Confirmation
**Lucas’ POV**
As I proceeded down the stairs towards the living room, the maids who had been lying around quickly rushed to get themselves busy upon hearing my approaching footsteps. I wasn’t surprised to see such behavior from them, but that was definitely something I would handle much later.
“Mortica,” I called out, and a swift response came from inside the kitchen.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Come here right now.” She rushed out of the kitchen, and I looked up to see fear written all over her.
“Before I begin, I want to ask, when were you given the instruction to prepare for a visit from Veronica and her family? I wasn’t aware of such plans.”
“Yes, Alpha. Simon was the one who instructed us to get it all done.”
“Simon?”
“Yes, sir.” I stood quietly for a while, trying to understand why in the world Simon would call for dinner with the Norways even before letting me know of it. I thought hard, but I just couldn’t make sense of the whole thing. We always shared everything together and would never make any decisions or carry out any plans without the knowledge and approval of each other.
“Well, alright then, thank you. Now, what I want you to do for me is to get me all the maids that were involved in the fight right now.”
“Oh, Alpha, it wasn’t really their fault. Ashley…”
“Do I really have to repeat myself, or do you actually value your job here and will just do what I have ordered you to do?”
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I apologize for that.”
“Good, so get me each and every one of them, now.”
“Yes, Alpha.” She bowed respectfully and quickly made her way back to locate the maids I had requested. I went to the living room to sit, and while I waited, I took out my phone to call Simon as I needed to get more clarity from no one else but him on the whole thing. His line kept ringing, but there was just no response from his end.
“Oh my goodness, Simon, pick up the damn phone,” I said through gritted teeth as I decided to try calling one more time. After trying a couple of times and still not getting a response from him, I decided to try mind linking with him. He had mentioned that he would be visiting a friend in a nearby town, but I didn’t ask which of the towns he was talking about to know if distance could affect us mind linking or something.
“Come on, please work,” I said after a few minutes of trying and not getting any connection yet. After a while, the mind link connected, and the first thing I heard from his end was whining.
“Oh my gosh, can you not live without me for just a few hours?”
“Oh, please. I’m pretty sure you know I’m not the one who always wants to be around you. It’s the other way around, and we both know that.”
“Coming from someone who has called me almost ten times and out of desperation, proceeded to mind link with me.”
“Spare me all that. If it wasn’t important, I wouldn’t go through all this trouble, trust me.” Simon chuckled lightly, and I rolled my eyes at it.
“Oh, okay, okay, so what’s the matter? Hope there isn’t a problem.”
“Well, there is a problem, and the problem is that you set up a dinner meeting with the Norways, and I’m only finding out from the maids who were cleaning and getting everything ready.”
“Oh yes, my bad!”
“Really?”
“I’m sorry, bro, I was going to tell you, really.”
“Oh wow, how nice. When? When was that going to happen, because you could have told me yesterday or better still this morning.”
“Well, I would have told you yesterday, but you were too busy screwing that slave of ours.” I rolled my eyes at him, knowing fully well that he was definitely going to bring Ashley up in the whole thing.
“You know, I still don’t understand why you are doing this.”
“Doing what?”
“I mean, come on, why would you want us to be with a dirty slave when we have Veronica?”
“But you know it’s not her fault her pack got destroyed by Klaus.”
“Regardless, she’s unfit for us, and I would never accept her, never!”
“Whatever. So why didn’t you tell me this morning then? We were together in the fields before you left, right?”
“Yeah, sorry about that. I guess it just slipped my mind.” Mortica walked in with about six other maids behind her, and so I rushed to end the mind link with Simon.
“Oh okay, I gotta go now. I have something to handle. Bye.” I didn’t wait for Simon to respond before ending the mind link. I stood up from where I was seated to face each and every one of them, and they all had their heads bowed down.
“So, you all thought it was okay for you to engage in a fight in my house?” No one responded; they all had their heads still bowed, and so I continued.
“For as many of you that have worked here for a while, you should know that fighting is not something my brother and I condone in this house. If I’m not mistaken, there is no one here that has spent less than six months in this house, so there is no excuse for the nonsense that happened here this morning.”
“We are very sorry, Alpha,” they all chorused, and I frowned.
“That’s not what I want to hear. Be sorry for yourselves because you all will be punished whether you like it or not. Ashley is currently serving her punishment, and so nobody is to go up to her room, which I have locked from the outside. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Good. Now the punishment for you all is that you are to clean the waste and rubbish that the horses make at the pack’s zoo. Also, Mortica,” I called out, and she immediately came out from behind.
“I want you to make sure that they all do not get food for the next 24 hours as well. Am I clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Greetings, Alpha,” I heard Damien’s voice from behind, and I turned to face him.
“Oh, Damien, do you want to see me?”
“Yes, please.”
“Alright then, let’s go.” After checking to confirm whether I had my phone with me, I then made my way past the horrified-looking maids who had still not fully recovered from the punishment I had ordered for them.
“Let’s go into my study room,” I said to Damien as we both made our way out of the living room. I had no idea what he probably came to discuss with me, but as my beta wolf, I knew whatever he had to say was going to be of help to me.
We got into the study room, and I offered him a seat in front of my desk while I got seated in mine.
“Alright, Damien, you said you wanted to see me, so here I am. What’s up?”
“Yes, I’ll just go straight to the point. The thing is that I actually wanted to confirm something that’s been going around the pack for days now.”
“And what might that be?”
“There is a speculation going around that you and Alpha Simon are currently going through a conflict regarding a slave claiming to be your mate,” I furrowed my brows, thinking about what the rumors had been like amongst the pack members.
“Everyone had thought that Princess Veronica was the fated mate for both of you, so hearing that there’s another person in the picture is just bringing up so much controversy.”
“Okay, so what exactly are you pushing this to?”
“I just wanted to confirm first from you what is really going on.” I sighed and relaxed back in the seat, looking at Damien’s attentive face.
“Well, they’re not entirely wrong on the matter, but Simon and I are definitely not in some sort of conflict, or how exactly are they saying it again? The thing is, even I don’t understand how it’s possible that Veronica was set out to be our mate when we obviously didn’t have our wolves connecting during the last mating season. However, when Ashley came alongside the other slaves brought from Klaus’ pack, there was an undeniable shift in the atmosphere. I’m not too sure about Simon, and I’m speaking for myself when I say that my wolf definitely called out to her. Since Simon and I are destined to have the same mate, I’m guessing he also felt it but just chose to deny the confirmation mainly because he has already grown to be fond of Veronica now.”
“So, what you are saying is that Ashley is truly your mate?”
“Yes.”
“So what is going to happen now? Alpha Simon doesn’t seem to agree with that. In fact, it doesn’t look like he’s going to accept her anytime soon.”
“That’s the thing. I do not know what to do about that, but I know that the mating season would definitely clear all the doubt he has towards her.”
“Are you sure about that, Alpha?”
“Absolutely! Do you know how strong the mating bond is? He wouldn’t be able to resist her for sure.”
“So what about Veronica?”
“Well, I can’t say for sure at this point because I don’t know how she might be feeling about the whole thing, but speaking of Veronica, her family will be visiting us tonight.”
“What? I thought you weren’t going to accept her as your mate.”
“Oh no, I wasn’t the one who invited her. In fact, I didn’t even know she was going to be coming over. Simon hadn’t told me before inviting her and her family over for dinner, and can you imagine that he didn’t even tell me afterward as well? I found out for myself from the maids today, and at this point, there’s nothing I can do to stop them from coming.”
“Oh, okay then. I just thought to come see you and get the confirmation to all these things so that I can easily address them
