have a friend coming to pick me up. See you next time, Auntie.”
Sienna nodded and got into the car with the driver. The car quickly drove away. The driver couldn’t help but ask, “Madam, that lady just now…”
Her smile faded as soon as she got into the car. Her lips pressed together in a way that commanded respect without anger. “A fellow worshipper from the temple, just giving her a lift.”
The driver understood and kept quiet.
Callie stood there, thinking about the recent events. She found it a bit strange; Sienna’s family seemed quite well-off.
As she was lost in thought, a black SUV sped towards her and stopped by her side. The window rolled down, and a woman wearing sunglasses whistled at her. “Hey beautiful, need a ride? It’s free.”
Callie couldn’t help but laugh and got into the passenger seat. “Do you flirt with men like this too?”
Regan took off her sunglasses and raised an eyebrow. “At my peak, I could have ten male models in one night, all head over heels for me.”
Callie burst into laughter; Regan was good at joking as ever.
After the laughter died down, Regan drove towards the city. She finally turned serious and glanced at Callie, a bit cautiously. “Why didn’t you tell me you were at Ipdite Temple? I thought you had left town.”
Callie frowned, not understanding. “Why would I leave town?”
Regan tried to keep her tone calm. “Nelson couldn’t find you. The information he got was that you went to Osegow.”
It seemed to be a misunderstanding. Callie fell silent.
“He wanted to go look for you, but I stopped him.” Regan was even more cautious now. “I felt it was unfair to you and told him everything. He seemed very regretful.”
Callie finally reacted but remained calm. Those matters were nothing more than the car accident and swallowing the pride to find Ahmad.
“Callie, you’re not angry, are you?” Regan noticed that Callie’s demeanor was more serene than before.
“No, he was bound to find out sooner or later. It’s better he knows now.” Callie forced a smile. “Were you in a hurry to get me back because there’s something urgent at the studio?”
“The project from Oconnor Group is nearly complete. We need to plan our next steps. I heard Scott Group took on a city project and is recruiting design teams. I want to give it a try,” Regan said as she drove.
Callie frowned; she didn’t want to get involved with Jaquan’s project. “Forget it, let’s look for other opportunities. Scott Group is complicated; we don’t want to get in over our heads.”
Regan looked at her through the rearview mirror. “Callie, are you concerned about Nelson?”
It was true, but she didn’t trust Scott Group much. Callie thought about it and didn’t know how to explain the intricacies.
“How about this: I’ll make initial contact. If there’s indeed a risk, we’ll back off. Okay?” Regan was unwilling to give up; she was ambitious and daring.
Thinking of Regan’s help in the past, Callie didn’t refuse any further and decided to let her proceed.
Regan asked, “Where are you headed?”
Callie knew what she meant. After a brief silence, she gave an address. “I’m going to see Reuben; he’s worried about me.”
Nelson is worried about you too. Regan paused but didn’t say it out loud, nor did she tell Callie that he had been searching for her all along.
