Lilith
And you will thank me later.
Anonymous.
The creepy hand of fear crawled all over my body as I read through the lines of the message.
My skin prickled with horror, and chills ran down my spine.
I glanced backwards, running towards the window to see the sender, but no one came into view.
A bullet of panic gushed up my throat as my stomach flipped multiple times.
Fear enveloped my body, making me a trembling mess.
My phone dropped carelessly on the bed, and I peeked out of the window, staring into the blanket of the night.
Someone must have sent this message. Someone who was aware of the entanglement between Alpha Casper and I.
But who could it be?
My brain was like a giant maze, making it hard for me to think.
I was certain the sender must be here somewhere.
But what baffled me was how he knew about us and the estate. The estate was in the middle of nowhere, and the only people that visited were Raphael and the doctor.
It was too late to try to figure out the culprit, and I was sure he must have eavesdropped on our conversation for sending the right message at the right time.
Horror crept through me when I began to imagine being spied on by the person.
Fuck!
Alpha Casper was right. My life was in danger.
Activating the wristwatch, I switched it on, and a small red light blinked before disappearing, indicating that the tracker was active.
Alpha Casper was smart for getting me this watch.
I rushed out of my room, using the torch light from my phone to check any sudden movement, but there was none. After waiting and parading the estate for almost an hour, I retired to my room, frightened and fatigued.
An idea popped into my head, and I wanted to inform Alpha Casper, but then, I waved the idea off. I didn’t want to bother him, knowing how he takes my safety paramount.
I leaned against the wall, unlocking my phone as I tried to reply to the sender.
Maybe I will get a hint of who the person was.
Who are you? Why don’t you come out of your hiding, coward!
I let out a tensed breath, glancing behind me before tucking my hair behind my ear.
Licking my lips nervously, I clicked on the icon, but the message won’t send. Turned out he was the only one that could send messages.
Motherfucker!
My heart raced in fear, and I left my room, unable to sleep.
The image of me being strangled by the stranger kept replaying in my head.
“Hey, why are you sneaking out of your room like a thief?”
I recognized the sound of Anna’s voice. Her sarcasm lightened my mood a bit, but it wasn’t enough to erase the paranoia that consumed me.
The sound of the switch flickered, and light flooded the room.
I almost jumped when she snaked her hands to meet mine and sneered.
“Why are you so tense?” she asked.
“I am not tense. And I was not sneaking out like a thief. I just wanted to spend the night in your room.”
“Why?” she asked, craning her head as her brows arched.
“I got terrified by…” I halted, biting my tongue as my imagination began to grow wild.
No one could be trusted aside from Alpha Casper, I, and maybe Raphael.
An uneasy feeling settled in my gut, and a cold breeze found its way into my skin.
“… boredom,” I completed, swallowing nervously as my eyes were fixed on her face, observing any sudden movement.
“You were terrified by boredom?” she asked, her voice laced with disbelief. “Why do I get this feeling that you are troubled and those were not the exact words you wanted to say?”
Her accusatory eyes hit me, but I masked my expression.
I wouldn’t let her see through me.
“You are just overthinking, Anna. Besides, I think I’ve gotten the perfect idea that interests me.” I tried to sound convincing, hoping it was enough.
Sometimes, Anna could be a pain in the ass like Raphael. Their questions were unending.
“Hmm.” She went, shooting me with an unsatisfied look.
I was about to walk past her when it hit me.
What if Anna was the sender?
It made sense because she never left the estate, and she was the only one that could hear my conversation with the Alpha.
What if she eavesdropped?
The sender wasn’t seen, and all fingers pointed to Anna. Plus, she was snooping around during the time the message got delivered on my phone.
She was the only one capable of sending this message at the accurate time, especially after Alpha Casper professed his love to me.
What was I even thinking about sleeping in her room?!
What if she does something to me?
But Anna was a friend.
I couldn’t get a hang of my thoughts as they messed with me.
But the probability of Anna being the person behind those messages was above average.
“I’m sleepy,” I announced, faking a yawn before brushing past her.
“This is new.” Her voice rang as she grabbed my arm, stopping me in the process.
“What?”
“The watch. Don’t tell me you’ve received your salary because that is the only way you can afford this.”
She eyed the watch, making me cringe a bit.
I let out a nervous laughter, sliding my hand behind my back to hide the watch. I didn’t want her to know it had a tracker.
It was hard trusting her.
“Wait, you already got your salary? But…”
It was too late to lie, and I stayed quiet, watching her face contort into a mixture of surprise and curiosity.
“That explains it. The Alpha has been favouring you, and I also notice a bit of closeness between the both of you. The other day, Raphael stormed out angrily. He had a fight with the Alpha because of you, but I couldn’t find you, so I guess you were with him on the last floor.”
“What? I have no idea what you are saying. The Alpha treats his staff equally.” I protested, masking my feelings.
“You’ve not been working for days. Does that count as equality?” she retorted. Jealousy was entangled in her voice.
“Don’t talk like this. You know what happened to my arm,” I replied, furrowing my brows as my stomach started to knot in fear.
Her strange behavior confirmed my thoughts, but I didn’t want to believe Anna was the sender.
I saw her as a harmless friend.
She wouldn’t do anything to hurt me, right?
“Really?” she scoffed, rolling her eyes.
The buzz from her phone caught her attention, and she angrily walked out of my presence.
My heart sank into a bottomless abyss of hurt as I watched her slam the door of her room.
I would keep my eyes on her until she is caught red-handed.
With shaky steps, I walked into the last floor.
Knocking the door softly, I waited for the response.
The sound of footsteps was heard, and the door opened to reveal Alpha Casper.
A smile crept on his face, and a golden ring formed in his eyes.
Fear gripped me when I sensed myself being watched by his wolf.
“I thought you wanted to spend the night in your old room.”
“I changed my mind.” I returned the smile, chewing on my bottom lip.
My grip tightened on my sides as I stared at him shyly, not knowing what else to do.
“And I also changed my mind about sleeping in that room. Turns out I’m not done with it, so you will have to pass the night with me.” A naughty smirk crossed his face as his eyes released a soft glow.
It seemed like his wolf was struggling to take over, but he was withholding it.
He opened the door wider, and I strode in before sitting on the edge of the bed.
He was about to speak when his phone rang, distracting him.
I rolled my eyes when Raphael’s name flashed boldly across the screen.
It didn’t take long before a message dropped on my phone. I unlocked it with my fingerprint, swiping to read it when a scream tore off my throat.
We know where you live. You can’t be protected for long!
